Reservoirs of the Kursk region
Many rivers in the region belong to the Dnieper basin, much less often to the Don.
There are few large and long rivers: only Svala, Seym, Psel, Tuskar can boast a length of more than 100 km. There are 200 small rivers that are more than 10 km long. The rivers are fed mainly by snow, less by rain and groundwater. Therefore, in spring the water level is high, but in winter and summer it decreases greatly. A few lakes are located in river floodplains. They are narrow and long, since most often they are oxbow lakes - old riverbeds. But there are 785 artificial reservoirs in the region. The largest are the Kurskoye, Starooskolskoye, Kurchatovskoye, Mikhailovskoye reservoirs.
Features of fishing in the Kursk region
Fishermen come to collect their catch from one of the four large rivers and reservoirs. Some people prefer smaller bodies of water. A popular fishing spot is the lower reaches of the Seim River. In these places it is deep, with a large number of bays rich in fish. Come here to hunt for roach, rudd, perch, ide, crucian carp, and pike. Pike perch and chub can also be hooked, especially on the rifts. Catfish are rare, but maybe you'll get lucky? They fish here with a float rod, spinning rod, and donka.
Do you like lake fishing? The most fishy places are Fitizh. Malino, Makovye, fishermen here cannot get enough of the catch of carp, crucian carp, and pike. Lake Fitizh is especially popular. By the way, in the summer it becomes a little overgrown, but this does not affect the quality of fishing. Be careful: all lakes in the Seim River floodplain are located in state reserves. This means that during spawning there is a restriction on fishing: fish only from the shore and with a hook.
There are many options for paid fishing in the Kursk region. For example, the Truzhenik base offers fishing on a stocked pond with an area of 55 hectares. Here you can catch crucian carp, pike, carp, and perch. Fishing at the Shchigrovsky fish farm you will bring back a rich catch of carp, grass carp, roach, ruffe, pike, crucian carp and crayfish. Silver carp and catfish are found here. We also recommend relaxing on the ponds: Vorobzhansky, Nizhneye Gridino, etc.
Are you planning a vacation in the Kursk region? Don't waste your time: choose one of the fishing tours or a vacation at a fishing base on our website. We check the accuracy of the information posted, so your expectations will coincide with reality! Local fishermen will tell you about the legislation in the area, the status of the reservoir and fishing restrictions, if any. You can rent a boat or rent fishing equipment. If you have already returned from vacation, leave a review that will be useful to other fishermen.

- the width of the channel ranges from 10 to 100 meters;
- average depths are about 2–3 meters, maximum depths are up to 15 meters.
The Seim River originates in the Central Russian Upland. There are two versions regarding the exact location of the source of the reservoir:
- in the area of the village of Verkhoseimye, Manturovo district, Kursk region;
- near the Morozov farm in the Belgorod region of the Gubkinsky urban district.
Almost 65% of the Seim River basin area is in the Kursk region. Its valley is wide, the main rocks are chalk and limestone. The banks are hilly, in some places reaching a height of up to 40 meters. There are many ravines and ravines along the riverbed, and there are open and wooded areas.
In the upper reaches, the width of the Seim ranges from 10 to 20 meters
In the upper reaches the width of the Seim does not exceed 20 meters. In the middle reaches - from 40 to 80 meters. In the lower reaches the river overflows to 80–100 meters. The depths are also varied. On riffles - from 20 cm to a meter, on reaches and calm areas - 2-4 meters, there are holes and pools from 10 to 15 meters.
The river bed is winding, smoothly but noticeably “winding”, forming bends and pronounced turns. The current is mostly moderate, there are areas with rapids, and there are quiet reaches. The diet freezes at the end of November - beginning of December, opens at the end of March, less often at the beginning of April. The flood lasts until the end of May.
For reference! The Seim River is fed by snow.
In the Kurchatovsky district of the Kursk region, the Seim flows along an artificial channel created during the construction of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. There are many settlements on the banks of the reservoir, including Kursk, Solntsevo, Pryamitsyno, the Karl Liebknecht Village, Lgov, as well as Kudintsevo, Rylsk, Glushkovo, Zvannoye, Tetkino.
