What bait does carp bite best on?

Catching carp with bread

Among all carp baits, bread takes an honorable first place.
It is difficult to find another attachment with such versatile applications. They fish with bread from the surface, from the bottom and in the middle layers of water. It holds firmly on the hook and withstands casting well, but once in the water it quickly gets wet, becoming very soft and especially attractive to carp. Most often, a piece of bread with a crust, known as “bread crust” or simply “crust”, is used as bait. . Such a crust, the size of a matchbox or slightly smaller, is cut with a sharp knife from a loaf of white or gray bread, fresh if possible.

There are many types of bread, but those that are suitable for making a crust are quite few, since the crust must be elastic, not too hard and not crumbly. Figure 1a shows how best to place the crust on the hook. In order not to waste time on the pond, we prefer to cut the crusts at home and take them with us fishing in a plastic bag. If you drop some anise oil or another fragrant agent there, then along the way the bread will have time to be thoroughly saturated with its smell. You can prepare the crusts for future use. Try stringing the sliced rinds onto a knitting needle and placing them in the oven for a quarter of an hour at about 200°C.

When the resulting crackers have cooled, remove them from the knitting needle - here you have crusts for long-term storage, with ready-made holes for the hook. In water, dry crusts quickly soak and become soft, but are still inferior to fresh ones. Floating like a cork, a bread crust is an excellent bait for fishing from the surface. At the same time, with the help of sinkers, it can be lowered into the middle layers of water or to the bottom. Of course, it is first necessary to establish what kind of weight is required to compensate for the buoyancy of the crust and make it sink slowly. However, when fishing from the bottom, we prefer the crumb of freshly baked white bread (old bread is too dry and crumbles). Having placed a piece of crumb the size of a walnut on the hook, just taken out of the loaf, we squeeze it from the sides with our palms so that it can better withstand the upcoming cast.

In water, the crumb, if it was not compressed too much, swells to its original size, but, unlike dough, does not dissolve. This ephemeral, weightless bait is instantly absorbed by the carp and does not in any way interfere with hooking. On the contrary, carp that take the crumb very often hook themselves. Some experts make sure that the tip of the hook is not covered when baiting. Then even those carps that take a freshly thrown bait that has not yet had time to properly soak will be hooked.

A significant disadvantage of bread crusts and pieces of crumb is that they have to be renewed very often on the hook, because small fish tend to fiddle with them until they knock them off and eat them. An inventive fisherman will find a way out of the situation here too. It is enough to tie the bread crosswise with thin darning threads (preferably light) or wrap it in a thin hair net so that its resistance to attacks from uninvited guests increases several times (Fig. 1 b). The hook is stuck into the bread under the crosshairs of the threads. When the bread swells, neither the threads nor the hook will be visible, so there is no fear of scaring the carp with the threads.

The other option is only suitable for crusts. Try cutting long, narrow strips of crust, about 10 x 1.5 cm, from a fresh loaf and rolling them into rolls. These unique rolls hold very tightly on the hook, but they have to be threaded using a special needle (Fig. 1c).

Finally, one last tip:

The crumb of unbaked white bread, taken out of the oven 15–20 minutes ahead of schedule, stays on the hook somewhat better than the crumb of ordinary bread. Of course, not every carp fisherman can regularly have unbaked bread at his disposal: you need to either bake it yourself or have a baker you know. Regular bread can be made somewhat more elastic by placing it in a plastic bag or wrapping it in a damp cloth, but it will still be worse than unbaked bread.

Tackle for catching carp on bread

To catch carp with bread, they mainly use:

  • a regular telescopic fishing rod with a float;
  • bottom tackle;
  • feeder rod.

For float structures, it is preferable to use a rod with a rigid action.

It can withstand maximum loads and you will not have any problems when catching large fish. Please pay attention to the following nuances:

  1. You can use four, five or six meter rods equipped with a spinning reel with a friction clutch.
  2. The fishing line is selected with medium diameters, which could withstand from 5 to 12 kg. It is preferable for the main thread to have a cross-section of 0.25-0.4 mm. The color scheme is selected based on the reservoir where the fishing will take place. You can use braided fishing line, as well as monofilament.
  3. It is better to take a float that is not brightly colored, but the tip should be intensely colored so that it can be easily seen from a great distance.
  4. Hooks must be selected with a short shank, number 8-10. To catch small carp you can use number 6.
  5. The sinker is selected based on the mass of the float. It is better to use pellets, but in some cases a sliding sinker will also work.
  6. At the end of the main line there is a swivel to which the leash is attached.

