Fishing report: Dnieper near Bykhov 2

People who hear “fishing in Mogilev” immediately imagine fishing on the Dnieper. But this is not entirely true. Even if there are not many places for fishing within the city, there are plenty of them in the area. At the same time, almost all the fish that are found throughout Belarus are caught here.

I would like to admit that fishing in the Mogilev region on the Dnieper within the city limits will not always bring the expected results if you do not find a more or less decent place for this process. The main species found here are breams, silver breams and roaches. Fishing with the following bait will be excellent: pearl barley, shells, leeches, some even manage to catch roach using polystyrene foam. And, of course, standard baits, including worms, maggots, and semolina.

Lure

What else is needed for fishing in Mogilev on the Dnieper to be successful? You need to know that pearl barley, peas or millet are perfect as bait. You just need to feed them in advance. At the same time, there are people who easily catch burbot, catfish, chub and pike perch even within the city. Sometimes you can also catch a perch with a pike, but not everywhere and very rarely.

In the Bykhov area

In June it is good to fish with a feeder in the morning. As soon as you move the feeder to the chosen point, your nerves immediately hit the spring: something is tugging at the nozzle *connie*. And hearing, sight, and touch are ready for a fight with the mighty bream. By all indications, you understand that it is not bream. But what if? A ruffe or white-eye, a silver bream appears from the water. There is no bream, as if not, the north wind begins to blow instead, in which it is pointless to catch anything in these places. In August people enjoy trolling and fishing on the path. There is a photo of a pike perch weighing 9 kilos. It is not written where he was caught, but experts guessed by the location - in the Bykhov area.

Fishing places

Of course, it’s great to know good places where certain fish bite on the Dnieper, but this only works when the rivers of Mogilev are on their banks. At the beginning of summer and spring (when they flood), even “healers” and specialists are often left without a catch. They also say that within the city limits on the Dnieper, fishing on weekends is much worse, while it is simply excellent in the middle of the week. This can only be explained by the fact that there are plenty of fishermen in Mogilev, therefore, a huge amount of bait ends up in the river on weekends. In addition, fishing is disturbed by car noise from bridges and many motor boats.

Fishing in Mogilev improves significantly if you travel 15-20 kilometers from the city limits downstream - at this point the river becomes much deeper and calmer. This is where you can catch a real trophy catfish, not to mention just a rich catch.

Fishing in the region's reservoirs

Fishing in the Mogilev region is often more productive than fishing within the city limits. There are several reservoirs that are always popular with local and visiting anglers at any time of the year.

Sozh

The Sozh River originates in Russia in the Smolensk region. In the upper reaches it is a very small water artery with a width of 10 to 30 m. Flowing through the territory of Belorui, the reservoir significantly increases in size. In the Mogilev region, its width is about 250 m, and its depths can reach six meters.

This river is considered one of the cleanest in Europe, since along its entire length there are no industrial enterprises or large settlements. Having visited Sozh, you can excellently catch both peaceful and predatory fish. Throughout the entire period of open water, you can meet spinning fans here. If you manage to choose the right artificial bait and type of fishing, then in a morning you can catch about a dozen pikes, the average weight of which ranges from one to three kilograms.

Armed with ultralight spinning tackle, you can always count on catching a perch weighing 200–600 g. The striped predator prefers to peck on small vibrating tails 5–7 cm long, mounted on a jig head weighing 4–7 g. In the coastal zone, it can often be seduced by:

  • wobblers such as “shad” or “crank”, which go half a meter from the surface;
  • rotating spoons No. 0–2;
  • a variety of surface baits.

The best time for fishing for perch on the river is August–September. It is during this period that you can count on catching a trophy specimen.

On a note! Catching asp on Sozh can also be very interesting. Experienced spinning anglers regularly catch fish weighing 3–4 kg.

Summer is the most favorable season for fishing this predator. It should be noted that the best asp bait on a pond is considered to be a popper.

Drut

The Drut River is one of the tributaries of the Dnieper and is characterized by a highly winding channel and low flow speed. The bottom of the reservoir is quite flat and only at sharp turns do holes form, which are a haven for many underwater inhabitants.

The banks of the Druti are steep, so there are very few convenient approaches to the water. The bottom is sandy, but in some areas there are rocky rifts. In the river you can catch:

  • bream;
  • silver bream;
  • roach;
  • perch;
  • asp;
  • soma;
  • ide;
  • chub;
  • pike.

The bulk of “white” fish is caught in the spring. For fishing, both Bolognese and feeder tackle are used. The most catchy bait is considered to be a worm and large maggots. If the fisherman managed to collect caddisfly larvae at the bottom of the reservoir, then this bait will be beyond competition.

Fishing competitions using float gear are regularly held in the vicinity of Mogilev.

In summer, chub and asp are actively caught on the river. Of all fishing lures, local predators prefer small floating wobblers of the “minnow” class. If we are talking about fly fishing, then streamers of dark colors with a length of 4 to 10 cm will be more effective.

