Reservoirs of Saratov and the Saratov region

More than 180 small rivers flow through the territory of the Saratov region with a total length of more than 10 thousand kilometers, belonging to the Don basin in the west, the Kamysh-Samar lakes in the eastern part and the Volga basin in the central regions. The main river is the Volga, 420 kilometers of which passes through the Saratov region and divides it into (western) right and (eastern) left banks. In the southern part of the Volga flow it forms the Volgograd Reservoir, in the northern part - the Saratov Reservoir. The largest rivers on the left bank are the Bolshoy Irgiz and Maly Irgiz, Bolshoi Karaman, and Eruslan. The river network of the right bank is denser; the most important rivers include Khoper, Medveditsa, Tereshka, Alai, Chardym, Kurdyum. Most of the lakes in the region are located in the floodplains of rivers, mainly on the right bank. In the steppes of the Trans-Volga region, many ponds were built for agricultural needs, supported by spring melt water.

Fishing bases

Fishing bases in the Saratov region are very numerous, located mainly on the banks of the Volga or Saratov and Volgograd reservoirs, but they are also found on smaller rivers. Among the fishing and recreation centers we can highlight:

  • "Oriole". The base is located on an island almost opposite the center of Saratov. It is possible to rent boats and equipment, and if you wish and have enough finance, you can also rent a hovercraft.
  • "Bunny ears." The base is located on the Tereshka River and is considered mostly a hunting base, but fishermen will also find something to do here.
  • "Polyanka" This base offers fishing for both spinners and float fishing lovers. For the former, there are decent-sized pike, pike perch, catfish and perch here, for the latter – bream, rudd, tench, crucian ide.
  • Base "Luck". Located on the shore of the Saratov reservoir. In addition to cottages equipped with all the equipment necessary for a comfortable stay, they also offer rental services for swimming equipment and fishing equipment, as well as a variety of gear. Local rangers will show the catchable places to vacationers.
  • "Guest House". The base with this name is located near the village of Alekseevka, on the right bank of the Saratov reservoir. In addition to the possibility of holding business meetings and conferences, as well as organizing family leisure, they also offer the organization of fishing, for which motor boats are available.
  • "Winged". This recreation center is aimed primarily at fishermen. Here you can rent not only swimming equipment, but also a wide variety of fishing equipment, as well as order the services of an instructor who knows local peculiarities. There is also the possibility of processing the catch.
  • "Golden Trout" The reservoir available at the base is favorably distinguished by the species composition of fish - sturgeon, sterlet, and trout are found here. The reservoir is equipped with bridges for comfortable fishing, and fishing itself is possible here all year round.

Fishing bases usually offer the most comfortable conditions for living and fishing. Often in such establishments it is possible to rent not only swimming equipment, but also gear, and the services of local rangers are often available.

Types of fish in reservoirs

In the ponds and lakes of the Saratov region, fish such as carp, carp, grass carp, silver carp, etc. are artificially bred. In natural reservoirs there are: crucian carp, pike, catfish, pike perch, bream, tench, perch, sabrefish, ruffe, roach, burbot, chub. For spawning, stellate sturgeon, sterlet, salmon, as well as beluga and sturgeon go from the Caspian Sea to the Volga.

The ide, which is often caught on a spinning rod using small spoons, has rightfully received the status of a cult fish in the reservoirs of the region. Fishermen come across chub and asp along with ide. Local amateurs consider patience to be the main secret of successful ide fishing, without which no fishing can be done. In the Volgograd Reservoir itself, bream is caught all year round, there is a lot of pike, and pike perch can be of unprecedented sizes.

Many lakes in the region are equipped with tourist bases where fishermen can stay and relax in comfort while doing their favorite pastime. In stocked ponds you can catch pike, carp, crucian carp and even catfish of decent size, so fishing in the Saratov region brings fans a lot of joy from a successful catch.

