Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D-C: lightweight but powerful winch

Category: reel review Brand: Daiwa Tags: reel review

Daiwa Exceler LT is another wonderful reel from the budget series that has been in my arsenal. I also mainly used this reel at sea, but there were also freshwater fishing trips. In this article I will tell you my review of the Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D , describe its characteristics, operating features and much more.

Should I choose Daiwa Exceler LT or Daiwa Legalis LT?

In previous articles, I already wrote a review about the Daiwa Legalis LT reel in size 2500, which I took for light weight fishing. It suited me completely, but I had a need to fish with weights of 20-30 g, and possibly more. This requires a larger reel and a more powerful cord. I didn’t want to take another Daiwa Legalis LT, but in a larger size. Therefore, I set my sights on the Daiwa Exceler LT.

Daiwa Exceler LT and Daiwa Legalis LT are very similar in their technical solutions. They have only 3 serious differences: design, handle and the way the handle is attached to the reel. On the Daiwa Legalis LT it is secured with a clamping screw on the reverse side, while on the Daiwa Exceler LT it is screwed directly into the main pair. For fishing with heavy weights, a handle that is screwed into the main pair seemed preferable to me, so I chose it. Also, the Daiwa Exceler LT has an all-metal handle, without any moving joints. It is also a more reliable solution.

I think both of these reels are worth considering. However, due to differences in the methods of attaching the handle and their designs, it is still better to choose the Exceler LT for heavy weights. Although I know anglers who have been actively using a Daiwa Legalis LT reel in size 4000 for heavy jigs for more than one season and everything is fine with it. For light and medium weights - choose your taste, whichever design you like best, take it.

Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D-C review

After I decided that I would buy a Daiwa Exceler LT reel, the second question arose: what size should I choose? I decided not to waste time on trifles and chose between 4000 and 5000 sizes. Since the size of the spool plays an important role in casting distance, and I definitely need to cast far, I decided to choose the 5000 size. Moreover, the weight of these sizes did not differ much; the reel in the 4000 size weighed 240 g, and in the 5000 - 250 g. Let's take a closer look at the characteristics of the Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D .

Daiwa Exceler LT 17 - Review and reviews of the spinning reel

The Daiwa Exceler LT series is characterized by a quiet and soft ride, as well as light weight. The new LT concept provides even better protection for the internal mechanism, optimizes the reel's braking force and makes it even more powerful.

The new pinion design allows for a higher gear ratio, significantly extending reel life, while the ADT clutch system ensures even braking force for optimal performance.

Clutch power: 1000/2000: 4.0 kg, 2500/3000: 10.0 kg, 4000/6000: 12.0 kg. The cam shape of the size 6000 reel has been specially designed to withstand heavy loads - ideal for light jigging as well as feeder fishing.

Well, I took this reel in the size Daiwa Exceler 17 LT 2000D. There is only one minus - the knob is loose - this is the minus with which it is difficult to live, for me it is so unrealistic. Everything is fine, but you shake it and the knob gets loose - grand minus! Backing? Not smooth. It would be better to take the fuegu. As always, the toad was strangling (Well, I took this reel.

Advantages: design, weight Disadvantages: backlash

Well, what can I say about the reel, I didn’t see any difference between the revros and this one except for the weight! In general, the reel is beautiful with the correct spool, but the play of the main pair is the same as in budget reels. The only significant advantage of the Daiwa Exceler 17 LT is its weight!

And also in the Daiwa Exceler 17 LT size 3000 it is the same size of the Daiva Revros (Daiwa Ninja) 2500 spool. By the way, the side of the spool is pressed and not solid, and a rather sharp edge can damage the fence.

Every year fishing gear becomes more refined, lighter, thinner. In 2021, Daiwa launched the updated LT series of reels. Reels in this series had a significant reduction in weight while maximizing the strength of the body.

The Daiwa Exceler-17 LT 3000 reel is one of the representatives of this series. The very concept of LT technology (Light&Tough - light and rigid) is aimed at reducing weight and size, while increasing the strength of the reel itself and maintaining the line capacity of the spool.