Pike, perch and catfish begin to feed intensively when the water cools down to 15 degrees. The peak season for these predators occurs in the second half of September and October.

On a note! During the freeze-up period on Druti, girder fishing and fishing with winter artificial baits are very effective.

Chigirinskoye Reservoir

The Chigirinskoye reservoir in the Mogilev region is famous for its record numbers of pike. News about the capture of a toothy predator weighing more than 12 kg regularly comes from this reservoir. Such individuals ignore small baits and are more often caught on crankbaits and wobblers with a length of at least 20 cm. In winter, they are caught on jig tackle, using roach or perch weighing 60–80 g as live bait. In addition to pike, you can catch here:

  • asp;
  • crucian carp;
  • bream;
  • roach;
  • silver bream;
  • pike perch.

In the fall, the trophies of spinning anglers are often catfish weighing up to 20 kg, which respond to jig baits intended for fishing for pike perch. Larger mustachioed predators prefer to peck at quok. In this case, the bait is a crawler, a frog or a small asp.

Fishing in Mogilev and its environs will be of interest to both fans of fishing with a float and feeder, and spinning anglers. Many fishing spots can be easily reached by car.

in spring

It is worth immediately noting that it takes about two months from the complete melting of the ice to the absolute restoration of the river level. In May, there are floods in the fields of the Dnieper, and the old-timers know exactly where to find depths suitable for casting from the coast. The fish are quite hungry at this time of year; bream respond even to simple plant bait. In calm conditions, large individuals hunt for mosquitoes and midges swarming above the water. The fishermen promise that fishing in Mogilev will be near Bykhov, downstream just below the village. Enter at the very end of Bykhov, behind the outer buildings, turn left, then straight to the beach, then right along the oxbow and the shore.

In summer

If you are set on bream fishing, then you need to know that at the beginning of the season you can catch quite large bream, but after spawning they are unlikely to be fleshy. Night fishing in June is wonderful. A sharp, incomparable splash of pike perch on the river invigorates you quite strongly, like a blow from a whip, and at the same time makes you completely forget about time. In July, the catfish bite also lives up to expectations. At the same time, there are opinions that in the pits in Mogilev near the River Port, at the Gubichsky cordon, in Zhary and in some other places there is a large fish that does not respond to bait at all. Many people think that July is not the best time for fishing.

in autumn

October caresses fishermen with mild sunshine, but at the same time sometimes brings clouds with the wind. The fish are exactly the same - they just easily took the bait, but literally an hour later they don’t take anything. Absolutely everything that the traveling arsenal allows and experience advises is used. But often to no avail. Although, as experienced people say, if you don’t catch it from the shore, try from a boat.

If you fail on a spinning rod, prepare a feeder. At the same time, properly fished holes can yield excellent pike, suggest fishermen who have visited the village of Lyado. While in the village of Rudnya Kamenevaya, despite convenient access to the river, you need to use passion and all your patience in order to lure the toothy one onto the hook. Very large pikes are caught near Zhlobin in November.

And in the reports they write that:

– In the Loyev region, bream are as round as a large frying pan. They are caught using a sandwich of worms, maggots and foam. You need it on a feeder; spinning rods are not suitable for such bream. – In August, near Komarino, it happens that at noon you are looking for shelter from the heat. And you realize that it’s not just you. It didn’t bite in the sun, but under the bridge or under the bushes blow after blow - For those who want to fish on the Dnieper for the first time, they advise visiting Zhlobin or Streshino. Just right in these places there will be a boat without a motor, a float or a spinning rod, and from the shore - a feeder. Fishing on the Dnieper: SPRING SUMMER AUTUMN WINTER

Winter fishing in Mogilev

In December, ice on the river drives fish into the oxbow lakes. And this is normal. At the same time, in the Asarevichi bays, you can put the fishing rod aside and simply lower the fishing line with the devil into the hole. It is interesting to pull out perches in this way, although, as a rule, they are small. Near Rudnya Kameneva and on the Aleksandrovskaya oxbow, scoring roach is also lifted from the holes using pellets. Ice hunting enthusiasts return to the river in January. And now more serious battles are being played out here.

Almost everyone has donkey fishing rods, and everyone has their own preferences. Near the village of Skepnya, pike and perch are caught by hand and at stakes. Although it is not easy to get here, an exceptionally strong jeep can pass freely. February gives rise to doubts about the quality of ice for many. It is worth noting that the fishing fraternity is very responsive. It responds instantly on the Internet, otherwise you won’t know where the ice is strong and where it’s not so strong. Another February feature is that since things are approaching warming, the entire river microfauna comes to life, after which bloodworms become an irrelevant bait.

Ask a Question

These are not all reservoirs where fishing is carried out constantly. Catching trophy specimens here does not stop either in open water or after freeze-up.