Recreation centers and paid fishing

Both recreation centers and paid ponds are mainly located in the vicinity of Saratov. This is no coincidence - the main paying clientele is located there. There are many islands on the Volga, spits, shallows and creeks where an angler, renting a boat, can catch a trophy specimen and catch a lot of small fish. Of the fishing bases, there are about, "Roger", "Volzhino", the camp site "Plyos" and the base "Skala". Here you can rent a boat, but it is better to agree on availability in advance. In any case, a fisherman staying at the base always has the opportunity to safely park his car, spend the night with his family in a room on comfortable beds and have dinner in the dining room, and in some cases, cook the caught fish.

You can also fish on paid reservoirs. In most cases, these are artificially dug ponds. It is worth noting that the cost of fishing here is not too high - from 150 to 500 rubles per day per person. However, in most cases, the fish you catch will have to be purchased. However, at the Upper Pond farm you can catch up to 4 kilograms of fish for free.

It is worth noting that in most cases, reservoirs for paid fishing are stocked with non-predatory fish species - carp, silver carp, and grass carp. For trout fishing there are paid platforms “Chernomorets” and “Lesnaya Skazka”, but you should inquire in advance about the launch of trout. There are hourly fishing services, the cost of which is from 50 rubles per hour. In most paid farms it is forbidden to fish with spinners, as this may cause the discoloration of non-predatory fish, which are not the target object of fishing with a spinner.

Paid reservoirs are equipped with comfortable benches, fishing shelters, toilets, parking and other amenities. Fish are usually released at least once a week, so you can always hope for a catch, given the low congestion of reservoirs. You can rent a fishing rod; fishing from a boat is prohibited in most places. The most promising type of fishing on the pay zones of the Saratov region is a match rod and feeder. They allow you to fish in any area of a small pond from any point on the shore, and allow you to use bait. It is quite rare here to feed fish with compound feed, so it is usually not overfed and reacts adequately to bait.

Saratov Reservoir

Compared to Volgograd, it is slightly smaller in size and depth, as well as a more complex and inconvenient coastline for fishing and bottom topography in most areas, which makes the presence of a swimming device extremely desirable. If you have a boat, you can fish areas of flooded islands, deep holes and the confluence of tributaries.

At such points it is not uncommon to catch trophy pike, as well as pike perch weighing over 10 kilograms, crucian carp up to 1.5 kilograms in weight, as well as kilogram perch. The features of the reservoir also include relatively low snags, which allows the use of thin cords, as well as equipping edible silicone with tees rather than offset hooks. The composition of the ichthyofauna is approximately the same as in the case of the Volgograd Reservoir.

Features of fishing in the Saratov region

The largest body of water in the Saratov region

The Saratov Reservoir is considered. There are several settlements on its banks. In the middle of the reservoir there is an extensive network of islands, which divides it into several branches, forming bays and channels.

Of greatest interest to anglers

represents part of the reservoir located near the village of Panshino. The banks of the reservoir here are high and hilly, and the height of the cliff near the water is about three meters. The bottom in this place is muddy, marshy, interspersed with shells and sharp edges. Sometimes on the shore of the reservoir near the village there are 30 - 40 cars, in which fishermen from Saratov, the region and nearby regions arrived here.

In Panshino the place is so successful from the point of view of fishing that probably not a single angler has ever left here without fish. You can count on a rich catch at any time of the year and in any weather. The main difficulty is getting here, especially in rainy weather. The weather here changes quite often and very sharply. In summer, bream becomes the main prey for fishermen.

Small rivers of the Saratov region

The variety of untouched picturesque landscapes and the abundance of fish in the Saratov region have led to the enormous popularity of fishing on the small rivers of the region. The most popular places among fishermen are:

The Ilovlya River is one of the most picturesque places in the region, where experienced fishermen can count on catching a wide variety of prey (crucian carp, roach, perch, ide, chub, bream, perch or pike). To catch trophy specimens, local fishermen advise fishing from a boat - this way the angler can get close to the thickets without spooking the fish. Before you go fishing, it is important to study the area and the fishing characteristics on this narrow river. The Cherdym River is famous for the fact that trout is found among its inhabitants. Of course, the size of its individuals is not as large as we would like, and it is rarely possible to catch it, but the very possibility of obtaining such a trophy attracts anglers from all over the region. Perch, asp, bersh, pike, ide and catfish are also caught in the reservoir. The main inhabitant of the river is considered to be the chub, fishing for which often attracts pike to the fishing spot. Its most intense bite is observed from May to October. The steppe river Small Karman is rich in traditional fish species of such reservoirs - crucian carp, carp, tench, pike. Closer to the confluence with the Volga, large individuals of catfish, perch, pike perch, and asp are found. The surrounding region is famous for its reserves of mushrooms and wild berries. The Big Pocket River is known for a large number of bays, lakes and oxbow lakes; the depth of river holes can reach 15 meters. The reservoir contains a wide variety of fish species - from rudd to catfish. The small Mechetka River, which has actually turned into a small reservoir, is famous for its large specimens of wild carp and pike (some individuals of the latter reached a weight of up to 8 kg).