When fishing with a donke and a feeder, they use basically the same diameter of fishing line as described above. Leashes can be attached above the sinker. Various feeders are mainly used as cargo. You can use sliding food containers like a “spring”.

The main advantage of bottom gear is long-distance casting. In this option, your presence is invisible to the shy fish and does not in any way affect the result of the hunt.

When selecting a spinning rod for donk fishing, you should choose one with a medium or soft action.

This will allow you to cast long distances and, when catching a large specimen, calmly handle it without letting it go into snags. Long leashes are mostly used. Regulating long leashes depends on which layer of the reservoir you prefer to search for prey.

Interesting feeder rig for fishing with crust of bread

Feeder equipment for fishing with bread crust. A story about one of the methods of catching fish, brought to life by my friend. We are talking about catching bream on a feeder with simple equipment.

One summer I went to see my friend Petrovich. He's going fishing. He loves it dearly, old man, that's the thing. And he knows how to fish - you can’t take that away from him. We often go out into nature with him. Every time he catches me. And it surprises. This restless man is always trying to improve his gear in order to outwit the fish and get him into the cage.

So this time, I see, he’s playing tricks with the tackle. I asked to explain, and Petrovich told me that he was going to catch bream. In mid-July, the fish happily take plant baits. And bread crust is not the last treat she loves. And, even when full, he tastes it with pleasure.

Catching carp on a crust of bread

Catching carp on a crust of bread is not always possible and not in every body of water where trophy carp are found. In large rivers, reservoirs, ponds and quarries (in any region of Russia), catching carp using this method is an almost impossible dream for a fisherman.

Trophy carp bite on top only on a sunny, hot summer afternoon or around noon, in relatively small reservoirs with a depth of up to 1.5–2.5 meters. Such a reservoir can be a pond the size of a couple of football fields with the prosaic name of a fire pond. For example, there is such a reservoir near the Koptel station, not far from the city of Stary Oskol. For some reason, local fishermen always try to catch large carp here exclusively with donks. Catching carp on a crust of bread obviously does not inspire confidence.

In fact, there are a great many small and relatively shallow bodies of water where such fishing is possible. For example, in the Stavropol region I often fished in an inconspicuous pond near Rashevatka. Here we had to keep both eyes on both a flock of carp and a flock of geese. The domestic geese were also happy with the bread crust...

And in Kuban you find dozens of such ponds. The estuary shallow waters near extensive “carpets” of algae are also suitable for extreme fishing. At first glance, there should be more carp in the center of the estuary. It seems that fish live in a calmer environment away from the coast. In fact, it turns out that in a body of water “without banks,” which is essentially an estuary, the habitat is equal everywhere, because and the depth of the estuary is almost the same everywhere.

And yet, the “carpets” of algae located near the endless wall of coastal reeds are obviously more feeding. Here, the maximum concentration of carp is often observed, especially during the period of growth of young shoots, and the bite is always good when the east wind blows, displacing brackish water from the estuary into the river.

Feeder equipment for fishing with bread crust

He planned to fish on the feeder, but contrary to the usual equipment, he decided to use a sinker feeder that slid freely along the line, which at the end of the tackle rested on a winding ring with a snap hook. On the other hand, four leashes, approximately 15 cm each , with hooks were tied to the winding ring. The carabiner could be easily removed from the ring and the leashes could be threaded through the hole made in the bread crust (a square with a side of 3 cm) . The hooks were stuck into the edges of the nozzle in a circle and sunk into it. That's the whole structure (shown in the picture).

When casting, the bait did not cling to the feeder and lay on the bottom downstream. And when biting, the freely moving feeder did not alarm the fish and did not affect the sensitivity of the quivertype. A bream sucking on a sodden crust, as a rule, was hooked on several hooks at once. He swallowed some, while others, when the fish jerked, caught it on the head in different places. There were almost no gatherings.

A day later I went to see Petrovich. The catch was surprising. I don’t want to divulge how many he caught. Otherwise, God forbid, they will accuse you of poaching.

The friend was not modest: “I could catch more,” he admitted, “but it would be completely against the rules. And why do I need so many fish?”

As he saw me off, he handed me a bag with two decent breams. Like, in the ear of lazy ordinary people. Thank you, friend, it won’t rust after me. I’m also planning to go fishing soon. Or maybe we can go out together. It's more fun together.

Fishing with bread

Fishing with bread does not lose popularity both on rivers and lakes, and both the crumb itself and the crust are used. Experienced fishermen say that it is very important to choose the right bread, since there is no one-size-fits-all, so if they find the bread that the fish appreciate, they immediately try to find out at which bakery it is baked, the shift that produces it, and the time of delivery to the stores. points.

