What kind of fish is found in Manych

About fishing on Manych today

The Rostov region has many places where excellent conditions for fishing have been created; it is for this reason that it attracts admirers of fishing here, like a magnet, for whom not only the catch is important, but also the local landscapes. Everyone who visited there experienced first-hand what fishing on the Manych River is like. Clear mirror water, beautiful views and an abundance of different fish. What else do you need?

It should be noted that the ecology on the Manych River was in poor condition until recently; it was all due to industrial emissions from enterprises that heavily polluted the river in large quantities. Today the situation has changed. Fishermen who often fish in these places increasingly began to notice an increase in the number of crayfish, which, very importantly, do not live in polluted waters.

"Catch fish big and small"

Fishing is a great pastime for a group of friends, work colleagues or for a family event.

Fishing is not just about catching fish. This is a whole science, and even an art. Mental relaxation, fresh air, the ritual of cooking fish soup by the fire and intimate conversations with friends. For unenlightened beginners, this word is not associated with any difficulties. Well, just think, I threw out a fishing rod, saying “catch a fish big and small,” and the fish itself will cling to the hook. Nothing like this! Even the ancient Socrates said: “How much is known about all sorts of nonsense and nothing about biting fish. »

Experienced fishermen believe that knowledge of the art of fishing should begin with crucian carp. This is almost the most common fish in Russia, which takes root well in a variety of reservoirs - rivers, lakes, overgrown ponds, that is, where other fish might not take root. But crucian carp is unpretentious and reproduces well in any conditions.

Fishing on the Veselovsky Reservoir: main features and advantages

The Ust-Manych and Veselovskoe reservoirs, formed on the Western Manych River, with the adjacent lake system, and constituting a single hydraulic system, are usually called by one name - the Veselovskoe reservoir.

The reservoir area is 238 square kilometers, the coastline is indented, which contributed to the emergence of several estuaries and straits. In the summer months the water warms up well, and from November to March the reservoir freezes.

The average depth of the reservoir is 3 meters, but there are places where it reaches 7 meters. The main source of fish here are small bays and creeks. On the banks of the river there are nesting places of rare waterfowl: pink pelican, red-breasted goose, wild goose.

Fishing on Manych is distinguished by a varied and rich catch. The river is home to grass carp, asp, catfish, pike, chub, perch, pike perch, carp, and roach.

Zander.

If we consider catching predatory fish, then pike perch will come first. It is the opportunity to catch pike perch that attracts jig fans to fishing at the Veselovsky Reservoir.

Pike perch is a representative of the perch family, a typical predator. Prized for its tasty meat. Compared to ruff and perch, this is a more heat-loving fish.

What kind of fish can you catch here?

The Manych River has become a kind of Mecca for many fishermen, and this is not strange, since in its waters there is a huge amount of fish of various species, starting with the ubiquitous roach and ending with asp, pike perch, and carp, which are abundant here. Also quite common in the river are: redfish, dace, perch, pike, ide, carp, crucian carp, catfish, roach, minnow, bleak, whitefish, pike perch.

Fishing Features

The fauna of the river is very diverse. Fans of fishing value the western half of the river (about 200-220) km from the mouth. Fishing on Manych traditionally begins in April, since fish activity under the ice is relatively low at the end of winter. Main trophies:

  • perch;
  • zander;
  • pike;
  • crucian carp;
  • silver bream;
  • roach.

Somewhat less common:

  • carp;
  • carp;
  • bream;
  • ide;
  • catfish;
  • burbot;
  • rudd;
  • ram.

Most fishing occurs from the shore, but the use of boats is also practiced.

Fishermen note high activity of two predators in the fall: pike perch and perch. Of the peace-loving species, the most caught during this period are carp, crucian carp and roach.

The river remains under ice from the third ten days of November to the first half of March. Sometimes in spring the ice melts 1-2 weeks earlier. A special feature of winter fishing on Manych is that fish are relatively often found directly under the ice. It is believed that fishing will be successful during the first 2 weeks of December. In the mornings the bite is especially intense. The most popular trophies in winter are pike, crucian carp and roach. Quite often, in the reports of fishermen visiting Manych in winter, there are photographs of catfish.

Fishing places on Manych

There are a lot of fishing spots, so we won’t be able to look at everything, we’ll only discuss a few.

