Cake fishing

Peculiarities

Cake for fishing
Cake or flour is a product of plant origin, which appears by pressing the seeds of various oilseeds. It is often used as feed for cattle in the agro-industrial sector and has proven itself to be an excellent aromatic bait for fish.

There are several varieties of this product that are most often used by fishermen. These include:

  • sunflower (the most common option, which has good properties and a pleasant aroma);
  • flaxseed (in popularity it is inferior to the first type due to its rather high price and requires special attention during production, because there is a possibility of poisoning living creatures due to the high content of hydrocyanic acid);
  • soy (the least popular option, but has a fairly high biological value and boasts a large amount of protein).

There are also peanut, corn, rapeseed and mustard varieties, which are used much less frequently than others.

Experienced fishermen often use makushatnik to catch crucian carp, bream, carp and carp. It is noteworthy that everyone agrees on one common opinion about the most effective use of hemp cake. And yet, getting this option is not so easy, so it’s easier to opt for sunflower oil. The advantages of such a bait are its inexpensive cost, ease of preparation and the presence of rich aromatic properties that can lure prey in large quantities.

Which cake is better for fishing?

The success of catching carp with cake largely depends on the quality of the bait. In fishing stores you can buy special cake intended for fishing. Sometimes it is sold in its pure form, but there are also more interesting options that include honey, vanilla, peas and other ingredients that allow the bait to maintain its integrity in the water longer and attract fish. By the way, carp loves the aroma of sweets, so it’s not for nothing that honey and vanilla are included in the bait.

There are 3 main types of cake used in fishing:

  1. Sunflower. This species has gained the greatest popularity due to its pleasant taste and smell that attracts fish.
  2. Linen. Made from flax seeds. It is quite difficult to prepare it at home - the slightest violation of technology will reduce all efforts to nothing. Such bait must be purchased in fishing stores, and its price is relatively high.
  3. Soy. The cake contains a large amount of protein, which gives it biological value. The downside of this type of bait is that it is quite difficult to buy, and almost impossible to make at home.

If you don’t have the opportunity to purchase cake or you prefer to prepare everything for fishing with your own hands, you will need a coffee grinder, a press and molds with removable bottoms. As a press, you can use a jack and a piston corresponding to the size of the mold. Makukha can be made at home not only from sunflower seeds, but also from other ingredients that also effectively attract carp.

Important! The seeds for making the cake need to be fried only lightly so that they do not acquire an intimidating burning smell.

The following recipes are used for production:

  1. From seeds. This method of preparation is the most primitive, but considering that the only ingredient in it is the carp’s favorite delicacy, such bait will have a good effect. The seeds need to be fried until half cooked, cooled, and ground in a coffee grinder. Next, they are placed in molds, which should have holes for oil drainage. Using a press, crushed seeds must be pressed into molds. It is advisable to carry out the procedure with heating to simplify the process. For example, you can heat the molds in a water bath or put them in the oven. After pressing, the product does not need to be removed immediately, otherwise it may collapse - let it remain in the mold until it cools completely.
  2. From peas. This recipe has a more extensive list of ingredients. To make it you will need: 100 peas, 30 g semolina, one egg, 1 tbsp. l. corn oil, 1 tbsp. l. honey and 1 tsp. glycerin. First of all, you need to chop the peas and mix them with semolina. Separately combine the egg, honey, glycerin and mix well. You need to combine all the ingredients into one mass and knead until it becomes a thick but not sticky dough. It is necessary to transfer it into a bag and leave for 1-2 hours to ripen. After this, large boilies are formed from the dough, placed in salted boiling water and boiled until they begin to float. When going fishing, you can add a small piece of butter to the boilie bag - its aroma also attracts wild carp.
  3. With bird food. To make this bait, you will need any bird food (30 g), which can be purchased at a pet store. You also need to prepare: 30 g of lightly roasted sunflower seeds, 15 g of peas, 15 g of shortbread cookies and 10 g of walnuts. All components are ground in a coffee grinder, mixed, put into a mold and pressed. The finished briquettes should dry for 5–7 days.

The pulp cannot be stored for longer than 3 months, since the oils it contains will become bitter over time, and the product itself will acquire a repulsive odor. It is better to place it in a jar with a lid and place it in a dark place. The pressed cake used directly for bait must have a dense, hard structure. Powder and granular formulations are used exclusively for feeding. Don’t be afraid to taste it: the ideal option is when the cake has the sweetish taste of halva without any notes of oily bitterness.

Tackle and equipment for cake fishing

Cake on a hook
It is not difficult to guess that over the many years of the existence of this fishing method, many equipment options have been invented. People don’t waste time in vain studying the behavior of fish, their tastes and reactions to the use of certain sets of gear. Moreover, for different bodies of water these parameters can vary quite significantly. This is worth considering when you choose gear and equipment for cake fishing. At the time the method was invented, it was not possible to read about it on the Internet or see comments from colleagues. Therefore, everyone came up with something of their own, tested it, and shared it with other fishermen. Then, over time, the methods appeared in newspapers and fishing programs on TV. Only one thing did not change - the top was used and it worked, helping to catch a lot of fish.