The Daiva Exceller LT reel is supplied in a cardboard box, on the side cover of which is an explosion diagram of this product. All contents are packed in a plastic bag. We also receive an information brochure, a separate reel handle and a set of three additional washers that can be used to change the winding of the line/cord on the spool. Please note right away: the kit does not include a spare spool and there is no case for transporting the reel, so purchase these things yourself (if necessary).

When I opened the box, I thought that the entire coil was covered in grease. The reason for this is the unusual case made of composite material DS-5. The composite material has high strength with low weight. In addition, the coil body literally sparkles - it looks quite interesting.

Designed to reduce the weight of the product and the hollow rotor. The gear ratio is 5.3:1; for one revolution of the reel, 80 cm of fishing line is wound onto the spool. Number of bearings: 5 pcs., medium/light reel class.

The handle of the Daiwa Exceler 17 LT 3000D-C reel is made of aluminum. Has a T-shaped knob covered with rubber. The knob has a slight play in the horizontal plane. The handle is attached to the reel by screwing it clockwise. It is possible to rearrange it to suit any hand. On the opposite side there is a decorative plug.

The spool is a work of art. Made of aluminum, has perforations on the skirt. It’s smooth, so you don’t have to worry about the cord fraying or the fishing line rubbing against it. Has a plastic rectangular clip for attaching fishing line. Holds 150 meters of 0.33 mm fishing line. It’s a shame that the kit doesn’t include a spare, even a plastic, spool. This would make winding the backing cord easier. The diameter of the front side of the spool is 48 mm. It is made in two stages, which provides additional casting range. The cord with a diameter of 0.14 fits very well. It is worth noting that with the additional washers that come with the kit, you can change the winding: make it even or change it to a straight/reverse cone. The winding is smooth, without depressions or interruptions.

Friction brake of the Exceler-17 LT 3000 reel is front, with a maximum load of 10 kg. It delivers the line very smoothly and compensates for jerks perfectly. The brake discs are protected from dirt and moisture by a gasket.

The reverse flag is located behind the reel, at its bottom. The flag does not “stick” in transitional positions and stands clearly at the extreme points. The reverse stopper (Infinite Anti-Reverse) is activated immediately, preventing movement in the reverse direction.

The line guide bail (AirBail) is hollow and lightweight. The line roller (Twist Buster II) is smooth, reduces line friction and prevents line twisting.

And briefly about the main thing. The stated weight of the reel is 215 grams, my scales showed 1 gram less. The stroke of the coil is smooth and quiet, which gives it slow oscillation (Silent Oscillation). The cord, as described above, is laid very evenly and tightly. The loops do not come off, the cord does not twist. I didn’t detect any backlash, except for a slight oscillation of the knob in the horizontal plane (I didn’t see any coils that it didn’t exist). The friction is beyond praise.

Overall I am very pleased with the new Daiwa Exceler 17 LT 3000D-C reel. This season this reel is my favorite. And then we'll see. I think Daiwa will not stop there.

Pros: great design, light weight

Disadvantages: backlash, price could be lower

Well, what can I say about the Daiva Exceler Lt reel, I didn’t see any difference between the revros and this one except for the weight! In general, the reel is beautiful with the correct spool, but the play of the main pair is the same as in budget reels. its only plus is its weight!

And also in the size Daiwa Exceler LT 3000D-C - one-to-one spool Daiwa Revros E, Revros MX, Ninja - 2500 - spool diameter 48mm. By the way, the side of the spool is pressed and not solid, and a rather sharp edge can damage the fence.

The case of the 2500 and 3000 models is absolutely identical, the dimensions are the same.

The braid must be wound strictly under the first side of the spool. Unknowingly (I didn’t use Shimanov’s) I wound the fence under the second one out of habit like the rest of the Dives, as a result, 20 meters of varivas milk went into my beard.