  1. The place where the Stavropol-Elista railway is located on top of this reservoir is famous for its special fishing successes. It was built in the narrowed, shallow-bottomed part of this water system, which is why the current is felt there. In this place, the coastal parts of the river are overgrown with reeds, and in order to fish here with a fishing rod and float, we look for clearings in them. They are small, about 2-3 meters wide. The water is cloudy, the hook often clings to reeds and sedges, so it is best to choose a thick main line, at least 0.25 mm, so that the hook, when twitching, catches the grass and cuts it. The fishing rod should be short (4-5m). Many, both visiting and local fishermen, give preference to equipment with a small inertial reel, which acts as a storage area for a supply of fishing line.
  2. You can also go fishing by boat in clean, reed-free places closer to the river bed, where the depth is -1.5 m. Although the depth is slightly greater than in the reed part, this difference is enough for fish and therefore in these places large fish bite more often, and besides this, the water here is not so cloudy. They are usually caught from a boat using a fly rod or a long-casting rod. When fishing with long casts, they often use the method of pulling the bait. To do this, you need to select a small hole in the area of the riverbed, anchor and cast, then start vertically relative to the current, gradually pulling the tackle towards you and stopping. You need to let the bait float above the bottom in the direction of the current, then pull it towards you again and let it float on its own. A zigzag-like line emerges. This wiring speeds up the search for a school of large roach, rudd or perch. When using such wiring, they usually install a float with a base made of balsa wood (it is easier for them to make all sorts of maneuvers, and it also flies well), the load is concentrated in one place, next to the short leash. The float is loaded under the antenna with a pad. A float equipped in this way responds very sensitively to bites.
  3. Most people fish with long casts, using bait as fry or small pieces of fish meat. Cut the meat into cubes. In this case, two types of float equipment are suitable. First: with the help of a sinker, the float is precisely lowered so that its upper part is on the surface of the water. The release of the float must be done so that the bait on the hook is 3-5 cm from the bottom and moves in accordance with the current. They usually use a main fixed sinker weighing 8-10g and, in addition to it, one or two additional ones weighing 0.5-1g for greater accuracy in loading the float. This type of equipment is no less suitable for catching predatory fish in mid-water. Second rig: the sinker weighs more than the float can lift. The latter can be on the water in a lying state, but after the fish bites and grabs the bait, it must noticeably move and oscillate on the surface. To do this, it must be weighed correctly in depth. Using such equipment, fishing can be easier, and the bait will always be on the bottom even if the depths change. Another rigging option: for loading, you can use a sliding “olive” weighing 10-15g, which needs to be secured with a small lead pellet or a leash snap. While dragging, the pellet will create a muddy path at the bottom level, which will most likely attract the attention of a predator.
  4. Near the Stavropol-Elista highway there are coastlines clear of reeds. In this place the river is deeper, so the bank is always full of milk miners. Due to the lack of reeds, these places are well suited for fishing with a plug and other float equipment.

Geographical information

The channel of the Eastern Manych, 141 km long, stretches along the valley in the form of ravines, shallow ruts and basins and is lost in the Caspian lowland. There are many salt lakes and salt marshes in the basin, which dry up by the end of summer, and their bottoms are covered with a snow-white crust of salts. The drainage basin area is 12,500 km². The food is predominantly snowy.

Eastern Manych is part of a system of reservoirs located in the Kuma-Manych depression. For a long time, the issue of the river's sources remained controversial. It was assumed that the Eastern Manych and Western Manych rivers had a common source and then separated. It was only in 1856 that academician K. M. Behr first pointed out that Western and Eastern Manychi were independent systems. The Manych depression reaches its greatest height (20 or so meters) in its central part (approximately from the village of Divnoye to the village of Zunda Tolga). On both sides of the watershed (to the north-west to the mouth of the Don and to the south-east to the lower reaches of the Kuma) the Manych depression decreases, which is why it is divided into Western Manych, which belongs to the basin of the Sea of Azov, and Eastern Manych, which belongs to the basin Caspian Sea. However, the Eastern Manych does not reach the Caspian Sea, but is lost in the Sostinsky lakes. In 1978, the Chograi discharge canal was built, connecting Eastern Manych and Kuma.

Until the 1970s, the immediate source of the river was the Kalaus River, which, reaching the Kuma-Manych depression, turns sharply to the east. A rare phenomenon was observed at Kalaus - the division of the river into two branches directed to different water systems. In high-water years or after heavy rains, Kalaus discharged water in two directions: mainly to the east - to Eastern Manych, and also to the west along a small channel towards Lake Manych-Gudilo. Approximately 30% of the Kalaus flow went to Western Manych, and 70% to Eastern.

The restructuring of the hydrographic network of the Kuma-Manych depression took place in 1965-1975: the Kuban-Kalaus canals and a dam at the mouth of the Kalaus River were built, blocking the flow of the Kalaus River into the East Manych River. In order to maintain the level of the eastern section of the Proletarsky reservoir, Kalaus was redirected to the Western Manych basin.

In 1969, the Chograi reservoir dam was built on Eastern Manych. The reservoir water is of low quality. They are mainly used for irrigation, non-potable water supply, and fish farming.

Tributaries of the river: Chograi, Golub, Raguli, Kalaus.

Some fishing reports

Good afternoon. Yesterday my godfather went to Manych in Sporny, fishing near the arrow in the area of the canal. The pecking started only around one o'clock, and ended at three. The perch kept biting on a small white spoon. Came across different sizes. Several times I pulled out something heavy, about 500 grams. The ice was about 10 centimeters. The road was good, we got there without any obstacles. There was a ton of people. I haven’t tried to catch a white one, so I can’t say anything about it.

Grade:

Greetings to all friends! I'll tell you where I caught it. Today I was in the Tuzluki area, or rather on the other side of the Manych lake - “a large fresh lake”. I caught crucian carp weighing 400 grams, and a slightly smaller ram, the size of a palm, weighed hard to say what it was. I caught it at a depth of 70 cm.

Grade:

Yesterday my matchmaker and I were below the Veselovsky elevator. The hybridos were pecking, tirelessly, it seemed, everything that was in the river was gathered here. True, I lost my temper many times because of the grass. The two of us caught 20 kg, fished from 8 to 15. We caught it with a worm.

Grade:

Greetings fishermen. On May 9th I went to the shipping canal with a friend. We started fishing at 10, and finished by 18. I caught 10 kg of hybridos, a slightly smaller one. There were a lot of people, I noticed that the fishing was excellent from boats. We caught fish with a worm on a feeder.

Grade:

At 7 am we arrived by ferry to the village of Besergeevka. Then from there we went towards the Dachny farm, and there was the Manych River. We caught 10-15 kilograms of crucian carp, a little ram, caught a perch, and caught one pike weighing 1.5 kg on a spinning rod. The weather was great! We had a wonderful time.
