Fishing on the Yeisk Estuary
The waters of the Yeisk Estuary contain less sea salt due to desalination by the Yeya River.

In the waters of the estuary, industrial fishing is carried out by fishing state farms located in the settlements of Shirochanka and Aleksandrovka on the southern coast, as well as Glafirovka and Nikolaevka on the northern coast of the bay. The total industrial catch is up to 32 thousand tons per year. And of course, amateur fishermen make their contribution to the renewal of the natural resource, for whom the estuary has become not only a favorite place for quiet hunting, but also often a place for family vacations.
The water area of the estuary is federal property, and environmental authorities strictly monitor compliance with the norms and laws regulating the use of water resources. So, for example, amateur fishing is permitted using only bottom, float rods and spinning rods, and from February 1 to May 1 annually, fishing is completely prohibited with all types of fishing equipment. Violation of prohibitions can lead to unpleasant consequences for the violator, in the form of large financial sanctions.
What kind of fish can you catch?
Thanks to the habitat of about twenty-five species of fish, the fame of Yeisk Bay spreads far beyond just local amateur fishermen. In the fertile waters of the estuary, both marine representatives of aquatic fauna and almost all freshwater species, the most popular among fishermen, coexist at the same time. So, for example, along with pike perch, sabrefish, pelengas, herring, sea goby and, of course, the famous Azov ram, the trophy of a successful fisherman will certainly be replenished with the desired ones: bream, crucian carp, carp, perch, pike. It is extremely rare, but still there are sturgeon representatives - beluga, sturgeon, stellate sturgeon.
How and when to catch?
Despite the abundance of freshwater fish species, we should not forget that, although the estuary is quite desalinated, fishing from the shore, as in a full-fledged freshwater body, will not bring the desired result. In the bay you should adhere to the rules of sea fishing, i.e. from a boat, at a considerable distance from the shore.
The most favorable fishing period is considered to be autumn and winter. After a hot summer, the waters of the estuary cool down somewhat, which stimulates more active movement of its inhabitants in search of food before the winter stagnation. In winter, the estuary is replete with Azov rams that enter it to spawn. Fishing, as described above, is carried out using bottom gear, spinning and float rods.
What to catch?
Regarding groundbaits and lures, their range is, in principle, no different from that usually used in freshwater bodies of water. These are cakes, all kinds of vegetable (semolina, cereals, etc.) and animal (worms, maggots) attachments.
Where to fish?
The most favorite places for fishing on the estuary are the settlements located on its coast. A fisherman who has come from far away, staying in accommodation rented from hospitable local residents, will also be able to rent a boat, while receiving comprehensive advice on the most catchable places in the estuary.
Fishing on the Lebyazhye Estuary
Miussky Estuary
This reservoir is located in the Krasnodar Territory, in its Bryukhovetsky district. Belongs to the Beisug River basin. It is a steppe reservoir and is located significantly away from the Sea of Azov. Average depths are 1.5...2 m, the largest are 3 m.

The thickness of the ice cover is most often sufficient for winter fishing. Many ice fishing enthusiasts look forward to the moment when it will be safe to set foot on the bay ice.
Winter is the most favorable period for “hunting” for rams. Adult individuals of this species in the Yeisk Estuary reach a length of up to 32 cm. But one should not forget that specimens that have not reached 16 centimeters in length must be immediately released; this is the law and it is better not to break it.
As in open water, in winter you are also unlikely to have luck near the coastline. Just like on a boat, you should be prepared to march, but on foot, for a distance of about 2-2.5 km. from the shore. Therefore, you should think carefully about the set of equipment you carry, so that unnecessary things do not tire you out during the transition. Among the mandatory ones, you can highlight a compass, a tent and waterproof warm shoes with sufficiently high tops.
Coastal areas have always been distinguished by a unique microclimate with rapidly changing weather conditions. The water area of the estuary is no exception and precipitation in the form of dense fog in winter is not uncommon here. In this case, the compass will help you not to stray from the correct course, and a broken tent will protect you from the rain that suddenly hits you. As for waterproof shoes. The bay never lacks winter fishing enthusiasts. The large concentration of fishermen puts considerable pressure on the ice, which is why estuary water is always present on its surface. And in some cases, you even have to cross unfrozen areas from the shore to the freeze-up. And finally, it’s probably worth giving a couple of tips on the ram fishing technique. It should be understood that the ram is a schooling fish. Schools of rams “walk” in circles in search of food in the water column. Therefore, if there is not a single bite within 10-15 minutes, you should try your luck in another place, without wasting time uselessly sitting in one place. It is not necessary to feed the fish. Due to the winter shortage of food supply, the ram is already quite hungry and with great pleasure absorbs any treats on a fishing hook or jig. Any vegetable bait from the fisherman’s summer assortment is used as bait.
Well, for the rest, if you are sufficiently sociable and armed with “means of public diplomacy”, any local fisherman will educate you in all the intricacies of the process. But with only one important caveat: the exchange of experience should take place strictly on the shore, on the eve of going out on the ice! And there is only hot tea. Fishing on the Krasnodar estuaries
There are many estuaries in Kuban that can give fishermen a good catch. Almost the entire coast of the Azov Sea on Temryuk-Primorsko-Akhtarsk consists of such reservoirs. The area around them is impassable, there are no roads or communications.
Most of the Krasnodar estuaries are shallow, their average depths are 0.5...2.5 m. All existing reservoirs are divided into 3 large groups:
- Akhtarsko-Grivensky, located north of the Protoka River;

