Astrakhan, savage fishing: where to go? Photos and descriptions of fishing spots

The Volga Delta in Astrakhan is a pearl of Russian nature. Before reaching the Caspian Sea, the river splits into many small rivers and eriks, forming huge shallow expanses. The water area, which is more than 200 kilometers wide, consists of water masses interspersed with numerous reed islands. Residents of Astrakhan call this amazing geographical feature the rumbles of the Caspian Sea.

Every year thousands of tourists, avid fishermen and hunters flock here. When planning an active holiday, you need to decide in advance where to go fishing in Astrakhan. There are plenty of beautiful and picturesque places, as well as good trophy fish that can be caught all year round.

Astrakhan region

The Astrakhan region is rich in water resources. It stretches on both sides of the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain and occupies an area of more than 40,000 m2. The nature of this region is very diverse - from desert flat landscapes, which give way to meadows and forests, to the only mountain in these places, Big Bogdo.

Wildlife fishing in Astrakhan is possible due to the abundance of water sources that have not yet been captured by tourist centers. Fishing tourism is the most profitable and popular way of recreation in this region. Many places are very picturesque. For example, the Volga delta is home to more than 280 species of birds and the rare beauty of the lotus flower grows, the plantation of which occupies almost 5,000 hectares.

The climate is favorable for visiting Astrakhan. Wild fishing (where you go doesn’t matter) in winter at an average temperature of -12 is just as conducive to your favorite pastime as at +30 in the summer. The only month unsuitable for fishing is June, since at this time there is such an invasion of midges that people don’t even want to leave their houses, much less live in tents near the water.

Otherwise, this is a very hospitable and friendly region, where even an experienced tourist will enjoy wild fishing. There are enough places in Astrakhan and the region where you can set up a camp and create sufficiently comfortable conditions for long-term living in tents.

Savage or civilization

Like all travelers, fishermen are divided into those who value comfort even when engaging in their favorite hobby and therefore choose camp sites and those for whom the catch and complete independence are more important. The last thing to do is fishing with savages. In Astrakhan there is enough space for this, you don’t even have to go far from the city.

But experienced fishermen know that the farther a body of water is from large populated areas, the calmer and better the bite is. Today, more and more people prefer to relax away from civilization. There are several reasons for this:

  • firstly, the cost of living at a camp site is quite high;
  • secondly, it is sometimes difficult to get to them, since the roads are not paved everywhere, and some need to be reached by ferry or boat;
  • thirdly, being tied to one place, which affects the quality of the catch in conditions of fierce competition from the same comfort lovers.

That is why, when fishermen choose Astrakhan (savage fishing) as their destination, where to go does not matter much. You can change places at least every day, since this region is rich in both reservoirs and fish in them.

Confluence of Akhtuba, Ashuluk and Kharabalyk

The reservoirs of the Astrakhan region abound with catfish, pike, pike perch, tench and other varieties of fish, sometimes their numbers depend on the time of year. There are so-called pike places, there are catfish pits, and in the fall the asp fishes well.

With such an abundance of fish, the old-timers consider the confluence of three rivers – Akhtuba, Ashuluk and Kharabalyk – to be one of the best places. In this floodplain you can easily catch 70-100 kilograms of catfish or 7 kilograms of carp, which is why there are numerous tourist centers here that heavily advertise such a fishing paradise as Astrakhan. Fishing as a savage (the photo below will clearly demonstrate where to go) in such an overpopulated region is only possible at a distance from civilization.

If you drive 30-40 kilometers from the regional center of Kharabali, the shores begin to empty, and you can find a parking lot, and there are more fish here. Old-timers say that fishing near tourist centers is hard work, as there are a lot of competitors. Therefore, many fishermen prefer not only to save tens of thousands of rubles by bypassing holiday homes, but also to get results from their hobby in the form of a big catch.

What kind of fish can be caught in the Astrakhan region

This area is characterized by the presence of fish species from the European part of the Russian Federation. Trophy specimens often swim in local rivers, but there is also plenty of small ichthyofauna. Fishermen can rejoice in catching the following species:

  • Pike;
  • crucian carp;
  • Carp;
  • Bream;
  • Rotana;
  • Carp;
  • Rudds;
  • Bersha;
  • Pike perch;
  • Bream;
  • Gusters;
  • Minnow;
  • Podleschika;
  • Roaches.

The list can still be replenished, but it makes no sense. All the species that are found in the Astrakhan region can be listed endlessly. That's why we've compiled a list of the most commonly found species at marked fishing spots.

Buzan River

46 kilometers north of Astrakhan flows the Buzan River, a branch of the Volga, well known for its abundance of fish and excellent parking areas. Catfish, pike, carp, bream, asp, perch, grass carp and other types of fish are found here. The banks of this river are replete with beaches and shallows, comfortably located among thickets of alder and willow.

When going fishing in these places, you should know that, although the length of Buzan is only 102 km, it is a high-water and fast river, so you need to follow water safety precautions. There are catfish pits in it, and it is better to catch this fish in the shallows, where it comes out at night to hunt. Catfish bite well on large bunches of worms, rotten meat or frogs.