In many regions of the country, bread was and remains the basis for hunting for large linen; the so-called “black bow” works especially well on large silver bream and white bream. To do this, take a piece of fresh crumb and, bending it in half, place it with the bend inward on the hook, and use your fingers to squeeze the crumb. Being in the water for some time, the bait absorbs water, and due to this it increases in size, becoming more tender and “fluffy”.

Some fishermen prefer to squeeze the crumb only with their nails, claiming that this way it is practically not injured, and then the bait remains airy for a long time.

Some fishermen may object, they say, why all these manipulations, because it’s easier and simpler to crush and bait a classic bread dumpling on a hook? But during long fishing experiments, it was proven that large suspicious fish prefer a fluffy, delicate crumb; they are more attracted to it by its shape and aroma

. Therefore, experienced fishermen always try to compress and deform the bread as little as possible - just to keep it on the hook, therefore, for fishing with a “bread bow”, a float rod is more suitable than a feeder.

Bread is often used when casting fishing, when the fisherman often has to re-throw gear and does not require the bait to remain on the hook for a long time. There is also a theory in favor of the “bow”: the less you touch the bread with your fingers, the less foreign odors remain on this attachment, which perfectly absorbs odors that can alert suspicious large fish.

In addition, some bream fishermen have noticed that it is not a ball, dumpling or cube, but a shapeless bread attachment that is least alarming for large and especially large breams.

Often the flesh of the bread is simply pierced with a hook and squeezed with two fingers in the prying area - closer to the sting, in this case the method is called “pinned”. As in the case of the “bow”, the bait swells in the water, becoming similar to a long-abandoned lump of bread, which vacationers use to feed the birds, and also feeds the carp. “On a trailer” they are caught quite successfully, but according to the observations of fishermen, the bread “bow” stays on the hook somewhat better.

Bait Catching carp with bread

Even the most professional fisherman sometimes uses very simple, and sometimes even cheap, baits. One such accessible attachment is the most ordinary bread. Typically, fishermen use the crumb rather than the crust. But there are no restrictions.

A piece of bread can be rolled into a ball and placed on a hook, or secured with a hair mount. This method requires that the bread be close to the hook, and not directly on it. Both the first and second methods require fine work skills. But after a few trainings, everything will go like clockwork. For greater convenience, you can use hooks that have a spiral or spring at their base.

For those who don’t want to spend money in any way, but do everything themselves, there is one way to save. You need to put a simple spring from a ballpoint pen on the hook and secure it there. But since time is money, it’s probably easier to buy a ready-made one. Such a spring will serve as a frame for the bread and it will retain its shape longer. Dry bread crusts or slightly toasted crumb cubes can be used for hair installation. Holes are made in the finished pieces and wire or hair is inserted there. To prevent the wire from cutting the bread, you can first insert small plastic tubes into the holes.

Since bread attracts not only carp, but also other fish, it should be used in places where it is known for sure that carp are found there. Air bubbles on the surface of the water can indicate their location. Or you can go to private rates, where you can do a little fishing for a fee.

There is another way to use bread as bait. The bread crust does not sink, which means this property must be used. Having thrown such bait into a pond, you need to camouflage it with other pieces of bread crust. Thus, even the most careful carp will not be able to distinguish which is a simple piece and which is with a hook. To cast bait over a long distance, you can use a slingshot. But in order to fish with crumb and crust, it is not necessary to have a spinning rod; you can use a simple float rod.

Like all attachments, bread also has a number of disadvantages. For example, due to the fact that it is very soft, it cannot be used for a long time. After an hour or two it blurs. Another disadvantage is that bread contains very few substances that fish need. But this is quite fixable. Make an aromatic ointment or buy an attractant in the store, and the problem is solved.

So, spinning in your hands, bread in your pocket and feel free to bet.

White bread crust

White bread crust also shows good results, especially when fishing for carp, crucian carp, roach and chub. You can fish with it both from the bottom and from the surface. To prepare bait from the crust of white bread, we make cubes of 4-10 mm, the sizes depend on the fish being caught, the hooks are also selected according to the volume of the cubes.

Here we should focus on the fact that if the “bow” requires the freshest bread, then relatively stale bread is also suitable for fishing on the crust. The whole point here is that the consistency of the crust should be somewhat viscous (retained securely on the hook for at least 10 minutes), but at the same time aromatically cooked - giving off the smell of deliciously toasted bread.

Sooner or later the crust falls off the hook, and even sticking it on a small threesome does not help in such a situation. But it has been noticed that large fish (primarily carp) circle around the crust, even pushing it with their nose, but begin to swallow it only at the moment when the crust gets wet and falls apart.

