Creation and operation

The Pestovskoe reservoir is part of a grandiose project of the 1930s. last century, for the construction of the Moscow Canal, which was intended to connect the Moscow and Volga rivers for the uninterrupted supply of drinking water to the capital. The actual creation of the reservoir was only a minor part of the overall plan, and is very remotely related to the canal itself. All that was required in this direction was to build a hydroelectric complex on the Vyaz River, floating its water into one of the artificial reservoirs in the Pushkinsky district. The main work here was carried out from 1935 to 1937. and included the construction of a dam extending over 700 m, catchment structures and a bottom drainage to regulate the volume.

Engineers submitted construction reports several months before the Canal was put into operation, in which the Pestovskaya Dam and the future reservoir were listed as “Object No. 23.” The filling took place in parallel with other objects of Kosmet in 1937, which completely transformed the appearance of the Moscow region. As for the creation of the Pestovsky reservoir itself, it also changed the water balance of the region; due to its appearance, the Ucha River lost one of its most important tributaries. The connection with the Moscow Canal ran through a network of other reservoirs located to the south, which, among other things, also became a transport route. So, starting in 1962, passenger traffic was established between Moscow and remote areas to the north by water.

Uchinskoye Reservoir: fishing

The reservoir and its banks are considered a strict water protection zone. It appeared in 1937 as a result of the construction of the large Akulovsky hydroelectric complex. Officially, approaching its water surface less than 200 m is strictly prohibited, but this rule is often violated. In particular, throughout the year there are many who, despite all the warnings, strive to get to the Uchinskoye Reservoir. The fishing there, they say, is simply excellent. This reservoir is home to large numbers of pike perch, perch, pike and bream. You can also catch crucian carp, carp, roach, gudgeon, tench, ide, burbot, catfish and ruffe there. Avid fishermen can spend the night at the “Fisherman’s House”, located between the villages of Rozhdestveno and Dolganikha, where boats are available for rent.

As for beach holidays, despite all the prohibitions, in the summer you can find many swimmers and sunbathers on the northern shore of the reservoir. However, there are no equipped recreation areas there.

Geographical and physical characteristics

The artificial reservoir is connected to the “Moscow Canal” through the Vyaz River, which forms a reservoir, and a number of similar ones. It's all about the oval shape of the reservoir, somewhat narrowed in the upper reaches, in the area of the dam. It stretches from northwest to southeast for a distance of 8.1 km, the average width is almost equal throughout its entire length from 1.5 to 2 km. Its water area is 11.6 km2, and its total volume can exceed 50,000,000 m3. The depths of the Pestovsky reservoir are heterogeneous; in the navigable part they vary from 5 to 8 m, but in some sections they exceed 10 m; in the Tishkovsky Bay, for example, they reach 14-18 m.

Natural and man-made features

Along the banks of the artificial reservoir there are numerous settlements, including: Dolginukha, Mikhalevo, Rumyantsevo and Pestovo, which gave it its name. The latter is one of the elite cottage villages located near the reservoir, some of them have promising and quite sonorous names - Cape Verde, Cote d'Azur. In addition to them, there are a dozen similar dacha complexes, which indicates the importance of these places, as well as the high cost of land plots. Along the reservoir, on both banks, there are 2 landscaped forest park areas: Marfinskaya and Protasovskaya, approaching the water itself.

There are 8 berths on the reservoir, where regular passenger flights have been carried out on high-speed boats of the “Raketa” type from the capital’s river station for half a century. Now these legendary ships are gradually becoming history, and with them the Pestovsky berths are becoming a thing of the past, at least for passenger transport. There is no longer any regular service as such, only half are functioning as usual, some berths, like Tishkovo, are closed completely, others are used exclusively for cruise stops. Of the latter, it is especially worth highlighting “Khvoyny Bor” - not only is it not in danger of closure, but they also predict a great future, thanks to the large-scale construction that has begun here.

Conditions for recreation

But this is more than enough here; the Pestovskoye Reservoir has become a popular vacation spot for Muscovites and residents of the entire Moscow region, and therefore promising for investment.
