Lake Tavatuy is the most beautiful and cleanest in the vicinity of the city of Yekaterinburg. It’s not for nothing that it is often called the pearl of the Middle Urals, and many tourists relax on the shores of the lake. The water here is clean and transparent. On a sunny day you can see the bottom at depths of up to several meters.
Tavatui Lake - a place for fisherman
Direction from Ekaterinburg: Serov Distance from Ekaterinburg (range): up to 50 km How to get there:
Distance from Yekaterinburg – 40 km.
1. Approximately at the 45th km. Serovsky tract turn left following the sign for the village of Tavatuy. The village is located on the shore of a lake. There is a road along the coast.
2. On the road from Pervouralsk to Bilimbay, then towards Novouralsk. Turn to Kalinovo Village. The village is located on the shore of a lake.
3. By motor boat or speedboat from Verkh-Neivinsky Pond.
Average depth: 6m Maximum depth: 9m Maximum length and width (km): 10*3.5km Access to the water for unloading watercraft: There are excellent access to the lake right in the village of Tavatuy. It is possible to drive into the water with a trailer. To do this, we drive along the main road of the village of Tavatuy and turn left into one of the perpendicular streets that goes straight to the water. You can leave the car right here on the shore, having previously driven it a little to the side so as not to interfere with others approaching. You can drive through the campsite by paying 300 rubles (this way you can protect your abandoned car from the local population). Catchment area: 104 km 2 Sources of water supply: About 30 streams and rivers Flowing rivers: Neiva Height above sea level: 263 m Area: 21 km 2 Age of the reservoir (years): 10009 Wild recreation: Due to the proximity of Yekaterinburg, wild recreation is distributed mainly from the Serovsky tract. The wildest of them is a vacation just outside the village of Tavatui (a couple of kilometers along a dirt road after the village is completed), where each vacationer can add evening animation with the participation of locals to their regular vacation program. Morning animation - what was not hidden in the tent was not there. Another part of the wild recreation passes to the left of the village of Tavatuy. After turning off from the Serovsky tract towards the village, we drive several kilometers, we don’t turn into the village itself, but go straight or to the left (towards the Stozhok ski slope), trying to make our way along one of the forest roads to the lake. It is this southeastern shore of Lake Tavatuy that is the most beautiful part of the entire lake with normal rocky shores. Car spaces and clearings here are occupied by Friday afternoon. And I must say the places are very good. The shores are sandy with moderate depression. Available services: There are numerous recreation centers on the shore of the lake: Islands: Olkhov Kust (in the southwest of the lake, opposite the village of Priozerny), Makarenok, Cherny, Sofronovy, Podosinovye Fee: Free Bottom: sand, silt. Fish:
The native fish of the lake are roach, perch, ruffe, pike, and spined loach. Later tench, burbot, and bream were introduced. In 1925, the lake was stocked with whitefish, in 1932 with Ladoga ripus, since 1952 the lake has been stocked with fish by the Tavatui fish hatchery and up to 500 thousand whitefish fingerlings are released into it annually.
Due to the presence of villages and large cities on the shore (Verkh-Neyvinsk, Novouralsk), and, accordingly, entrances, there are more fishermen here than fish, so fishing on Tavatui can be more of a sports and entertainment nature. Even small pike and perch are not easy prey. There is rare information about catching pike up to 2kg in the summer of 2010. There are relatively many perch in the area of the Bolshaya Shamanikha River in the southern part of the lake. There are a variety of fish holding on the eastern shore. In the channel of the Verkh-Neyvinsky pond, roach, perch, and pike are caught. At the confluence of the Vitimka River they take perch and ruff. A stone ridge runs across the lake, interrupted. It starts about 200 meters from the shore near the village of Kalinovo and stretches to the eastern shore near the village of Tavatuy. On the first and last ice, as well as in the summer, perches are caught on it. On the last ice in the middle, bream begins to bite, and roach begins to bite near the shore. Recently, rumors have appeared about the capture of pike perch in the lake, but many fishermen deny these rumors.
On the map of 1764, the lake had different sizes and shapes, occupied an area half as large and had a shallow depth. Its level rose after merging with the Verkh-Neivinsky reservoir.
Lake Tavatuy is a landscape reserve.