Then combined bread came to the rescue: with a hook, a decent-sized crust of bread is pierced through, moving onto the fore-end, then the hook is covered with crumb - the same “bow”, or an ordinary bread dumpling is molded. After casting, the crust floats on the surface of the water for some time, holding the hook with the dumpling. But as soon as the crust falls off the hook, the one with the dumpling also drowns. This float fishing technique, where the crust of bread acts as a kind of bait, often works flawlessly.

Fishing on a crust of bread using donks is also quite successful. To do this, tear off a piece from the “sole” of the loaf and pierce it with a hook along the dense part of the crust, bringing the sting out a little. Skilled fishermen assure that if you attach the crust this way, the bait stays more securely on the hook, allowing you to confidently fish with a donkey and a feeder. Leashes are specially used short (5-6 cm) - after the feeder lies on the bottom, the crust floats up to the length of the leash, hovering above the feeder itself.

Catching carp on bread crust

The gear was collected and carefully laid out yesterday. My heart skips a beat in anticipation of the upcoming fishing trip. Today my friends and I are going to catch carp with a bale. And this method was suggested to us by an old fat and very arrogant duck, who has been living on our favorite pond since time immemorial. Year after year, she attacked our absolutely inedible floats with manic persistence. The crucian carp did not like this at all, and they moved away from the treasured place for a long time, despite the abundance of bait. The duck, having done its evil deed, proudly walked away, and we began to shower it with terrible curses and improvised objects, remaining for a long time without a bite. And yesterday, barely noticing the grinning duck, Sasha broke off a piece of bread and threw it into the center of the pond to distract the impudent duck from our floats. But the duck, having poked the bread with its beak a couple of times, lost interest in it and resolutely headed in our direction. We could only sigh sadly. The fact is that there was no point in pulling out fishing rods - in this case, the feathered robber began to loiter along the shore and moved away behind a crust of bread, which was attacked by a flock of topwater swimmers. Five minutes later, the top swimmer was replaced by a school of roach, as evidenced by less frequent and larger circles around the bread. This was already interesting, and Sasha and I began to discuss ways to deliver a hook with a nozzle to the center of the pond, because... the large one was dense to the shore and did not approach the shore with any bait. And suddenly, the dense thing disappeared somewhere. We looked at each other in bewilderment. In the middle of the reservoir a wave appeared, going straight onto the softened bread. It became wider and steeper and then simply covered the crust and left breakers and crumbs on the surface. The carp - and it was he - swallowed the bread and sank to the bottom. Bearing in mind that carp are benthophages (which means that carp should not attack the bait on the surface), they nevertheless scattered bread crusts throughout the pond in order to make sure that the statement about mass hallucinations was untenable. Three pieces disappeared within half an hour, and in the same way as the first. The crucian carp were immediately forgotten. My dad and I started developing a technique for catching fat bread lovers. Of course, they knew very well that there were carps in the pond, but they never tried to catch them. The decision was made quickly.

The basis was taken as a tug - a “baler” , which was used to catch chubs and asps on the river. A tug is two paired spinning rods with a long (40-60 cm) leash in the middle and a hook No. 6-9 (according to domestic numbering). One angler stands on the shore and releases the line from the reel, the other goes to the other shore with a second spinning rod and puts a grasshopper or dragonfly, butterfly or chafer on the hook. The nozzle is lowered to the surface of the water and, having been sent to a favorite place, they begin to play with the nozzle, hitting the water. To catch carp on the crust, we used a 0.5 mm main line, 0.2 mm leads and a No. 8 tee. Two loaves of fresh white bread were used as a nozzle. Arriving at the pond in the dark, we immediately pulled the gear and settled on different banks. I put a hump on the tee. Sasha reeled in the line, and soon the bait was already floating in the middle of the pond. Having installed the spinning rods on stands, we threw our fishing rods at the crucian carp and began to wait. Everything happened unexpectedly - the crust disappeared and the fishing line went under the water. My spinning rod was torn off the stand, but Sasha managed to hook it and shouted for me to grab the fishing line. Alexey turned out to be the most efficient of all. When I ran up, he was already slowly but surely turning the reel. Having grabbed the fishing line, I began to wrap it around my arm through my elbow. Soon Alexey picked up the carp by the gills and threw it ashore. The new crust was immediately sent to the center of the pond. We had not yet arrived when a wave appeared on the surface of the water, the same as the first one. This time we were already holding the spinning rods tightly. This carp had considerable strength. When Sasha hooked and shifted the burden of fishing onto me, letting go of the line, for a second it seemed to me that it was the devil who had hooked me and was dragging me into the pool. But six minutes later Alexey was already picking up the carp by the gills. The first carp pulled 2.5 kg, and the second 6 kg. 9 kg of fish in a couple of hours from a pond from which we usually took ten dwarfs - a good result. This happened at the beginning of the month, the carp took the crust from 5 to 7 am. Try scattering bread crusts on your pond - maybe your carp are just as original.