The Seim River flows through Russia and Ukraine and is a left tributary of the Desna
Within the Kursk region, the Seim River has 639 tributaries. From the left we can note:
- Seimitsa;
- Donetsk Seimitsa;
- Full;
- Reut;
- Strong;
- Snagost.
Among the right tributaries, the most significant are Leshchinka, Rat, Tuskar, Bolshaya Kuritsa, Svapa, Amonka. There are about 1000 lakes in the Seim basin. The main ones are Lezvino, Malino, Makovye, Fitizh.
For reference! The map shows that the main tributaries of the Seim in the Kursk region are the Svapa and Tuskar rivers.
The Seim riverbed forms many bends and smooth turns
The banks of the Seim are densely populated. Therefore, the reservoir is actively used for economic purposes, for example, for irrigation of agricultural land. The river is not navigable along its entire channel, as there are embankments and shoals along its length. It is necessary to check the routes annually and clean them, which is done irregularly.
Tourism in the Kursk region
If you want to devote time to sightseeing, we recommend going to Kursk: there are the most of them. A trip to Rylsk will also be interesting: the historical part of the city, which is several centuries old, is perfectly preserved. Also in Rylsk is the Intercession Cathedral - the largest cathedral in the region.
In the Rylsky district there is the Maryino estate, an estate that belonged to Hetman Mazepa and the Baryatinsky princes. Now this is one of the best sanatoriums in the country - the sanatorium of the Administration of the President of Russia. There is a museum at the sanatorium.
There are also many tourist and fishing bases in the region. Vacationers fish in paid reservoirs, ride on catamarans and boats, play paintball and tennis - they actively gain strength and have an interesting time.
Holidays at the Seimas
The Seim is a picturesque and comfortable river for relaxation, which many residents of the Kursk region like to visit. Some lovers go to stationary sites on the shore of a reservoir, while others prefer rafting tourism on kayaks, inflatable rafts or boats.
There are many picturesque places to relax on the Seim River
The best time for water tourism on the Seimas is summer, from July to August. During this period of the year, the banks of the reservoir are very crowded, so for those who love peace and solitude, it is advisable to choose another river or go to these places in spring or autumn.
Prilepy, Manturovo district
Thanks to its convenient location, Prilepy Pond attracts fishermen from all over the Kursk region. There is a highway near the pond, meaning it is impossible to get lost. Even those who go fishing for the first time will find the reservoir. It should be noted that there is a dirt road around the big water after leaving the highway, therefore, it will not be difficult to get to any place near the pond. In general, the pond is quite large, extended, and in some places it is also incredibly wide. In different places the coast can be flat, but in other places it can be steep and steep.
Mostly crucian carp live here, for which dough, worms, and maggots are best suited. Carp are best caught using corn, as well as worms and maggots. There are also silver carp here, the best bait for which is corn, always canned, green peas, and semolina. You can often catch white fish too.
Report
For quite a long time I dreamed of visiting Prilepa Pond, and even paid fishing, the cost of which was 200 rubles, did not discourage my desire. I decided on the place quite quickly, chose dense thickets of reeds, between which a place was prepared. I used pea mixture as feed, and only corn was useful as bait. At the end of the fishing, there were nine carp in the cage, each weighing approximately a kilogram. And we can’t help but be pleased with the main trophy of the day, grass carp, which weighs more than one and a half kilograms. I want to say that I caught this fish for the first time, so the positive emotions from the trip remained for the next day. The fishing was completely worth all the costs.
Fishing shops in Kursk
Not all fishermen come to the region prepared; many are invited to fish completely unexpectedly. In order not to ask for everything you need for fishing, you can simply go to the store and buy what you like. Kursk stores will offer a wide range of fishing gear and everything you need to independently equip various forms.
For fishing in Kuzkino to go without incident, you should first visit:
- Trophy store on the street. Sumskoy;
- fishing store on the street. Red Army;
- Fishing goods on the street. Verkhnyaya Lugovaya;

Paid fishing
As already mentioned, in general, there are many reservoirs in the Kursk region, some of which do not require payment for fishing, and in some of them fishing is paid.
Znamenka
Among professional fishermen, one of the favorite places is the Znamenka reservoir, located in the Kursk region. By the way, amateurs often visit this place. The place is popular not only for fishing, but also because you can simply relax there and relax away from the city. It is not difficult to get to the reservoir; it is located near the village of Znamenka, Medvensky district.
