Fishing in Abakan and surroundings
The Abakan River and all its tributaries are the most interesting places for fishing in Khakassia. The total duration of the river flow is more than 500 kilometers.
The most famous prey is grayling, but the river is also home to perch, pike, roach and taimen. If you do not go far from large cities, it is best to choose Abakan. The surroundings of the capital of the republic are perfect for fishing and you won’t have to spend a lot of time on the road.
The Tasheba River is a small tributary of the Yenisei, located west of Abakan. This place is suitable for fishing during high water. Here you can catch crucian carp, minnows and sorog. The fish are well-fed and you won’t need any special tricks or expensive bait for a good catch.
Tasheba River
Unlike natural tributaries, the drainage canals of Abakan as a fishing spot. There are fish here, but they are infected with parasites.
Kalininsky quarry. This place was famous as one of the richest for fishing, but now it’s not worth going here. The quarry is located near the city, so this place is chosen by car owners who come here to wash their cars. Automotive chemicals have caused large fish to leave these places long ago, and it is unlikely that a good catch can be caught here.
An excellent place for fishing on the Krasnoyarsk reservoir at the mouth of the Tuba River .
This area is remote from large populated areas and is home to large fish that are easy to catch with simple bait.

Grayling fishing on Abakan: So, the first type of fish is grayling. It is the most beautiful fish of all that fishing on Abakan offers. Grayling belongs to the salmon order and is very tasty. The good thing is that this fish has a noticeable appearance and is difficult to distinguish from other fish. The main feature is, of course, its high dorsal fin, bright and conspicuous.
Grayling is caught in Khakassia and especially in Abakan using rigs such as “bulda” and “slut”. Their description is approximately the following: a large foam plastic float, then a piece of thick fishing line (1 - 2 m) on which several 8-10 cm leashes are located and the equipment ends with a load. That is, a float and a weight, and leashes between them. Various artificial flies on a single hook, or jigs, are attached to leashes. The rod and reel are very durable, since the equipment itself can weigh from 20 grams to 100 grams, and they cast it over a long distance.
Catching lenok on Abakan: The second type of fish that is worth talking about is Lenok. This small fish is notable for the fact that it has very nutritious and healthy caviar. Typically, Lenok lives in cold lakes or in the foothills of rivers. The fish has a laterally compressed body with a small mouth and sharp teeth; the color of such a fish depends on the living conditions.
Lenok on the Abakan River catches artificial flies just like grayling. But it can also be successfully caught on a spinning rod using spinners (spinners, spinners) or wobblers as bait.
The last type of fish we will talk about is Taimen. Such fish is very valuable for culinary specialists and is a real dream for fishermen. The genus of this fish includes five, not very different species. Taimen is easy to distinguish from other fish, since on the Abakan River it is called “Red Pike”.

Lake Turpanje

Lake Kutuzhekovo. It is located 60 kilometers from Abakan and is suitable not only for fishing, but also for family recreation. The flat coastline, warm water and beautiful nature are complemented by excellent bite.
Lake Big Kyzykul
Lake Big Kyzykul. The reservoir is located 70 kilometers from Abakan. The lake is considered one of the most important fishing spots in Khakassia. Here you can catch large pike, and you don’t need to be a professional fisherman.

Where you can't fish
The Federal Law “On Amateur Fishing and on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation,” which entered into force on January 1, 2021, regulates fishing rules.
In particular, it defines the position of the Federal Fisheries Agency on the issue of using water bodies provided for commercial aquaculture (commercial fish farming).
According to paragraph 4 of Article 6 of the Law on Recreational Fishing and in accordance with the Decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, if a fish breeding area is formed on a water body and fish are raised in it, then such a water body is not for public use and amateur fishing is prohibited on it.
In Khakassia it is prohibited to fish on the following lakes:
- Shirinsky district - lake. Reingol, lake Dog (Pionerskoe);
- Beysky district - lake. Black (Novotroitskoye) in the area of the village of Sabinka, lake. Podgornoye, Lake Beyskoe near the village. Novotroitskoye, lake Sosnovoe, lake Krasnoe near the village. Bondarevo, lake Krasnoe (Zhuravlinoe), reservoir. Marble, lake Black (Kulstan), lake. Black in the area of the village of Dmitrievka, reservoir. Krasnoe near the village of Novonikolaevka;
- Altai district - lake. tussock;
- Tashtypsky district - lake. Marankul, lake Anzerkul;
- Sorsk - lake Pionerskoye, lake Igerkol, lake Pazykol, lake Warm, lake Balankol.
Those who fish (sportsmen or amateurs) in fish-breeding areas without the consent of users may be subject to administrative liability. There is criminal liability for theft of farmed fish.
Ban on fishing in Khakassia
Krasnoyarsk reservoir with inflowing rivers, fishing is prohibited:
- from May 1 to June 30 - in all bays of the reservoir at a distance of less than 70% of the length of the bay from its headwaters along the middle line;
- from September 20 to June 30 - all types of aquatic biological resources in the bays of the Yenisei and Abakan rivers at a distance of less than 3 km from the variable (actual) backwater;
- from April 20 to June 30 - all types of aquatic biological resources in the upper reaches of the reservoir in the area from the port of Abakan to the southern end of Mount Tepsei - the southern end of Mount Glyaden.
