My TOP 20 best wobblers
Date: July 13, 2021 | 030
In recent years, it is bulk baits, wobblers, that have captured a huge part of the market. Competing in prevalence and popularity with silicone baits, wobblers have greatly displaced various spinners from the arsenals of modern spinning anglers. Of course, such an abundance of baits encourages their ordering, classification and compilation of certain ratings, TOPs. So, in one of the recent publications, I reviewed the TOP wobblers according to one authoritative portal. Today, I want to present to your attention my subjective TOP 20 best wobblers .
Roughly speaking, without any other reservations on the purpose of wobblers for certain places, conditions, types of fish, but simply: if it were possible to take only 20 models, then what would they be. Naturally, out of hundreds, or even thousands of wobblers on sale today, many worthy baits will not make it into this TOP. So, don't judge strictly. Remember that this is my subjective TOP, a personal view on the optimal set of wobblers. Also, it must be noted that this TOP includes only classic wobblers for casting spinning rod fishing. I did not include walkers, poppers, other topwaters, jerks, rattlins, or purely trolling models in this selection.
So, let's go!
Yo-zuri L-Minnow
Yo-zuri L-Minnow is one of the first Japanese wobblers that I met. By today's standards, it is not super-cool, nor does it have any clever balancing systems. Yes, and it costs, on par with high-quality Korean wobblers and noticeably cheaper than representatives of the Japanese wobbler industry. However, this wobbler flies great (especially the 44mm version) and catches fish perfectly. All three size modifications of the Elka are good in their own way (33mm, 44mm and 66mm).
Probably, it is this wobbler that holds my record for the number of fish species it catches. Here we came across classic predators, semi-predatory fish, and peaceful species. How many times has Yo-zuri L-Minnow helped out? I caught both on small fast rivers and in still water. The wobbler not only has an excellent game on the evenly, but also plays well on twitching.
In general, although the market is overcrowded with everything, I still consider the Yo-zuri L-Minnow one of the best wobblers that should be in the arsenal of every spinning player.
Yo-zuri 3D Flat Crank
Yo-zuri 3D Flat Crank wobbler proved to be one of the best options . The wobbler has excellent range. Noise wobbler, floating. He plays perfectly on a uniform retrieve, swaying his sides imposingly. It’s optimal to do it this way, just evenly, or evenly with pauses (“stop&go”).
The Yo-zuri 3D Flat Crank in NPB, the so-called “gray” color, performed especially well. A very good wobbler. Some colleagues, as I have heard, successfully use it to catch not only pike in standing and slow-flowing reservoirs, but also large chub in rivers.
The only thing is that before using this wobbler, I recommend replacing the tees. Instead of frankly stupid and wretched relatives, I put Ovner of the same size. You can use some other hooks, as long as they are reliable and sharp. The problem of cheap crappy hooks is common to some Yo-zuri wobblers. They need to be changed.
Yo-zuri 3D Shad
Another great model from Yo-zuri. Somehow, it was the Yo-zuri 3D Shad and the updated Yo-zuri 3DS Shad that showed themselves better than the minnow from the same series of lures. At least that's how it was for me.
Perhaps this wobbler would not have entered my TOP, but it shows itself too brightly when hunting for large perch, in the fall, on large lakes and reservoirs. He caught both pike and pike perch. But it was the humpbacks that caught the shad like no other wobblers from my extensive arsenal.
Yo-zuri Hardcore Surface Crank (WO.B.RU)
This wobbler was produced under different names. Initially, I knew it as Yo-zuri WO.B.RU model F706 or R816, zero-immersion version. Then, an updated version of the Hardcore Surface Crank appeared. The essence is the same, the design and set of colors are slightly different.
This wobbler showed itself very well when fishing for pike in shallow overgrown bays and lakes. In fact, Yo-zuri Hardcore 0 can be deepened, but not more than 15-20cm, if you lower the tip of the spinning rod all the way to the water. In general, the bait passes perfectly over the algae carpet, even if it practically reaches the surface. One of the best models in such conditions.
Jackall Chubby
Jackall Chubby is one of the best, in my opinion, crankbait wobblers. A small pot-bellied wobbler, it showed itself perfectly when hunting for chub, ide, and when catching perch. It leaves a good impression when fishing in a significant current, as they say - it holds the stream. The wobbler is made of high quality, with a fairly durable coating. Made in a wide variety of cool colors. The price, as for Japanese wobblers, is not prohibitive.
All versions of Jackall Chubby have proven themselves well - zero, classic, and deep-sea.
Jackall Cherry
The Jackall Cherry is a larger crank, very close in shape and essence to its smaller brother, the Chubby, discussed above.
Here, too, there are versions with minimal depth, with medium depth, and a deep-water version.
Jackall Cherry has proven itself to be excellent when fishing for pike in closed reservoirs - lakes, ponds, river bays.
Jackall Tiny Magallon
Jackall Tiny Magallon is a famous wobbler compound. This bait, especially in the bright matt tiger color, became, at one time, a hit for pike fishing on the overgrown shallows of rivers and bays. Jackall Tiny Magallon plays well on a simple uniform and twitches perfectly.
The only problem with this wobbler can be considered the soft tail, which, sooner or later, comes off. You can fish without it. Or, try to glue in a tail cut from plastic or an old silicone bait.