There is a great variety of different fish in the reservoir:
- Rudd
- Burbot
- crucian carp
- Asp
- Roach
- Pike
- Carp
- Chub
- Gustera
- Ide
- Zander
- Som
- Perch
- Bream
- Grass pike
Recommended gear is a spinning rod and a float rod. Bait should be chosen according to the season; the best results are shown by canned peas and corn, worms and maggots, as well as dough with semolina.
Pond Trinity
The water here has not been drained for nine years, which means that a really large specimen can be hooked. This reservoir is replenished with up to half a kilogram of carp every year. Examination of water, fish and even sludge is carried out regularly. It’s easy to guess that the water is quite clean and, of course, suitable for fish farming. The fishing season opens in early April and ends in autumn. Almost any place is suitable for fishing and the choice of places is great. Lanterns have been installed for night fishing enthusiasts. In general, the entire coastline is constantly cleared of debris.
Use as bait
- semolina,
- dough,
- worm
- peas,
- corn,
- potato.
The Troitsk reservoir contains the following fish species:
- Hungarian carp, still a small fish.
- Perch
- crucian carp
- Roach
- White amur
- Silver carp
- Tench
- Sturgeon
- Carp
This reservoir is located twenty kilometers from Kursk in the village of Troitsa. Finding it is not difficult along the entire highway and there are signs after the exit. After leaving the highway, you need to drive along a dirt road for no more than three kilometers until the reeds appear, this will be Trinity Pond.
To avoid driving on a dirt road, before reaching the village, you can turn 5 kilometers along an asphalt road and get to the big water.
Even minibuses lead to the reservoir.
Pond Zhiten
In this small pond, most often crucian carp from three hundred grams are caught. There are also trophy specimens weighing more than one kilogram. Carp, which can weigh up to seven kilograms, is also often caught.
The bait here all year round is dung and earthworm. Semolina with peas, semolina and corn also show good results. Some vegetable baits should be used in late May, early June.
If there is no boat, then it is best to stay closer to the dam. The farther from it, the more the shore is overgrown with bushes and reeds, that is, there is a high probability of snags and slips in those areas. But these places are quite suitable for fishing from a boat.
The cost of fishing here during the day is five hundred rubles, at night the cost increases by three hundred rubles, that is, eight hundred rubles at night.
Getting to the reservoir is not difficult; along the main road to Sudzha, you need to turn left at the Nizhneye Gridino sign, and after a couple of kilometers of the asphalt road large water will appear.
The Kursk Sea is back in service
Revival of a half-century-old project
07/18/2017 at 16:09,
The implementation of the Kursk Reservoir project began in the late seventies of the last century. Back then, when it was laid out solely for strategic reasons, no one thought that its implementation would take four decades.
Excursion into history
Initially, the plans were grandiose. The artificial reservoir was supposed to be about 15 kilometers long, which threatened about two dozen nearby villages with flooding.
The resettlement began almost immediately, the first (and in fact the only) to fall under it was the now non-existent village of Vyrki, for whose residents a new residential area was built in the village of Kamyshi, Kursk region. After successful cleanup of the area and construction of the dam, the reservoir began to be filled, but the water began to approach private areas too quickly, located outside the planned flood zone.
Resolving the issue of the inadmissibility of sudden flooding in the shortest possible time, the only correct path was chosen - to deepen the reservoir, simultaneously dealing with the resettlement of potentially dangerous villages. It is difficult to say for sure what caused the delay in providing housing for the likely “drowned”, but the collapse of the Soviet Union stopped construction almost completely. The entire infrastructure had already been created, the bottom continued to be deepened, but the main idea of the project was forgotten.
In the early to mid-nineties, dredgers almost non-stop washed sand from the bottom, from which a huge mountain gradually grew, vaguely reminiscent of a waste heap. Plus, the original bottom topography has changed greatly - many shallows have appeared far from the shore, and closer to it many holes have formed, often very deep. By the beginning of the 2000s, not a trace remained of the former greatness of this place - all the washed-up sand was taken out, the dredgers and draglines rusting idle were sawed right on the spot and most likely disposed of as ferrous metal.