Fishing on the Sterekh River promises the opportunity to get fish such as catfish, pike, bream, pike perch, perch and crucian carp into your tank

It is important to be careful when fishing in this reservoir, since there are many snags at the mouth due to flooding of the floodplain forest. The upper reaches of the Tarlyk River are rich in crucian carp, pike, and tench; in the lower reaches, catfish, pike perch, and carp are more common. Of particular interest to lovers of wobbler or fly fishing is the large Tereshka River. In the middle part of the reservoir, the bottom becomes rocky and the current becomes fast, which is ideal for this type of fishing.

The middle reaches are famous for fishing for chub and ide, the lower reaches for pike, catfish, pike perch, carp, and bream. The Karamysh and Lartyk rivers, belonging to the Don basin, are known for such inhabitants as carp and eel.

Usovka

A relatively small village located approximately 70 kilometers from the regional center. The Volga in this place is distinguished by its relatively small width with great depths and a pronounced current. Often this is where fishing competitions are held, including on an all-Russian scale. Trophy catfish, pike or pike perch are often caught here. Fishing places here are often located relatively close to the shore, and there is no urgent need for a floating device, as, for example, in reservoirs.

Paid ponds

The advantages of paid ponds include a precisely known species composition of the fish found, comfortable conditions for fishing - pre-prepared places, with mowed coastal vegetation, pavements, and places for rest. Also, as a rule, the personnel servicing such reservoirs closely monitor the cleanliness of the banks. Among the disadvantages, one should highlight the limitation on the number of simultaneously used gear, the restriction on fishing (usually for a catch in excess of the norm established for a particular reservoir, you must pay extra), and, in fact, the cost of the ticket itself.

Among the most popular reservoirs visited by fishermen are:

  • One of the most famous such reservoirs can be considered the Dubki pond, located in the village of the same name, which is about 20 kilometers from Saratov. Fishermen are attracted by the presence of trophy-sized carp, silver carp and catfish in the reservoir, while the pond is also stocked with pike, perch and trout, which means it is suitable not only for lovers of catching peaceful fish, but also for spinning anglers.
  • "Gagarinsky". This pond contains carp, crucian carp, grass carp, rudd, perch, and silver carp. There are quite a lot of large fish, but there is a limit on the maximum weight of the catch - over 5 kilograms will have to be released.
  • Pond "BAM", located near Engels. The water here has not been drained for more than 12 years, which makes the conditions for fish as close to natural as possible. There are also thermal hydrogen sulfide springs that heat the water, which contributes to successful fishing in late autumn or early spring.
  • “Upper Pond” - this reservoir is located in the Tatishchevsky district, not far from the village of Idolga. Stocked with fish as standard - there are quite large crucian carp, carp and grass carp here. You can fish here with a maximum of two tackles at the same time. At the same time, in addition to paying for fishing time, you will also have to pay for each kilogram of overfishing over 4 kilograms.
  • Pond "Rogachev". It has a fairly diverse ichthyofauna; carp, pike, grass carp, bream, tench, and even trout are found here. The pond is divided into four zones, which differ in the probability of catching trophy specimens, comfort, and, accordingly, cost.

On a note! Some paid ponds and fishing bases provide the opportunity to catch those species of fish that either do not occur in natural conditions, or their fishing in natural reservoirs is prohibited.

In the Saratov region there is a fairly large number of various reservoirs, where any angler can find entertainment to suit his taste and budget - from equipped paid ponds to wild areas of small rivers.