These places are no less popular for catching carp, for which experienced fishermen come for several days. This cautious fish must first be fed in order to really catch a worthy specimen. The peculiarity of hunting for carp is the water temperature - in cold water it is better suited for bait with animal odors, for example, blood or worm, and in warm water, experienced fishermen use boilies with the aroma of fruit.

This river is not replete with tourist centers, so the best fishing in Astrakhan takes place here, where you can go wild at any time of the year.

Kigach River

This branch, flowing in the lower reaches of the Volga River, has everything for excellent fishing: the absence of noisy camp sites, banks surrounded by greenery for convenient parking, and an abundance of fish.

For those who like to try biting in different places and have a motor boat, there is a choice here: the Akhtuba River with its famous Dzhanai catfish hole flows in a five-minute drive, and Buzan in a twelve-minute drive. Anyone interested in savage fishing in Astrakhan in April-May will be interested in the fact that pike, buffalo, herring, ram, roach and saberfish are caught on the Kigach River during this period. In June, fishermen (who are not afraid of midges) can expect perch, carp, catfish, asp and bream. From July to November is the most fishing period, when you can catch almost all species that are found in the Volga delta.

Where and when to catch pike

Pike feed all year round, and there is always a chance of catching it - almost anywhere and at any time. But in order for this probability to be high, you need to know where and when to catch the toothy predator.

There are three periods of pike activity during the year:

  • pre-spawning glutton;
  • post-spawning zhor;
  • period of increased nutrition before winter.

The spawning period in the Astrakhan region begins in mid-April and ends in mid-June. During this period, government agencies prohibit full fishing for pike, like any other type of fish. Therefore, the most promising time for pike fishing will be:

  • the period from the release of the reservoir from ice until mid-April;
  • end of June;
  • autumn with the peak season in October.

The toothy predator prefers places in water bodies with little current. Therefore, in the case of the Astrakhan Territory, two directions for pike fishing are possible:

  • the bed of the Volga - holes, entrances and exits from them, edges, dumps, spits;
  • rolling part of the Volga delta.

Ashuluk River

Fans of fishing with a float and feeder will love the Akhtuba Ashuluk sleeve. The river is shallow, on average 3-4 m, although there are holes from 8 to 20 m, and does not have a fast current, so it is absolutely safe for fishing from a boat. These places especially attract hunters of predators - pike, pike perch and asp, which are found here in abundance.

To catch the king of the deep, you need to know when the best catfish fishing is. Astrakhan, where it is preferable to go in the fall for this, is the best option to easily catch specimens weighing 30-50 kg. There is no better place for this than the confluence of the Ashuluk and Akhtuba rivers. In the fall, frogs enter the water here en masse for the winter, which lures catfish out of their depths. The main requirement for successful fishing is silence.

In addition to catfish, Ashuluk is home to such large pike perch that they can be considered worthy trophies. There are few camp sites on the river, so finding a parking spot is not difficult.

Places for free fishing in the Astrakhan region

Near the village of Enotaevka there is a Sudachya pit, which is chosen by beginners and professionals. To catch fish, you need to go downstream. Take jig equipment with you, and your fishing will end more than successfully.

If you are a fan of spinning fishing, then visit the hole at Kapitansky. It is easy to catch silver carp in the fall. Sometimes trophy pike perch and bersh are found.

There is another wonderful place on Enotaevka - Truba. If you have an echo sounder, you can easily determine the edges. You can pull pike perch, pike and garfish out of the depths.

And finally, visit the Perovsky backwater. An interesting coastal edge makes this place incredibly promising for fishing. Its depth is about 15 meters, where pike perch and bersh swim.

Fishing on the Volga

To experience the real drive of what you love, you should go to Astrakhan. Fishing as a savage (where to go is a secondary question) will allow you to fully appreciate the surrounding beauty and abundance of this region, and set your own personal record.

The Volga and Akhtuba rivers are the most popular, especially in places at a sufficient distance from populated areas. Here you can find wild campsites and join them. There are enough excellent beaches on the Volga for parking, and fish are found here in such quantities that they can be caught all year round. The places near the village of Rechnoy are especially popular.

Volga Delta

The largest number of fishing camps are concentrated here, but the lower Volga is divided into so many tributaries and branches that finding a parking place is not difficult. Fishing is especially good here in the fall. In September, the feeding season begins for asp, pike perch and perch, and bream is caught on the bottom.

October-November is the time for bersh, pike perch and carp. They hide on the rifts and in the bottom layers. If anyone is interested in asp, in the fall it goes deeper, so it is recommended to catch it with a donkey. By this time, the pike is gaining weight, and specimens weighing 9 kilograms or more are not uncommon. It should be caught in the reed thickets along the shore. Carp is also good at this time.

Winter fishing is no less popular in the Volga delta. The main catch is roach, sop, pike perch and bream. The Kamyzyaksky and Ikryaninsky districts are especially popular among fishermen.