Swimming is prohibited
Due to its proximity to the city, the reservoir was never empty in the summer. The swimming season spontaneously opened in May, and ended no earlier than mid-September.
From year to year there were a huge number of vacationers there, and for this reason there were often problems even with parking cars nearby. Our people are famous for their indifference to everything that surrounds them, and the sea was no exception - the entire shore was daily filled with garbage that no one even thought of collecting. Subbotniks only partially improved the situation, because it was physically impossible to remove everything. Carrying waste with you is considered bad manners in our society, and not throwing cigarette butts is considered funny. Can you imagine a group of young people drinking alcohol and putting cigarette butts in their pockets? But such connivance will definitely not turn out to be anything good for the fauna of the reservoir.
There is no place in the region that could see more entrepreneurs. Over the years, you could see a lot of things there: beer stalls, various variations of catering establishments, and attempts to rent out boats and jet skis. Indeed, just like on the sea coast.
By the way, this place has another informal name. Residents of the surrounding area have long called it Balaton and even years later very often insist on this particular option, being disgusted by the phrase Kursk Sea, which is familiar to most people. It makes no sense to analyze the etymology of the word, because the secret is in drawing a parallel with another famous body of water. The word, which grates on the ears of the uninitiated, does not carry any semantic meaning at all, but was merely borrowed from Hungary.

Entry into the area for selling and feeding live fish is permitted only on foot according to the organization’s work schedule. Cars and other personal vehicles are left in the parking area.
To catch live fish in the feeding area, the Buyer occupies a sector 10 meters wide. You are allowed to use any 2 rods (no more than 3 hooks on each) and a personal landing net. Carrying tubes, backpacks, and bags into the catching sector is prohibited.
To lure fish, the Buyer can use his own bait on the hook - a worm, maggot, canned grains and legumes, as well as bait mixtures.
During the time approved for self-catching, the Buyer can catch an unlimited number of live fish, free it from the hook and immediately place it in the organization’s coastal fish tank.
For violation of this requirement and causing damage to the organization, the Buyer may be removed from the feeding area. No refunds will be given.

Seim River
One of the largest tributaries of the well-known Desna River is the Seim. Its length is approximately 700 kilometers. The river is quite popular among fishermen. Due to the purity of the water and the absence of strong currents, you can often meet both experienced fishermen and amateurs on its banks. Considering the length of the river, it is not difficult to guess that there are many different fish present here.
Reports
- On May 20, I went to the river with a donkey feeder and a picker, using corn, a worm and maggot as bait. Arriving at the river, I settled down in my favorite place, fortunately it was not occupied. I threw 8 feeders about fifty meters away and waited for a bite. The weather was just right for fishing, quite warm and partly cloudy, with only occasional light rain getting in the way. In the first few hours there were practically no results, only a couple of silver bream and perches were caught. And then, after some time, a serious bite occurred; I could barely hold the feeder in my hands. After some leisurely fishing, I found a large crucian carp on a hook close to the shore, with an approximate weight of 1 kilogram. Quite a bit of time passed and there was another similar bite, but this time the line caught the edge of a shell and broke, and the catch was gone. Then there was silence for a long time, and occasionally there was a small change. After the next feeding, the reservoir seemed to come to life, there were about ten bites in total, I caught several bream, and there were a couple of unpleasant encounters. In general, the fishing was a success, although the bites were rare, but they were quite strong. The result of the day spent fishing was a catch weighing from three to five kilograms, the trophy turned out to be a kilogram of crucian carp, and we were also pleased with bream weighing half a kilogram, six hundred and eight hundred grams.
- On May 14, with several donks, I went to the river with maggots, semolina, peas, corn and dung beetles. In the morning I arrived at the river, the weather was excellent, about ten degrees Celsius. The water was clear and there was practically no wind. I quickly found a place and spent some time decorating it. I spent a little time on all this. Half an hour later I started preparing the gear, the six-gram float flew first, but it was clearly not useful and therefore I had to relieve myself. First in line was corn, which, unfortunately, was not effective. I replaced it with maggot and immediately caught quite a good roach with ease. The bites followed one after another, but the joy did not last long, as I caught roach and silver bream the size of a finger. There were no bites on semolina and peas. The trophy fish did not want to get on my hook. In general, the day did not go very well, soon even little things stopped coming across and there was silence.