Geographic coordinates: Longitude: 60°10'59.86 Settlements on the coast: Tavatuy, Kalinovo, Priozerny Features:
Located in the Nevyansky district of the Sverdlovsk region, it belongs to the Neiva River basin. The lake is surrounded by pine forests with an admixture of fir, spruce, cedar, larch, birch, linden and an undergrowth of rose hips, raspberries, rowan, and currants.
From the lake From Tavatui you can get to the Verkh-Neyvinskoye Reservoir. The channel is located in the northern part of the lake. The northern shore of the lake is swampy. To find it, you need to move along the entire northern swampy shore. The channel itself has branches, which, however, does not particularly complicate the road to the Verkh-Neivinsky reservoir. There are quite a lot of fishermen on motor boats here, because... It’s difficult to sail here without a motor. The depths are small, about 1.5 m, but allow you to confidently move on a motor boat. The danger comes from sloughs and bumps, so it is better to keep the speed to a minimum. Speed boats often travel along the channel from Verkh-Neyvinsk, which reduce speed only in the channel itself. Persons who do not have massive all-metal water products need to be more careful and careful.

Fishing spots
Fishermen usually prefer to fish in bays - at the confluence of rivers. In Shamanikha Bay (the western part of the southern coast) there are plenty of perch and roach, in Vitilka Bay (the river of the same name flows along the western shore within the boundaries of the village of Kalinovo) there is ruff, and a very good size, and perch is also found here. Near the rafts, which are concentrated along the southern and northern edges of the lake, you can catch bream and large roach. Near the dry shores, not far from the water’s edge, small fish are usually caught, but in the middle of the lake, where it’s deep, it’s not so simple, the fish here are concentrated in special places. In our opinion, the most interesting place on Tavatui is the area where it connects with the Verkh-Neivinsky pond (the so-called “dam” or “channel”). The place is the most inaccessible, swampy, where all of the above fish are caught, and there is also the most pike here. It is worth mentioning the famous Tavatui underwater stone ridge, which begins 200 meters east of the village of Kalinovo (from the local school) and then stretches across the lake, interrupting here and there - in fact, all the way to the village of Tavatui. Above this ridge the depth does not exceed 4 meters, but if you move a little to the side, it increases sharply, in some places up to 8 meters. Here the perch bites well on the first ice.
Toponymy
- Origin of the name: there are two versions of the origin of the hydronym. According to the first, the name of the lake has Komi-Permyak roots and is derived from the phrase “ta va tui,” which translates as “this waterway.” There is even a corresponding legend about this - during the development of the Ural lands, a detachment of Russians arrived at the shores of the lake with a Komi guide, who pointed to the lakes and suggested further going by water. According to the second version, the name of the lake comes from the Turkic words “tau tui” - “holiday (feast) of the mountains.” Tavatui is indeed surrounded on all sides by mountains.
Title and legend
Researchers of Ural toponyms explain the name of the lake in different ways. Some put it together from the words of the Komi-Permyak dialects - “ta” “va” “tui”, resulting in “this or that waterway”. The reservoir, stretched from north to south, fully justifies such an interpretation. Others refer to the Tatar "tau" and "tui", which translate as "mountain" and "feast". In this case, the mountains surrounding the lake can be imagined as guests gathered for a holiday.
A local legend tells of a young, handsome and powerful hunter named Tavatuy, who lived on the mountain slopes in ancient times. Together with his tribe, he wandered around the surrounding area quite peacefully until militant-minded aliens appeared here.
To the request of Elder Toshem to hide from enemies in the forests, Tavatui responded with a call to battle with mortal enemies. In the battle, the hunter was killed in front of the eyes of Neiva, who was in love with him, the most beautiful girl in the area. Tears flowed from her eyes, forming a lake, at the bottom of which the hero who saved his fellow tribesmen from the insidious aliens remained lying. Neiva could not come to terms with grief and, throwing herself off the cliff, turned into a babbling clear river.

The Legend of Tavatuya and Neiva
Writer L.A. Fedorov described the legend about these places as follows:
“It was a long time ago, so long ago that a new forest has grown on these mountains a hundred times since then... A strong and beautiful, wise and vigilant tribe lived here then. But the most beautiful of all was the daughter of old Toshem, the beautiful Neiva. Many guys, wooing her, offered her father a rich ransom. And only one young hunter, named Tavatuy, did not bow to Toshem. Time passed. The tribe lived calmly, wandering through the ancient forests, hunting. But warlike people appeared from the east in the lake valley. They raided, killed and tortured people. Then the shaman ordered his people to go deep into the forest. But Tavatuy was indignant. He called for a fight against the aliens... The battle began... The battle lasted from sunrise to sunset. Tavatuy was struck down and fell on the trampled ground. Neiva saw with horror the death of her loved one. Tears flowed from her clouded eyes and flowed so hard that the valley was filled with tears. A lake appeared in this place, and it hid the mighty Tavatui at its bottom. And the beautiful Neiva threw herself off the cliff and, hitting sharp stones, turned into a beautiful river. With a quiet murmur it flowed across the earth to tell people about the great victory and heroic death of the young hunter.”