Review of Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D-C

I immediately liked this reel when I took it out of the box and these feelings did not change after using it for fishing. review for the Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D-C . In this price category there were no branded reels from well-known brands with such a set of characteristics as lightness, smooth running, and reliability. But let's take a closer look at everything:

  • Backlashes. My Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D-C model had virtually no play. There was a slight play in the knob and the main pair, but it can be safely called technological and will not in any way affect the operation of the mechanism or the fishing experience. By the way, my Daiwa Legalis LT reel had more noticeable play in these same places, although still at an acceptable level.
  • Operation of the mechanism. The reel has a very smooth and velvety stroke. When fishing with the Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D-C, you get a feeling of reliability and power of the reel. When rotating, the reel produces the same pleasant light rustling sound that all reels from the budget LT series emit.
  • Friction. In my fishing trips I did not need to fine-tune the clutch. I kept it either tightened or slightly lowered to absorb only the strong jerks of small and medium-sized fish. But in general I can say that the clutch works well and has a fairly smooth setting.
  • Winding. I wound Sunline Siglon x4 cord in size 1 PE onto a Daiwa Exceler LT reel. The winding suited me completely; I did not adjust it. The reel never dropped the loops, even when fishing in strong winds, when performing power casts and active animation of the bait, when the cord is wound with different degrees of tension. The line release from the spool is also at an excellent level.
  • Conclusion. I leave a positive review of the Daiwa Exceler LT reel, I liked it. It is light, reels well and moves smoothly, and most importantly does not distract from fishing. Perhaps in the future I will buy another Daiwa Exceler LT in size 2000 or 2500 for rock fishing or fishing with light weight jigs.

I installed the Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D-C reel on a Maximus Gravity Jig 27M spinning rod. The balance of the tackle was not ideal and was shifted above the handle. But in general, the reel was in perfect harmony with this rod in design and size. The fishing experience was positive. The set turned out to be powerful, designed for long-distance casting even in stormy weather.

Fishing with Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D-C

I assembled a kit with a Daiwa Exceler LT 5000D-C reel mainly for sea fishing. Mainly for fishing with jigs in the Black Sea, but I also planned to fish with sabiki (tyrants), bombarda and Tyrolean stick. The power of the assembled kit was excessive. But nevertheless, I caught and enjoyed fishing.

Retrieving the jigs worked well, the reel was not too heavy, and the overall weight of the tackle was at an acceptable level. I mainly fished with weights of 20-30 g. I used heavier weights only a couple of times, since a 35-40 g jig is already significant in size and is not particularly suitable for catching horse mackerel or garfish from the shore. The reel coped well with active animation and quick reeling of the cord. Perhaps a higher gear ratio would be more appropriate for this fishing.

The weights of bombards, Tyrolean sticks and weights for equipping sabiks were different. Basically, this is 20-35 g. These fishing trips are calmer and do not put as much strain on the reel mechanism. Therefore, there were no more problems. When fishing with a classic jig within the spinning test (which is 14-43 g), the reel worked perfectly. A couple of times I even had to twitch small wobblers, which the reel also handled remarkably well.

Specifications

Each reel has its own characteristics. The main ones are:

• Gear ratio is a measure of how many revolutions the line guide makes per revolution of the handle. This is a very important indicator, because the higher this indicator, the less the angler will have to turn the handle in order to quickly reel in the line when retrieving and landing fish. For example, when catching large and moving fish, using a reel with a low rating, the spinning angler’s hand will quickly get tired of turning the handle. And fishing will not be so pleasant and very labor-intensive.

• Smooth and easy operation – promotes uniform laying of the line, which is very important.

• Weight and material of manufacture provide information on how light the reel is and how durable it will be in use.

• Daiwa Exceler reels have a front friction brake, in the form of a notch and notch in the front of the spool. This brake helps the line move smoothly when landing fish. Thanks to him, there are no jerks or sudden movements.

Is it worth buying Daiwa Exceler LT?

If you have a sufficient budget to purchase a Daiwa Exceler LT and you are satisfied with its characteristics, then definitely buy it. It has very few competitors among branded reels in this price segment. There are Chinese reels that, according to the stated characteristics, seem to be better than the Exceler LT, but in terms of fishing sensations, they most often turn out to be equal or even worse. Still, Daiwa is a proven brand that produces decent reels even in low and medium budgets.

I bought Daiwa Exceler LT on AliExpress. This site sells original reels at a very good price. Especially if you buy on sales and use cashback, for example, from LetyShops. You can find links to this reel below.