Black cracker

Fishing with black crackers also brings good results. This attachment is more suitable for lakes, but some fishermen manage to catch decent ides on rivers with its help. We squeeze the crust of black bread with the crumb inward and place it on a hook, falling into the water, it swells and opens on its own.

During this type of fishing, they are fed with bread, tying it with dark threads to dark stones - everything should be dark so as not to alert the timid ide.

Half a loaf is tied to each suitable stone; the loaf itself is cut lengthwise, not across. It must be tied with the flesh facing out so that the water gradually erodes the bread, carrying the crumbs downstream.

Bread quality and aroma

It is important to remind you about the quality of the bread itself: many skilled fishermen claim that it is best to fish with bread baked with your own hands; they especially praise baked goods made with milk powder; it is often used in the production of various cocktails. Milk powder is also valuable because it is rich in a wide range of odors, which expands the field for experimentation. It can be added to the dough during the kneading process.

Fierce debates and debates continue on the issue of bread flavoring. Some fishermen claim that freshly baked bread already has its own distinct aroma, which perfectly attracts fish.

Other fishermen, citing the results and experience of their fishing trips, say that the future lies in the flavoring of bread, that there were often cases when in the summer the same carp pecked only on home-baked bread with the aroma of pear or banana, without paying any attention to store-bought, nor on your own unflavored bread.

Bread fishing tactics

In conclusion, I’ll tell you about some features when fishing with bread and bread baits.

Only near residential areas

Firstly, it’s worth mentioning right away that in reservoirs that are rarely visited by fishing enthusiasts, fishing for bread is unpromising, and sometimes even simply useless. Fish in these places (oxbow rivers remote from habitation, forest lakes, silted ponds) simply ignore bread baits, clearly preferring bait from their daily diet - bloodworms, worms or insects falling into the water.

The most likely places where carp will bite well on bread are places where this bait is familiar to the fish: ponds, lakes and rivers located or flowing near residential areas.

Suitable places for fishing with bread

The interest of underwater inhabitants in bread can vary even within the same body of water. Basically it all depends on the place where you offer this bait to the fish. For example, an excellent bite on a piece of bread crumb is possible near bridges on rivers or dams, on ponds where, due to circumstances, bread often falls into the water.

They will also peck at bread in the area of bathing areas, in places where they rinse clothes (for example, bridges within populated areas), and on river currents near banks with a clean bottom.

Where is it better not to fish for bread?

But in silted bays or rivers with weak currents and a coastal strip heavily overgrown with algae, fishing for bread is not very effective. Bites on bread baits are also bad in fast currents: here the fish simply does not have time to eat the piece of bread offered to it.

At the bottom

The bottom for fishing for bread should have a hard clay, clay-sand or even silt-sand coating. There shouldn't be a lot of sludge. It bites better in a weak or moderately weak current on a bait slowly dragging along the bottom.

Often they fish in rivers simply from the bottom, equipping the tackle with enough weight to hold the bait on the ground.

It is worth recalling that bread is a nozzle for warm water. If the water in the reservoir is cold (below 14 degrees), then instead of bread it is better to offer the carp other baits and attachments.

Fishing for bread and bread crumbs

The advantage of bread crumb is that this attachment is generally available, and the balls from it stick very well on the hook. True, it is rarely used in its pure form: fish sometimes treat this bait quite coolly, preferring various cereals, peas, and corn grains. However, the bite on bread can be significantly improved if you use suitable additives.

Adding Unifeed

Adding ordinary fishing food to the bread crumb enhances its attractiveness. The bait itself, however, does not hold well on the hook, becoming looser, so it is better to give the crumb the shape of a drop.

For this combination they take crucian carp, carp, ide, chub, large roach, bream, silver bream, dace and other white fish.

Bread crust for bream

But it’s better to catch bream not with crumbs, but with a piece of crusty bread. Before fishing, pieces of bread are fried in a frying pan, and then square pieces are cut out of them so that the crumb is adjacent to the crust. It allows the bait to stay on the hook more firmly, and its decent size (1x1x1 cm) prevents small things from knocking the bait down, although there will certainly be attempts to do so.