There are many copies of such a successful wobbler. Probably the most famous clone is Kosadaka Cord-R. According to my observations, it catches no worse. However, it doesn't fly that far. But it costs significantly less than the original.
Jackall Squad Minnow
Jackall Squad Minnow is one of the best minnow wobblers. One of the first models recommended for beginners when mastering twitching fishing techniques.
All sized versions of this wobbler have proven themselves to be excellent. The smaller version (65mm) showed itself well both when fishing for pike in lakes and when hunting for large perch. Medium (80mm) and large (95mm) options are classic pike. They don't fly as far as we would like. But, these wobblers play well both on a uniform retrieve and with various jerky animations.
Zip Baits Orbit
ZipBaits Orbit is one of the very popular minnow wobblers. The wobbler is Japanese, elite, quite expensive, very popular. There are several size versions. And they are all good. Smaller versions (ZipBaits Orbit 65) are perfect for catching chubs and asps. Larger ones (ZipBaits Orbit 80 and 90) - for zander and pike. The largest ones (ZipBaits Orbit 110) are for pike.
There are more simplified and budget clones of this wobbler. For example, the Kosadaka Mascot wobbler is quite popular and widespread.
ZipBaits Hickory
ZipBaits Hickory is an excellent crankbait. This Japanese wobbler has shown itself well when fishing in currents and holds the flow remarkably well. Both the basic version is 34mm and the smaller version is 25mm (ZipBaits Baby Hickory). A wonderful model for catching chub, trout and other salmon.
ZipBaits Rigge
Another elite bait from the Japanese brand ZipBaits. A whole family of wobblers is produced under the name Rigge - from frankly ultra-light models to very large pike wobblers.
These wobblers are good for fishing in currents and in still water. ZipBaits Rigge models, despite their high cost, continue to be very popular.
Kosadaka Mirage XS
Kosadaka Mirage XS is an inexpensive wobbler, but it has proven itself very well. This model has proven itself well when fishing for pike in lakes. In general, the wobbler is quite close in purpose to the Yo-zuri 3D Flat Crank.
Although Kosadaka Mirage XS is a clone of ZipBaits Khamsin, unfortunately, I am not very familiar with the original. And, here, Kosadakov’s “crucian carp” showed itself to be great, and not only for me. There are also good reviews from friends.
Asakura Perch
It may be unexpected, but my TOP includes several, both not top and not very popular wobblers, from a brand such as Asakura. Well, it’s a matter of habit... So, Asakura Perch is an excellent option for catching pike in bays, along water lilies or reed walls. For me, it is in this quality that these wobblers are very good.
Asakura S-Hornet
A wobbler such as the Asakura S-Hornet performed well for perch and small chub. Despite its unpretentiousness, for some reason I really liked this model.
Tsuribito Baby Crank
One of my favorite micro-wobblers for small chub and perch. An excellent option for fishing on small rivers with not very strong currents. Tsuribito Baby Crank is also one of my personal favorites. It is clear that this is just a matter of habit. There are many, in principle, higher quality micro-cranks. But, this is the TOP of my favorites... So, here it is Tsuribito Baby Crank, and not something else.
Lucky Craft Clutch
Lucky Craft Clutch is a very good Japanese crank for catching chub in the current. It also catches every other predator - pike, perch, asp, large ide, salmon, etc.
Smith Camion
Of course, I couldn’t help but take the series of famous Smith Camion crankbait wobblers into my TOP. The wobbler holds the current perfectly and catches both trout and chub perfectly.
Owner C'ultiva Rip'N Minnow
The Owner C'ultiva Rip'N Minnow wobbler turned out to be my favorite for catching walleye on the night shallows. So, it’s quite deserved that this model made it into this top. I caught both chub and pike on the C'ultiva Rip'N Minnow.
Pontoon 21 CrackJack
The Pontoon 21 CrackJack wobbler has proven itself very well . Of the variety of the CrackJack line, I especially liked the 78mm and 48mm options. These wobblers twitch well and play well. These wobblers are great for catching any predator: pike, pike perch, perch, asp. It was for the asp that I initially took these wobblers. But, Pontoon 21 CrackJack showed itself more widely.
In general, Pontoon 21 has quite a lot of good quality wobblers, including some of the relative new products. But, for old times sake, I included CrackJack here.
Salmo Hornet
I consider Salmov wobblers to be backward, a relic of the past. In general, I am very indignant when I see the prices for these baits. As for me, for “this” the price should be several times lower than for modern Japanese baits. But there is no such balance. However, several models of Salmo wobblers deserve attention. Perhaps the most successful wobbler of this brand was the Salmo Hornet. Version 4S. You can try other options - both smaller and larger pike ones.
With the sinking four, I caught pike, chub, and perch. Good high frequency crank.
As you can see, my TOP includes 4 models each from relatively inexpensive Japanese brands Yo-zuri and Jackall. Of the elite ones, only the ZipBaits brand became a supplier of baits in my personal TOP. And the point is not that I belittle the level of wobblers Megabass, OSP, Imakatsu and others. It’s just that I personally haven’t tried a lot of things, for a lot of things, I just don’t have such warm feelings as for the above-mentioned baits. This rating also included very cheap models, and not the most popular, in general, among the fishing fraternity. But it couldn’t be done without the classics.
Which wobblers would you include in the TOP of the best?