Geographical description
Tavatui is a relatively young lake. It was formed only 10-15 thousand years ago thanks to tectonic movements of the earth's crust. In terms of size, the reservoir is considered one of the largest in the region. The surface area of its waters is 21.2 square meters. km, maximum depth is 9 meters, length is 10 km from north to south, and almost 3.5 km from west to east.
The water in the lake is cool, crystal clear, and the bottom is clearly visible almost everywhere (except for the deepest places). Lake Tavatuy is unusually, one might say, fabulously picturesque. Photos show its banks, framed by spruce and birch forest. In many areas they are decorated with stone blocks of the most bizarre shapes. Three dozen streams and rivers carry their waters to Tavatui, the names of many of which are known only to local residents. The deepest and most widely known are Bolshaya Shamanikha (not to be confused with the Yakut Shamanikha), Kazachikha, Kamennaya, Kalinovka and Bolshaya Vitilka.
The geographical position of Lake Tavatuy is such that in summer it is about 1-2 degrees cooler here than in the surrounding area, and in winter it is the same amount warmer. From the end of June, the water off the coast warms up to 23-24 degrees. From late October to May the lake is covered with ice.

Recently, the ecological situation on Lake Tavatuy cannot be called favorable, since sewage discharges periodically occur from two large villages - Kalinovo and Tavatuy. Fishermen at times noted an unpleasant odor emanating from the fish and a strange yellowish color of the water - also with an unpleasant odor.
To Tavatuy
In years past, I often went to Lake Tavatuy, where magnificent nature merged with excellent fishing.
hidden lake
Tavatui is the lake of my childhood. The nature here is special. Imagine a huge lake surrounded by mountains with cliffs covered to the top with coniferous forest with white streaks of Russian birch. The shores of the lake, especially the eastern one, are indented by large and small creeks, where water lilies and lilies bloom in abundance in summer. From the south the lake is covered with aquatic vegetation. All summer long ducks nest and hatch here. There are many muskrats, and the fish kingdom is innumerable. But, although there is a lot of fish in the lake, they are capricious, and not everyone can get their hands on them. In previous years, driving to the lake was problematic. Bad roads quickly cooled down hotheads. And four kilometers along the hills and forest path from Tavatuy station to the village of Kalinovo became some protection for the lake from the evil eye and unkind hands. And there aren’t a lot of boats in the villages, and there’s nothing to do on the lake without a boat.
At an old friend's
So I came on vacation to Tavatui for a week, I wanted to go fishing on the first ice. I stopped at the caretaker of a recreation center that was just beginning to be built. Right there, not far in the backwater, along the shore, near the reeds, I put a dozen baits on the pike, and I started trolling the perch. Fortunately, the ice was thirty centimeters, the weather was perch, and things went well for me.
The owner of the hut, Vladimir Ivanovich, is about forty-five years old. An affable and cheerful person who went through the entire war and experienced all its hardships from beginning to end. Then he worked for more than twenty years at a fish factory, from which he left for health reasons—front-line wounds began to remind themselves more and more often. Everything that was under his control was in perfect order, and a small aquarium with guppies and a couple of pots of geraniums on the windowsills made the hut cozy and attractive.
Twice a week, Vladimir Ivanovich’s wife, Masha, comes from Kalinov across the ice across the lake. She helps put things in order, brings food, cooks borscht for future use. And on Saturday, when there are guests, Vladimir Ivanovich himself goes to Kalinovo to the bathhouse and, as he likes to say, “for his honestly earned hundred grams.”
Unpleasant guests
This absence occurred on the third day of my stay at the lake. Vladimir Ivanovich, as soon as it began to get dark, took several kilograms of fish and went to Kalinovo, and I was left alone.
I sit on the porch, listen to the wind, creaking the tops of the pine trees, moaning, and sometimes tapping branch on branch. On the other side of the bay, a dog is barking and a small spark is shining in the window.