Carp and carp can easily be used for bread crust. In this case, an even larger piece (with a side of about 1.5 cm) is hung on a hook than when fishing for bream.

"A cheese sandwich

To catch chub, you can mix bread crumb and grated cheese (Kostroma, cheddar, Edam) in equal proportions. The best method of fishing with such a bait is a running donka.

Bread with garlic for crucian carp

Adding a very small amount of garlic to the bread crumb (literally at your fingertips) will attract crucian carp to your baits. And if you add a “garlic” additive to your bait or bait, then it is quite possible to interest all the crucian carp living in the pond.

For those with a sweet tooth

Mixing crumbs from honey gingerbread or “black” gingerbread into the crumb increases the likelihood of bites from crucian carp, as well as carp and carp. These fish have a “sweet tooth” and are partial to honey. However, try not to abuse its quantity. A bait that is too sweet will scare rather than attract fish.

Store-bought flavors

To enhance the bite, you can mix various flavors into the bread: vanilla, dill, strawberry, banana and others, which are offered to fans by fishing stores. Before use, carefully read the instructions: how much aromatic mixture should be added, what time of year it works, what fish it is intended for.

When using fragrances, remember that they only work well for one day. If you plan to fish for several days, then the bait must be prepared every day.

Vegetable oils

Garlic, hemp, flaxseed, unrefined sunflower, and, of course, anise oils added to bread crumb have been used by fishermen since ancient times. Since then, little has changed: just like in the old days, adding a small amount of these oils to bread provokes fish to bite more actively.

With porridge

An excellent attachment is obtained by mixing bread crumb with millet or oatmeal porridge in a 1:1 ratio. The crumb makes the bait more viscous, and it stays on the hook better. Millet is one of the most attractive baits for carp, crucian carp and bream. A mixture of bread and oatmeal porridge will attract carp to the bait. However, the bream can ignore this bait.

Crust or crumb?

They also catch fish such as chub and ide on bread. Moreover, fishermen often argue about how best to catch these fish: with a crust of bread on top or with crumbs in the water column. In my experience, both methods are effective. Only you need to use them at different times of the year. In spring and autumn, it’s better to fish with bread at the bottom, and the bite on top is more likely in the summer.

Bread with potatoes

A bait consisting of equal parts of rye bread and mashed potatoes is practically a win-win when fishing for carp and carp. Especially if you flavor it a little with unrefined sunflower oil.

With animal bait

Bread crumb is used, as well as dough when fishing with “sandwiches”. The dough in combination with maggots, bloodworms or a piece of worm evokes the appetite of the same white fish.

True, you need to make “sandwiches” in different ways. In the “maggot-crumb” combination, the maggot is placed on the hook first, and the tip of the hook is covered with bread.

If you are fishing with the “crumb-bloodworm” or “crumb-worm” combination, first hang bread on the hook, and then cover the tip with animal bait.

Some fishermen, for example, do not bother with baiting two different baits, but simply mix crumpled fish into the bread.

Bread is the king of plant-based toppings. How to fish with bread: crust and crumb

The question arises, why bread? But what about the vaunted bloodworms and maggots? But now we will talk about attachments of plant origin (namely bread).

It is plant foods that fish prefer in the warm season. And secondly, bloodworms and maggots are not always and not always available for sale, and prices are constantly rising... Growing, for example, maggots at home is not easy, and not always possible. In addition, live bait requires special storage conditions.

Of course, mosquito larvae and flies are attractive to fish. I don’t want to say that some are better and some are worse, but let’s return to the “bread topic” and consider the advantages of bread as a topping:

  • Catchability. Bread is an attractive food for most peaceful fish.
  • Availability. Bread can be purchased at any retail outlet at an affordable price, or baked at home.
  • There are many recipes for making bread toppings.
  • Fishing with bread bait does not require delicacy of bait.
  • The bread holds up well on the hook.
  • Versatility. You can fish with bread using float, feeder, bottom tackle, etc.

The opinion that only dummies fish for bread, and that they do not properly prepare for fishing, is incorrect.

Bread is really the most accessible and cheapest attachment.

I would like to give a few recipes for making nozzles with a bread base:

  1. Knead the bread crumb with your hands until a homogeneous mass is formed. You can add sunflower oil, vanillin, honey, cinnamon, oatmeal... It’s a good idea to make such a bait with a good attractant, etc.;
  2. Bread is kneaded with boiled potatoes. Additives - to your taste. It should be added that in terms of attractants, bread is universal, because it absorbs them well and goes well with them.
  3. The crumb of white bread is kneaded with a raw egg and boiled in boiling water over low heat until the mass darkens.
  4. The bread is kneaded with steamed cake. Well, everything is clear here. Some also advise adding crushed coal.
  5. The bread is kneaded with melted cheese.
  6. You can mix bread with dough (paste), Mastyrka, fishing mixtures, sold in stores, and already flavored. You can even mix bread with different types of semolina.