The big advantage of the method is that it is not expensive. If you compare it with what avid carp anglers spend on their fishing, then you can immediately see that you are dealing with budget fishing. There is no need to buy any expensive accessories. At the same time, your cheap gear will be quite catchy. It is enough to take a high-quality and durable fishing rod or reel. If you prefer fishing rods, then take up to two hundred grams with dough. The fishing line should be taken from 0.4 to 0.6. Hooks - depending on the size of your potential prey. Sinkers - according to the strength of the current.

On a note:

The cake has a strong smell, therefore in areas with a good current, its aroma will quickly spread, attracting even those fish that were relatively far from the place where the bait was cast. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about having to wait too long for a bite. Where we have to fish in still water, we use wires to get the same effect.

Basic equipment rules when fishing with cake include the following:

  • a 30 cm fishing line is attached to a metal plate, and at the other end a loop should be made for a carabiner to secure the main fishing line;
  • a piece of cake, slightly smaller than the plate, is attached to the block with an elastic band;
  • we make small holes in our crown in order to secure 2 hooks with their help;
  • at the final stage, the tackle is attached to the main line and becomes completely usable.

Cake on a hook

The cake is cut into cubes with a side of one centimeter. Such a cube is secured to a hook using thread or a thin elastic band. In the water, after a while, the cake begins to open and pieces of bait come off from it. These fragrant pieces are carried downstream. That's why you should only take fresh cake. Old cake loses its aroma. If the fish finds food, it will approach the source of the pleasant aroma and suck the cube into its mouth. At this moment, the hook digs into the gills of the fish and the fish is hooked.

Previously, oil cake, due to its affordability, attracted fishing enthusiasts. Nowadays, buying good fresh cake at a low price is quite problematic. And I really want to go fishing! Craftsmen learned how to make nozzles at home using homemade presses.

What kind of fish can you catch with cake?

The main goal of catching fish is not small fish, but large fish. That’s why you can often find carp fishermen and fishermen among fans of cake fishing who prefer searching for large carp. But the capabilities of the makukha are not limited to these two breeds. If you do not disdain medium-sized fish, then you can safely catch the same crucian carp and large bream using cake. By the way, bream, silver carp and carp also bite this bait very well. It has been tested more than once throughout the country, in a variety of conditions.

DIY fishing cake

To make your own cake for fishing, you will need seeds, preferably dry, or even better, slightly toasted, to get the most pleasant aroma. To make powdered cake, you just need to pass the seeds through a meat grinder or coffee grinder, the essence is the same. At the end you will get a pleasant and aromatic mixture that can be used immediately. The ground cake emits a very pleasant aroma. Therefore, it is not surprising that fish adore it so much.

To make a solid cake from powdered cake, you need to compress it well, and, already pressed, put it in the oven for frying.

Making a makushatnik with your own hands

Let's look at how to make a makushatnik with deaf fixation; for this you need to prepare:

  • metal plate;
  • cake;
  • ring;
  • hooks for carp;
  • braided thread;
  • rubber bands.

To create a carp pulp with your own hands, first make leashes 8-12 cm in size from woven thread with hooks. If the crown measures 4x5 cm, then make 4 leashes. Then a metal plate is cut out according to the size of the crown. A hole is drilled at one end of the plate, a ring is installed in it, to which the main fishing line and leashes with hooks are attached.

Then you need to put the leashes on the sides of the plate and secure the end of the cake with an elastic band. The two shortest leashes are pulled out from the side; they will be installed in front. Then the back end of the cake is secured with an elastic band. Holes for hooks are made in the corners of a piece of cake. Instead of an elastic band, you can screw in self-tapping screws.

The manufacture of a sliding-type crown will require the use of the following materials:

  • cake;
  • a sinker that can slide;
  • braided thread;
  • carp hooks;
  • silicone stoppers;
  • wire;
  • swivel with carbine.

First, a sinker is placed on the main line. Below, 2 stoppers are installed to protect the knot. At the end of the thread, a swivel with a carabiner is installed, to which a loop of thread is fixed, the size of which should be. sufficient for a piece of topstock to pass through, in which a longitudinal hole is drilled, and leashes and the main line are passed through it.

The leashes are attached to a carabiner, a cotter pin is made from wire, the tendrils of which are threaded into the hole in the pulp. The wire should be of such a diameter that the cake holds it firmly. The main line is attached to the head of the cotter pin. Then they insert the hooks into the cake on both sides, because When casting a rod, the top of the rod can fall to the bottom in different ways. You can attach the cake by clamping it with a loop on the main fishing line.

Sinker

The sinker can be of any shape, but the most popular type is the “dovetail”, because it can be thrown further than other types. The weight of the weight is chosen for a pond - 60-80 g, for a river with a current - 80-180 g.

fishing line

To catch carp, a fishing line with a diameter of 0.45 mm and a length of 100 m is used. It is best to use a monofilament thread; this will be enough to create a top, which is cast manually or using a fishing rod equipped with a reel.

Leashes and hooks

Leashes are used 5-7 cm long, made of braided fishing line or monofilament thread with a diameter of 0.35 mm. The leads are fixed to a special latch, on the back of the plate or in holes. Hooks must be strong. It is better to use hooks for carp No. 4-6. The hook size is chosen depending on the weight of the intended prey.