Late in the evening, when I was already asleep, there was a knock on the hut. The knocking was persistent, as if the owner had arrived. Using a flashlight, I went to open the door. Walking out into the hallway, I immediately realized that there was more than one person behind the door. It turned out that a group of hunters had arrived to hunt elk. The elder showed me a note intended for Vladimir Ivanovich, and I let them into the house. Somehow settling down in the hut, the hunters untied their duffel bags, and the table began to fill with food.
An hour later, no one was listening to anyone, everyone was trying to talk vying with each other, the hubbub was indescribable. I was invited to the table several times, but I refused, citing the fact that I had to get up early tomorrow, and lay down, turning to the wall, in the hope of falling asleep. Only around three in the morning did the hunters fall asleep, and they became quiet.
At dawn
I woke up before dawn. The hut froze overnight. I looked out the window. The sky is filled with stars. I went outside. It's frosty. A light breeze burns your face. He collected firewood from the woodpile and returned to the hut. I had just lit the stove when Vladimir Ivanovich arrived. I told him about hunters, and he told me: “I know, they called from Kalinov, from the factory.” The lantern was lit. Ivanovich glanced at the table, littered with bottles of leftovers, and quietly, silently, swore. And then, under the heroic snoring of the hunters, we drank tea with warm shanezhki and strawberry jam.
It's dawn. It's time to go fishing. I love morning sunrises. When its first rays, falling on the snow, light up millions of diamonds, when before your eyes, under the rays of the sun, snow-covered trees awaken and a simple tap dance song or the whistling of a bullfinch is heard high in the sky. You feel the air getting warmer, it no longer burns your face like at night. Frozen snow creaks underfoot. Yes, somewhere a magpie had already chirped, and the eternal hard worker, the woodpecker, started his shot. I quickly go to the zherlits.
Fight
Something flashed red behind the reeds ahead. Checkbox? No, it seems. I'm going faster. I see the red spot again. It sways in the wind, as if inviting you to come to you. I switch from walking to running. About twenty paces from the flag I stop and try to slowly step on the thin ice and approach the pier. Almost all of the line on the reel is wound. I carefully take hold of it and begin to slowly select it. She gives in freely. And suddenly there was a weak tug, as if something was holding the fishing line in place. I immediately make a sweep and feel that there, in the depths, someone responds with a sharp jerk, and then the blows begin one after another. The fish rushes in different directions, trying to free itself from its double. I understand that the fish is big. Sometimes she tugs and pulls so that it seems that the fishing line is about to burst.
The hole froze over night - it needs to be expanded. I wind the fishing line around the felt boot, and carefully, so as not to cut it, I work with the pick.
The fish is fighting and its jerks are still strong. But finally, the hole is widened, and I begin to win the fishing line from the fish, meter by meter. It's almost over! I see something flash in the crumbs of ice. And here is the leash. A pike head appears from the water. The fish is already exhausted in the fight, but is still trying to resist. I smoothly pull the pike onto the ice. She's still squirming, but it's no use. Right behind the fishing line, I pull it away from the hole and begin to examine the prey.
A good pike - about three kilograms! Spotted gold, she hits the ice, bouncing, but with each blow her strength leaves her, and the frost freezes her body.
Just now I felt that I was breathing heavily, as if I had done difficult work. I look to where the rest of the guards stand and see two more flags flapping in the wind. One after another I pull out two more pikes, but they are much smaller than the first.
Right there, not far away, I catch live bait. I set up the triggered girders and go to the hut. The soul is light and joyful. The fishing was good.

Settlements
Just two or three centuries ago, only bears and wolves could be found in the area of Lake Tavatuy. At the end of the 17th century, fleeing the repressions of Peter I, Old Believers fled here, who founded the village of Tavatuy. Today it is a completely civilized settlement with shops, cafes, a free beach, which, by the way, is no different from the paid ones located at the bases on Lake Tavatuy. There is even a Christina Hotel here.
The largest, with a population of almost two and a half thousand people, and more modern is the village of Kalinovo. It is located three kilometers from the railway station of the same name, on the opposite bank from the village of Tavatuy. Here you can see two attractions that the locals are very proud of. This is a monument to those who fell during the Great Patriotic War. It contains capsules that are filled with earth from all the hero cities.
In addition, there is an amazing natural monument, which is some kind of incredible pile of stones.