Catching carp for bread

16:49, December 16, 2021 3 0 1466

Good day, dear fishermen! In this article we will talk about catching carp with bread, the existing types of bread baits, as well as the gear and fishing techniques used when catching this strong fish.

Types of bread baits for carp

One of the simplest and most inexpensive ways to prepare bait is to use regular white bread. You should not simply cut a piece of a certain shape from the product and stick it on, as this is not effective. The fish simply takes the bait. Therefore, let's consider options that are more effective. Fans of carp fishing use several popular methods for making bread baits; let’s look at some types of them as an example.

Crumb

This type of bread bait has been used by fishermen for a long time; it is very simple to make. To prepare you need:

  1. Remove the soft part from under the crust of the bread.
  2. Place it in water, preferably collected from the same reservoir.
  3. Wait a little until the pulp absorbs moisture.
  4. The mass needs to be squeezed out, this is done by hand. Most of the water needs to be removed. The result will be a plastic substance similar to dough.
  5. Small balls are formed from the resulting substance and placed on a hook.

As an additional option when preparing such bait, add the following to the water or directly to the bread pulp:

  • flavorings;
  • cake;
  • small cereals;
  • pea flour.

When adding additional ingredients, it is necessary to take into account that there should not be a lot of them, as this may scare away the cautious carp.

Bread crusts

To prepare this type of bait you need:

  1. Using a knife, cut out small cubes of bread crust with a small amount of pulp from the bread or loaf. Since the crust is very dense, it takes a long time to soften and swell in water.
  2. Pass the hook through the crust, then hide the tip and body of the device in the pulp.

In this case, carp fishing takes place in the bottom layers of water, since the bread crust is very light before it gets wet and floats up with the hook. The position of this bait in the water can be adjusted by the length of the leash or by moving the sinker. You can also fish from the surface of the reservoir, in places where carp are actively feeding nearby and can be visually detected. Most fishermen prepare the crusts at home and put them in a plastic bag, which they take with them when fishing. Various flavorings are added to the package:

  • sunflower oil;
  • anise drops;
  • and other odorous substances.

This allows you to make the bait more attractive. You can also prepare bread crusts in reserve. They are cut out of bread or loaf, making a hole in them with a knitting needle in advance. Drying is done in the oven or left to dry in the sun. The resulting baits are stored for a long time. While in water, the crusts soak and become softer.

Bread "tablets"

A very catchy, denser bait, which was invented by fishermen in the process of improving the crumb. As a result, the bread “tablet” stays on the hook for a long time and does not get soggy for a long time. When making this type of bait, it is also possible to use flavors that will make it attractive. It is possible to compare this bait with boilies popular among carp anglers. Sometimes “tablets” work more successfully than branded boilies.

I have been active fishing for quite some time and have found many ways to improve the bite. And here are the most effective:

  1. Bite activator. Attracts fish in cold and warm water with the help of pheromones included in the composition and stimulates its appetite. It’s a pity that Rosprirodnadzor wants to impose a ban on its sale.
  2. More sensitive gear. Reviews and instructions for other types of gear can be found on the pages of my website.
  3. Lures using pheromones.

You can get the rest of the secrets of successful fishing for free by reading our other articles on the site.
Prepare bread tablets as follows:

  1. Cut the bread or loaf crosswise and cut off two pieces one centimeter thick.
  2. Cut off the crust of the bread around the perimeter from these pieces.
  3. Use a rolling pin to compact the bread on both sides.
  4. On one side they are coated with honey (condensed milk, sunflower oil). You can also crush and add garlic or other fragrant ingredients.
  5. 2 pieces are combined and passed with a rolling pin again.
  6. Now the pieces need to be given the required shape. You can simply cut them into small squares, similar to lozenges.

You can put several “tablets” on a hook, or you can attach them to a separate hair, like boilies. Such bait can stay in the water for about an hour without getting wet. Bread “tablets” have proven themselves very well among fishermen.

Tackle for catching carp on bread

To catch carp with bread, they mainly use:

Fishing technique

The fishing technique is extremely simple:

  1. When using a rod with a float tackle, fishing is usually done from the bottom.
  2. When fishing without a float from the surface of a reservoir, they use the “close-up” method, that is, they watch how the carp swims up and sucks in the bait.
  3. When fishing with a bottom or feeder, the bait is cast to a suitable place, after the sinker or feeder falls to the bottom, the line begins to sag and needs to be tightened. After this, install a bite alarm.

