Sukhodolskoye Lake is part of the Vuoksa lake-river system. Located in the northern part of the Karelian Isthmus. Lake Sukhodolskoye stretches from west to east for 30 km. The width does not exceed 2 km. The Losevskaya channel flows from the lake. Vuoksa. The river flows out. Stormy in Lake Ladoga. Lake Sukhodolskoye is perhaps the most fishy of the lakes of the Karelian Isthmus. You can get to the lake by rail from the Finland Station to the railway station. Art. Losevo or Gromovo. By car to the village. Losevo and further along local roads. In the northwestern bay of the lake there is a fishing base where you can rent a boat. The most common fish species include the following: bream, roach, burbot, silver bream, ruffe, perch, pike, bleak. Less common are pike perch, ide, saberfish, dace, whitefish, salmon, grayling, and trout (whitefish and grayling are licensed fishing, salmon are a complete fishing ban). Fishing on Lake Sukhodolskoe can be done both from a boat and from the shore. Sharp drops in some places of the lake make it possible to reach significant depths from the shore. Since fishing in the Losevskaya Channel itself is permitted only with a license, we will not consider this place. For fishing from the shore, the area of greatest interest is the area of the lake within a radius of 100 meters from the mouth of the channel, the cape opposite the channel, and the shore of the lake 300 meters north of the railway. Art. Losevo. In these places, a float rod can reach depths of up to 6-8 meters, and the bottom can be cast to greater depths. In all of the listed places, except for the mouth area, the current is quite strong, so try to use appropriate gear. Most often in these places the trophies of fishermen are bream, roach, silver bream and ide. Burbot is caught on live bait donks (as well as in winter on “smelt” fishing rods with a worm attachment). Fishing from a boat is usually carried out at greater depths. The most commonly used gear in such fishing is a “ring” or a regular “feeder” (a donk with a feeder). The main bait is a worm, but it can also be caught well with maggots. Here the main fish is bream (from 200 to 800 or more grams). In the shallows (2-4 m), in the area of Cape Verde (the large cape in the northern part), you can find sabrefish, and there are plenty of other fish there too. There you can fish from a boat with a float rod. The largest bream (2 - 3 kg) are found opposite the confluence of the channel, on deep dumps. The current there is very significant, which, together with the great depth, creates many problems when fishing. Bream on Lake Sukhodolskoye is caught from May to October with a peak in July-August (for fishing from the shore). Away from the shore, bream can be caught throughout the entire period of open water. In the spring, the bait catches whitefish and dace. In winter, Lake Sukhodolskoye is of interest to lovers of roach and small burbot.

Until 1950, the lake had a different name - Suvanto (or Suvanto-järvi). It flowed not into Ladoga, but directly into the river. Vuoksa. On the eastern side of the lake there was a path from Vyborg to Korela (now Priozersk), which was called Vuoksinsky. Since people had to drag ships between these two lakes across the isthmus, a traffic jam developed.
According to historical data, in the 16th century. here was the town of Volochek Svansky, where many traders lived who actively used the portage. In 1741, local residents decided to dig a canal to discharge water into Ladoga. As a result of these efforts, and also with the help of weather phenomena, Sukhodolskoye Lake and Ladoga moved significantly closer to each other (the jumper between them was 50 m).
In 1818, during heavy spring rains, the water in the lakes rose, eroding meadows and fields. But the final point in this matter was put by a strong storm, which washed away the rest of the sandy land. This is how another river appeared - Taipaleen-joki, which is famous for its rapids.
Sukhodolskoye Lake is famous for its wide variety of fauna. Here fishermen can easily catch bream, ruffe, perch and pike. Roach and burbot, silver bream and hive are also found. Sometimes the waters can please you with the presence of pike perch, ide, sabrefish, elk, dace, whitefish and grayling. Trout is very rare, but fishing is prohibited.
Many anglers consider Lake Sukhodolskoye to be the most fishy place. Fishing here pleases with a variety of catches. They can fish both from a boat and from the shore. This is possible due to the presence of sharp drops, which create good conditions for casting a spinning rod and fishing rod to great depths.
Winter fishing on the lake
If in summer perch is extremely rare, and not very large in size, then in winter it will delight any fisherman. At great depths (3-5 m) it is caught with a spoon or jig. Also at this time of year, large roach fish well at depths of 5 meters. But the fishermen’s most impressive catch comes from burbot, for which Lake Sukhodolskoye is an excellent habitat. Unfortunately, bream is very difficult to catch in winter.
