Fishing reports 2021 (brief)

Fishermen will especially enjoy holidays in the Altai Territory. Barnaul is the administrative center of Barnaul, located in the southern part of Western Siberia, with a population of about 825,000 people. The total length of the rivers of the Altai Territory is 51,004 km. The Ob River, formed by the junction of the Biya and Katun, attracts lovers of active recreation. Fishing also occurs on its tributaries: Northern Sosva, Alei, Chumysh, Bolshoy Yugan, Chulym, Charysh. Fishing in Barnaul and its environs in the summer is especially productive; the catch is very diverse, from predators to peaceful fish.

Climatic conditions

In Barnaul it is very hot in summer, consistently frosty in winter, and there is little precipitation. Due to the arrival of air masses with different temperatures that come from the Altai Mountains, the Arctic Ocean and the semi-desert regions of Central Asia, the weather in the city is characterized as contrasting. The coldest month of the year is January, with average temperatures at -17.5 °C. But July is considered the warmest month, the air temperature is +19.8 °C.

The humidity level in the cold season is in the range of 73-76%, and in the warm season – almost 62%. Atmospheric air mainly moves in the southwest, west and south. Cloudy weather is more typical in autumn; in other seasons it is clear and sunny.

Chuya River

A popular place with some special features. Firstly, this river is famous all over the world due to the annual rafting competitions that are held here. Secondly, almost all year round the water is not clean at all, but rather cloudy and not at all attractive. Thirdly, this is where the famous Siberian grayling lives. From August to mid-October, experienced fishermen come here to catch a worthy trophy. It is during this period that the water level in the river drops and it becomes clear.

Best places

To always have a catch, you need to know where to fish in Barnaul, which places are the most promising.

Talaya River

The length of the Ob River channel is 13.1 km, its width is 10-50 m. The depth range is 2-6 m. The reservoir is located 7 km from Barnaul. Thanks to transport accessibility and amazing natural landscapes, local residents and city guests often relax here. The banks are mostly flat, in some places steep.

Talaya River

The bottom of the channel is predominantly muddy, with some muddy-sandy areas. Fishing here is active not only in open water, but it is also a place where you can organize ice hunting. Fishing objects include pike, perch, bream, bleak, burbot, as well as pike perch, chebak, ruffe, dace and others. The only thing is that it is not often possible to meet a large predator on the channel.

Pravdinskoye Reservoir

50 km from the city of Barnaul in the village of Berezovka there is the Pravdinskoye Reservoir. Fishing here is a pleasure; the territory occupies almost 40 hectares.

Pravdinskoye Reservoir

The diverse underwater world is simply amazing, you can find:

  • grayling;
  • peled;
  • bream;
  • zander;
  • trout;
  • roach;
  • carp;
  • pike;
  • tench;
  • carp and others.

The undeniable advantage of fishing on a reservoir is the absence of any fee. Both novice fishing enthusiasts and masters of their craft hunt here.

Fedulovskaya channel

Another name for the channel is Povalikhinskaya. You can find it near Kislukha and Povalikha. Fishing targets mainly include bream, white bream, perch, pike and crucian carp.

Pike from the Fedulovskaya channel

To catch fish, it is not necessary to prepare special gear and select a time; you can plan a hunt on any day and using the simplest fishing rods. The abundance of fish in the reservoir allows you to enjoy all the delights of this type of recreation and leave with a rich catch.

Chase

The best place to go fishing is on the rocks, where predators (pike, perch, ruffe) live and there are bream, crucian carp, sorog, and carp. A good catch, according to local fishermen, is obtained on the opposite bank from Gonba.

Vyatka River

You can hunt with hooks, feeder gear, and descenders. It is best to cast 40-50 m from the shore.

“Right Paw” and the Losikha River

The Gulf of Ob can be found just behind the railway bridge, near the Old Bridge. A few kilometers from the highway there is a bend in the Losikha River, where bream is excellently caught. You can also fish at the mouth, but the catch will consist of small fish.

Losikha River

Fishermen visit this place often, in any weather. Unlike lure fishermen, who survey the entire bay, crucian fish fishermen choose one specific area, where they place their craft on poles and feed the area. You can also catch crucian carp from the shore using hooks equipped with feeders. Their number often reaches 10 pieces, they are placed along the water's edge.

Rasskasikha and Bobrovka

Near these villages, lovers of active recreation actively fish on the Anichikha River and the Ob channel. Most often, the objects of fishing are bream and the toothy beast - pike.

Bobrovka River

Here you need to know one thing - the further you are from the villages, the higher the chances of catching large individuals.