Dear fishermen, do not forget that flavorings and food additives should be used in small quantities, since the attractiveness of your bait depends on this. When setting up a fishing spot, do not make noise, this scares away the fish, carp are very careful and timid fish!

Wish you luck!

Now only mine bites!

I caught this pike using a bite activator. No more fishing without a catch and no more looking for excuses for your bad luck! It's time to change everything!

Who can you catch for bread?

This simple bait turns out to have many clients in the school of fish. Various inhabitants of our reservoirs are not averse to eating dry crust.

Here's someone who would be happy to eat properly prepared bread for fishing:

  • verkhovka (serka, verkhovka);
  • roach (rudd);
  • bream, white bream, silver bream;
  • crucian carp of all types;
  • carp, carp

These are the main hunters for this simple fish delicacy. Hunting for each species of these fish is a real art! You need to know the habits of each fish. Be able to properly prepare not only bait from bread, but also an attractive bait from bread for fishing. Know exactly the habits and preferred habitats. In order not to miss the fish, when all the ingredients have already been prepared and everything you need has been prepared, you need to know the characteristics of the bite of each of these species for bread. It is necessary to accurately prepare the tackle for each fish, because this too has its own characteristics. A nimble top-swimming fish will never be tempted by bait mounted on hook No. 5 for crucian carp. And the tackle that catches redfish simply won’t support a decent crucian carp weighing 600 grams.

For the most part, fishermen use bread crumbs. But bread crust, when properly processed, works great. You just need to know how.

How to make bait from bread

So, the fisherman had ordinary bread at hand.
Of course, you can just pour it into the water and forget about it. But you can find more useful uses for it. Let's start with the question of how the bait is prepared. The easiest way is to simply crumble stale bread into water. But you can also make a real fishing bait.

To do this you will need the following ingredients:

  • Regular bread.
  • Sunflower oil.
  • Cake.
  • Semolina.
  • Anise flavor.

This is an ideal kit for preparing good bait. And the listed ingredients are always in the fisherman’s backpack. Well, now even a beginner will have them.

Carefully cut off the peel and soak it in water. Moisten the bread crumb just a little. When the crust softens well and turns into porridge, squeeze and drain the liquid. Add the crumb to the mixture and stir. Pour in a tablespoon of sunflower oil. This must be done in a separate container. For example, in a camping pot. Pre-soak the cake in a bucket. Pour the resulting bread mass from the kettle into a bucket and add a couple of drops of flavoring. To stir thoroughly. To be honest, there are no strict proportions. Approximately equal shares are taken. The bait is kneaded until smooth. At the end, semolina is added to the mixture and everything is mixed again. Then let the bait stand for about an hour until the semolina swells. Form the bait balls and you're done. Can be sent to a pond.

How to catch someone

So, the bait is ready.
Now the fun part begins - fishing for bread. The bread bait is made according to the order listed in the previous chapter. Divided by depth to which the cast will be made:

  1. The surface is high melting.
  2. At medium depths there are roaches and bream.
  3. Along the bottom - crucian carp, bream, carp.

The verkhovka (verkhoplavka, serka) walks along the surface itself. To catch it, a fishing line with a thickness of 0.15-0.20, a small hook of 3-3.5 in size and a light float balanced by a corresponding weight are placed on a fishing rod.

Bait

Pieces are plucked from the slightly moistened bread crumb and rolled into balls the size of a match head. They are put on the hook, slightly covering the sting. Now the question is how to catch it. The hook is released to a depth of 10-15 centimeters. Just pour dry crumbs into the water and start the fun. The serka bites sharply. The peculiarity is that the little fish play a lot with the bait and the float dances on the water like crazy. The main thing here is to catch the moment when it suddenly goes under the water and hook it.

Now more serious prey - white bream, rudd, roach. In this case, catching fish with bread is a little more difficult. These fish stay at “half water,” as fishermen say. This means that you need to set the depth at which the bait will be located approximately halfway between the surface and the bottom. The hook goes 3-4. Medium float. Maybe a pen. Feed with a preparation that you prepared for fishing with your own hands.

Bread bait again

There are slight differences here. The same crumb comes with different flavors. For example, bread with garlic, with anise, with vanilla. No more ingredients. The pellets are made the size of a small pea. A little elongated. These breeds do not bite very quickly. Usually the float moves to the side, slowly sinking. Hook when completely submerged.