- Zakubanskie, Akhtanizovskie: these estuaries are located south of Kuban.
The largest in area among the Krasnodar estuaries are Durnoy, Sladky, Gluboky, Dolgy, and Vostochny. In addition to those mentioned, they fish on the Akhtanizovsky, Akhtarsky, Beysugsky, Bugazsky, Vityazevsky, Voyskovy, Gorky, Kiziltashsky, Kirpilsky, Kurchansky, Lebyazhy and many other estuaries. All of them “communicate” with each other through existing narrow channels, girts, eriks, artificial canals and are covered for the most part with different plants, including reeds, sedges, cattails, reeds, white and yellow water lilies, arrowheads, telores, chilim, or water chestnuts .
The Krasnodar estuaries are home to 114 different species of fish. People come here to hunt pike, pike perch, asp, sterlet, beluga, perch, catfish, tench, sprat, anchovy, bull, bream, carp, carp, and silver carp. Most anglers fish with spinning rods and float rods, following the rule - no more than 10 hooks per person.
You can fish on the Krasnodar estuaries all year round, with the exception of the spring ban, which usually occurs in the period March-May. In addition, the law prohibits the fishing of sturgeon, lamprey, Black Sea salmon, shemai, croaker, gurnard, kutum carp, oysters, Black Sea crabs, and pearl mussels.
When fishing on the Krasnodar estuaries, there are restrictions on the size of the fish caught that you can take with you. For example, for pike perch it is 38 cm or more, for catfish - 60 cm, for carp - 30 cm, for carp - 24 cm, for ram - 16 cm, for goby - 10 cm, for perch - beyond 15 cm, for pelengas - 38 cm, for tench - 17 cm, for crayfish - 9 cm, etc.
Catching predators with spinning rods on the Krasnodar estuaries is carried out with all baits known to anglers. Poppers are popular in very shallow areas. Cake, worms, semolina, and maggots are put on the hook of float gear. For each type of fish you need to try and find the most suitable one for specific fishing conditions.
Fishing on the Khadzhibey Estuary
This is the famous Odessa estuary, about 7 km from Odessa to the east. The reservoir is long (31...33 km) and narrow (width 0.5...3.5 km), with a maximum depth of 2.5 m, with low salinity of water. It is separated from the sea by a 5 km wide embankment of sand and shell rock and has no direct access to the sea. At the bottom of the estuary there is a layer of mud, which is considered medicinal by specialists, which led to the emergence of many recreation centers and sanatoriums on the banks of the reservoir.
Fishermen, going fishing in the Khadzhibey Estuary, hope to catch perch, pike perch, carp, crucian carp, pelengas, and goby. Their catch can be diversified by Black Sea shrimp and mussels.
There are many places where you can go fishing on the estuary. Some of them: the dam area near the settlement of Usatovo, the second pier in Natti, near the bridge along which the Kiev highway passes - “at Chaika”. In these places the catch is usually pelengas, pike perch, and carp. Fishing here is paid, although they charge little money - until recently only 5 UAH.
They go out for carp with spinning rods in the early morning or evening, equipped with “harvesters”; Hominy is used for bait. They also use bread crumbs, corn, and boiled pearl barley, but local carp treat such baits with disdain and bite less often.
They throw the gear away. When fishing, there are often mishaps due to the abundance of stones closer to the shore, which the carp can take advantage of.
Carp should be caught further from the shore. It is in such places that kilogram predators can be caught. They fish with spinning rods, using silicone as bait; By autumn, pike perch begins to respond well to small winter spinners and bull bait.
Many fishermen on the Khadzhibey Estuary specialize in catching pelengas. They use bottom gear complete with spinning rods and use elastic bands. They fish from the shore, from a boat. The bait is a hairy worm, which is sold in Usatovo right next to the dam.
The crucian carp bites well in the reservoir, although in those places that are pre-fed with poppy grass. It is caught on maggots and takes worms well. You can also catch grass carp in the estuary. But to do this, you need to climb further to the center of the reservoir and use wheat, which must be steamed.