Flow curve

You should go fishing to the village of Zudilovo and gardening in Melnikovo. The outcome of this event here will directly depend on the water level; if there is a flood period, then you should not count on a catch.

Curve river channel

It is recommended to plan your vacation in the fall, when the water recedes. You can successfully catch crucian carp in the pits. The optimal time for fishing on the Crooked Channel is June-August.

Lake Eraska

The reservoir is located near the federal highway Barnaul-Rubtsovsk (Zmeinogorsky tract). If you move from Barnaul to the lake, then you need to head to the village of Buranovo.

Fishing in the Altai Territory

There will be a reservoir 4 km from it on the right side of the road. Here the catch will mainly consist of crucian carp.

What kind of fish is found in Altai reservoirs

The Altai Mountains differs from other regions not only in its fascinating nature, but also in the variety of fish species that live in the local rivers and lakes. And the fish here surprise with their size. Some visiting fishermen, who, out of ignorance, did not properly prepare their gear, look with surprise at the torn end of the fishing line after the first bite. Yes, there really are “monsters” here and they bite quite often. Fishing in Altai amazes with the species diversity of fish. So, what trophy can you get in this region:

  • Taimen is the largest underwater inhabitant in these places, representing the salmon family. Most often, individuals weighing up to 5 kg are caught on the hook, but there have been cases of catching 1.5-meter giants whose weight exceeded 50 kg. On the Internet you can see many photos of such trophy specimens. Taimen are found in almost all major rivers of the Altai Territory, as well as in Lake Teletskoye. They live at the bottom of deep holes, and come out to the shallows only in the late evening and at night to feed themselves. In shallow river areas and near populated areas, it is impossible to catch this fish for the reason that it simply isn’t there. Taimen is very careful and never takes unnecessary risks; to catch it, proper camouflage and silence will be required. Usually this predator is caught on a spinning rod, using oscillating spoons, wobblers, and artificial mice as bait. Small taimen are often caught on a fly when fishing for grayling.
  • Peled is a lake commercial fish that is grown artificially in some reservoirs of the Ulagan region. The second name is cheese. It grows up to 40-45 cm and gains weight up to a kilogram. Peled is both a commercial object and an object of recreational fishing. You can catch it with bloodworms, maggots, worms, shellfish meat, and in winter it takes well with a jig with or without bait.
  • Trout is the dream of most anglers. This is a worthy opponent, offering strong resistance when fought. Those who catch trout for the first time are sincerely surprised where a 30-centimeter fish gets such strength. In the Altai Republic there are two varieties of trout – lake trout and rainbow trout (trout and mykiss). You can enjoy catching them on the Uykaratash lakes, trout lakes in the village of Urozhainoye (Soviet district), on Lake Darashkol, as well as in the upper reaches of the Pyzha River.
  • Grayling is a nimble fish with a beautiful dorsal fin reminiscent of a peacock's tail. It lives almost everywhere, even in shallow streams. Usually these are individuals weighing up to 300 g, but in the same Lake Teletskoye there are also 2-kilogram trophies. Grayling is caught using earthworms, artificial and natural flies, various insects, and narrow rotating spoons.
  • Lenok (uskuch) - looks like taimen, but is significantly superior to it in taste. This is a fairly large representative of the Altai ichthyofauna, gaining weight up to 6 kilograms. Unfortunately, it is caught extremely rarely due to its scarcity. Lenok is listed in the Red Book of Altai, so after being caught and photographed for a fishing album, it is advisable to release it.
  • Whitefish - in the reservoirs of the Altai Territory is represented by two varieties: common whitefish and Siberian vendace. The deep Lake Teletskoye, which has a lot of it, is especially famous for whitefish fishing. You can fish with a float rod, placing a worm, jig, or fry on the hook, or with a spinning rod on a small spoon.
  • Taurus dace is a fish weighing 200-250 g, mistakenly called chebak by local residents. This is the only representative of cyprinids in Lake Teletskoye. The highest concentration is observed at the source of the Biya River and on the Kyga Bay; dace winter in the Chulyshman River. The best tackle for catching them is considered to be a float rod, and the most catchy bait is a red worm.
  • Burbot is a bottom-dwelling fish that lives in the deep holes of many Altai rivers. The catches are dominated by specimens up to 2 kg, sometimes trophy burbot weighing 5-6 kg are caught. You can catch them using donks of various designs or spinning rods. The best time for fishing is late autumn, winter and the first half of spring. During the warm period, when the water temperature is above 10 degrees, catching this fish is very problematic.
  • Pike, perch, roach, bream are found in all medium and large reservoirs of Altai. All known fishing methods and equipment are suitable for successful fishing.
