The equipment has its own characteristics and in many respects differs significantly from the classic float equipment.
Rod selection
The rod must be long, allowing for long casting.
The guide rings of such fishing rods are located on long legs. At the tip of the rod, 1 - 2 additional guide rings are installed to reduce the coefficient of friction of the fishing line and reduce the load on the rod.
Long legs are necessary to ensure that wet line does not stick to the rod when casting. The best manufacturers of such rods are Italian, “Trabucco”, “Tubertini”, “Colmic”. These manufacturers produce high-quality fishing rods made of carbon fiber that can withstand very high tensile loads. Good models of Bolognese fishing rods are presented by Polish ones.
Reel selection
The inertia-free reel model allows you to cast a Bolognese fishing rod at a distance of up to 70 meters. Inertial models are not capable of providing such indicators, but with a reel you can successfully fish from a steep bank, when you do not need to cast the bait a significant distance from the shore.
The size of the spinning model is 3000 - 4000, the spool of such a reel can hold up to 160 meters of fishing line, this is quite enough for fishing at a considerable distance from the shore. The spool of a Bolognese reel has a low side, this allows the line to come off the spool with greater ease when casting.
By this feature, when choosing a part, you can easily determine the identity of the coil. A good reel for a Bolognese fishing rod should have at least 3 stainless steel ball bearings. Fishing with a Bolognese fishing rod is active fishing with frequent casting of bait, so for comfortable fishing you should choose high-speed models of devices with a gear ratio of at least 6.0:1.
The reel must be equipped with a friction brake that can be finely adjusted. Much more convenient for use with Bologna gear would be a device with a front clutch.
The weight of the reel should not be large. Fishing with a Bolognese fishing rod is most often carried out in the current, and it is constantly held in the hands, so you should select models whose parts are made of plastic and aluminum.

For equipment, high quality monofilament is used. The thickness of the fishing line should be no more than 0.2 mm, this will significantly reduce the number of idle bites and allow long-distance and accurate casting of the bait.
Leash
The leash is also made from monofilament, but the diameter should be smaller than that of the main fishing line. I usually use high-quality 0.12 mm monofilament.
Hook
This item is used in a small size. Hook number: 16 - 18. When fishing, you need to monitor the sharpness of the sting, otherwise there will be a large number of false bites and fish escapes. If the hook has become very dull due to snags or pitfalls, then its sharpness can be restored using a matchbox.

Retainer
The clamp can be purchased in specialized stores; it serves to fix the float in the position necessary for fishing at a certain depth.
Other elements
Float - necessary as a bite alarm. A special elongated, self-supporting float is purchased, with replaceable antennas and a stabilizer.
Float antennas of different colors allow the fisherman to control the process of fishing in different weather conditions; in the dark, floats equipped with an antenna with a fluorescent tip are used. A stabilizer is necessary to make more accurate bait casts; this design of the product significantly adds to its aerodynamic qualities.
Bolognese Coil Gear Ratio
A reel for a Bolognese fishing rod should not have traction characteristics, since we will not use it to pull out equipment weighing 50-100 grams, as in cases of fishing with a feeder. We will fish with fairly light floats. Therefore, in Bolognese fishing, it is not the traction characteristics that are important to us, but the speed characteristics, since we will have to make frequent recasts, which is why the Bolognese reel must have a fairly high gear ratio.
The gear ratio indicates how many times the reel rotor will turn around its axis in one revolution of the handle. If you are fishing for medium-sized fish like silver bream, crucian carp or rudd, then the reel is suitable with a gear ratio of 5.5:1 – 6.7:1 . If you hunt big fish and use a powerful rod, then you need a more powerful 5.0:1-5.5.:1 . For amateur fishermen, reels with high speed characteristics should not be taken, you are not at a competition and the extra minutes will not matter to you, especially considering that speed comes at the expense of power.
Current rigging
For fishing in the current, the fishing rod is equipped with a large float with a carrying capacity of at least 30 g.
The rod is selected to the maximum length so that you can easily control the fishing process in the current.
Very large fish are rarely caught with a Bolognese fishing rod, so you need to choose a rod with a fast action and a small cast, up to 30 g.
The quality of the guide rings used in the rod must be at its best. The most preferred are rings with ceramic liners inside. This design has a minimal coefficient of friction and does not damage the line when casting and retrieving fish.
The reel for the Bolognese fishing rod, which is planned to be used for fishing in the current, must be small, with a spool capacity of at least 100 meters of 0.3 mm fishing line.
Fishing line in the current is used with a diameter of up to 0.25 mm, and in bright colors. It is desirable that the fishing line be non-sinking so that you can control the direction of movement of the tackle.
The most common and effective tactic for fishing in the current with a Bolognese fishing rod is holding fishing.
The tackle is cast to the maximum possible distance from the shore, and when the bait moves with the current, it is periodically held with a slow swing of the rod. Such sudden stops can arouse the fish’s interest and bites, usually, you don’t have to wait long.
In the current, it is effective to use the wire method to retrieve the bait. To do this, it is necessary to load the tackle as much as possible so that when casting, it moves much slower than the current.
The simplest, but at the same time less effective way of fishing with a Bolognese rod in the current is to simply drift the bait with the speed of the current.
Bolognese coil friction brake
A reel for a Bolognese fishing rod must have a long clutch and it must be adjusted even more precisely than in a match, since Bolognese fishing involves fishing with even more delicate gear, and their habits can be 0.08-0.06 mm, so you will have to approach the setting of the clutch seriously, adjusting it literally millimeter by millimeter. In Bolognese fishing, the working position of the rod is the blank raised up. In this case, if we use the rear clutch, then we will need to look down, and if we use the front clutch, then we can, without losing sight of the float or the fish being caught, try to adjust it; also, the front clutch is softer and more reliable.
Equipment for standing water
A float for still water is selected with a long and bright antenna so that it can be thrown to the opposite bank of the river or reed thickets, which are located at a considerable distance from the shore. Bright colors are necessary for timely detection of the moment of bite. For still water, the fishing line must sink as quickly as possible in the reservoir, so special sinking fishing lines are used for fishing in such conditions.
If during operation, the fishing line loses its properties and does not sink to the bottom, then sprays are used, which can be purchased in fishing stores, giving the fishing line the necessary qualities. For cheap fishing lines, you can use regular dishwashing liquid, which perfectly removes excess fat that prevents the fishing line from sinking.
In a reservoir where there is no current, the float is loaded using several small weight pellets.
It is necessary to achieve such a load that only the float antenna is visible from the water.
In such conditions, a leash up to 0.5 meters long is used. The diameter of the leader line is always smaller than the main line, usually 0.12 mm, but it can be a little thicker.
In places where there is no current, fertilizing with special mixtures is effective. If the gear is cast at a distance from the shore of more than 30 meters, then the bait is cast using a special slingshot.
Ways to increase fish catch
You can increase the efficiency of fishing by using artificial or natural flavors. For example, when fishing for fish of the carp family, aromas such as vanilla, dill, garlic and cinnamon work well.
When hunting for predatory fish, the aromas of fresh fish, shrimp and mackerel are used. To enhance the fish bite, chemicals based on pheromones are also effective, causing even passive and unhungry fish to have a strong appetite.

There is some debate among some anglers about how many bearings a reel should have. For our case this is not so important. Much more important is what quality they will be and what bearing is installed on the line roller. 4 pieces will be enough.
When choosing a reel for a Bolognese fishing rod, pay attention to the bail, which operates on springs. It should bend easily and not jam during fishing. This is very important for our case, since such operations are carried out in large numbers. You don't have to adjust the bow every time it doesn't fit all the way. Of course, it is very difficult to check this in a store.
