Choosing a catchy wobbler for pike is an eternal problem for beginning spinning anglers. This is also a reason for debate and discussion among experienced fishermen. In reality, there is no single correct answer to this question. When approaching the issue of fishing for pike with wobblers, you need to understand that there are a lot of such baits.

All wobblers are classified by shape, purpose, color, depth of penetration and buoyancy, as well as functionality. Each type is suitable for fishing in certain conditions, and only a few are universal. But even in this case, it should be taken into account that the quality of animation of any attachment, as a rule, depends on the experience of the spinner.

Today we will talk about a compound wobbler for pike. We will tell you about the features of the bait, the technique of fishing with it and its most effective models.

We invite you to take a look at our photos, where fishermen boast about their catch of pike, which they caught at the Sazanya Bay fishing base.

Peculiarities

Wobbler-joint (Jointed)
Wobbler-joint (Jointed)

– these are wobblers consisting of two or more parts, connected by a hinge. Such wobblers can have different shapes, buoyancy and depth. On a uniform retrieve, wobblers-components are distinguished by their play, reminiscent of the movement of live fish. Composite wobblers, parts of which are made of soft materials, are called Swim Bait, and wobblers imitating frogs, crustaceans, insects, and rodents are called Cicadas.

However, one of the most attractive qualities of compound wobblers is their ease of use. Already in the very design of baits of this type there is active play with uniform wiring. The fisherman does not have to strain too much: after splashing down the bait, you can simply rotate the reel handle evenly without changing the speed of the retrieve, and the attack of the pike will not take long.

What are the good things about compilers?

  • firstly, almost all wobblers have a more active game compared to other wobblers, starting up and working stably even with the slowest retrieve. But often it is this kind of wiring that causes a bite.
  • secondly, even without a long-distance casting system, these wobblers fly very well.
  • thirdly, being quite large, with the exception of the Mirrolure joints, they are not very sensitive to the quality of the leads.

Advantages and disadvantages of compounds

Composite wobblers have both certain advantages compared to lures of a simpler design, as well as disadvantages. Among the advantages it is worth highlighting:

  • Versatility. Among the components you can find models suitable for catching any predator and in almost any fishing conditions.
  • Game features. The body of solid wobblers does not have such mobility; the composite version is much more like a fish, and is attractive to a predator even with a simple uniform retrieve.
  • The flexible body of the bait provides greater freedom to the hooks, which significantly reduces the risk of fish escape.
  • Composite wobblers are one of the means by which spinners try to “stir up” inactive fish.
  • Another important factor is that composite baits are suitable for almost any type of retrieve, from simple even fishing to aggressive twitching, which allows you to choose the most suitable animation method as you go fishing.

There are also disadvantages:

  • According to many spinning anglers, the main drawback is the disgusting flight qualities. The casting range of composites is significantly less than that of solid models.
  • Increased likelihood of hooking, even compared to a conventional bait of similar sizes and equipped with the same number of hooks.
  • Possibility of breakage of the moving joint. Also, many models of joints have thin fins made of soft plastic, which quickly become unusable when fishing for pike.

Form of compilers

There are a great variety of forms, but they are conventionally divided into three, sometimes four categories. From the point of view of influence on the game, they are divided into only two categories. The highest frequency with a relatively large vibration amplitude can be achieved with compact crankbaits, i.e. wobbler with a short and high body (according to classification). At the other extreme are “minnows” - long and narrow lures. They can also be amplitude, but due to the inertia of such a configuration they cannot be made high-frequency at the same time. You can increase the frequency, but at the expense of amplitude.

Composite wobblers are the main types. What are the advantages of composite wobblers?

There is an opinion among fishermen that a correctly selected bait is already 50% of success in hunting the coveted specimen. There is a fairly wide range of baits on the market, but for catching a cunning and cautious predator, there is a variety of wobblers called composite wobblers. Thanks to their excellent performance characteristics, segmented baits, unlike solid wobblers, have a lively game and arouse the interest of even the most passive fish.

A wobbler-composite is a bait consisting of several interconnected parts. This design feature of the artificial fish creates all the conditions for a bright and realistic bait game. This is a great option for beginner spinning anglers.

The positive characteristics of segment products include

high performance; perfectly attracts fish from a large area of water; active play even with slow wiring; fairly good flight performance; their effectiveness does not depend on the quality of the wiring; ease of use.

In general, there are no obvious shortcomings in the bait. The only disadvantage can be considered the specifics of fishing in shallow water, where the fisherman has to move too quickly, and this, in turn, significantly reduces the number of bites. In such conditions, it is recommended to use baits equipped with a blade. The depth from the depth is 0.3-0.5 m; at a moderate pace, the scoring trophy has more opportunities for attack.

Wobblers are distinguished by shape, buoyancy, and depth of penetration. With uniform wiring, each type of compound has its own characteristic game, simulating the behavior of its prototype.

Multi-component wobblers – swimbaits – are especially popular. They can be of various shapes, they can be floating, quickly or slowly sinking, with or without a blade, weighty or light.

When considering the ingredients regarding their influence on the game, we distinguish high-frequency (for example, lures with a short and high body - fat) and lures with a long and narrow body - inertial (minnow).

Composite baits can also be noisy or silent. The body of noisy products contains steel balls. In some modifications, the balls are positioned in such a way that the center of gravity moves to the tail of the bait to allow casting over long distances.

Fishing with composite wobblers is especially effective in reservoirs with strong currents and in deep water, where predatory fish prefer to live. Here the most suitable option would be to use sinking joints.

Bladeless products can be considered a universal option, allowing you to play a variety of games with the fishing object and at the same time experiment with the speed of the retrieve. It was noticed that in small bodies of water with dense vegetation the catch is not very large, but it is still there.

In such areas, it is advisable to use models equipped with a blade. The bait is led slowly, which gives the predator time to detect and capture it. You can get a good result even without biting if you try to play with an artificial fish.

The best compound wobblers for pike, according to many anglers, are Jackall Magallon, Jackall Tiny Magallon, Pontoon21 Tantalisa, Imakatsu Buzz Bill.

Fishing with composite wobblers is characterized by an incredible sense of adrenaline, excitement and a lot of pleasant impressions. The main thing is to choose bait in accordance with the fishing conditions.

Almost any wiring for composite wobblers can be used. The choice of a specific method of presenting a compound is influenced by both the features of its design and the features of the fishing location, as well as the activity of the predator. The most commonly used are:

Normal uniform wiring. It works well on fairly active fish and does not require much effort to master. However, it should be taken into account that each model of a composite bait can have its own game expressed to varying degrees, which will affect the effectiveness of such wiring. You can also experiment with speeding up and slowing down the fishing line.

Stop&Go. This option can be considered an improved uniform retrieve, in which pauses are added for greater efficiency (since it is at the moment of stopping that a predator often attacks). As you fish, you should experiment with the length of pauses, and you can also add short jerks with the rod.

Twitching. A very popular wiring option, used mainly with minnow-type baits, but jerk wiring is also suitable for many baits. In this case, the wobbler moves solely due to jerks of the spinning rod, while the reel is used only to reel in the slack of the fishing line or cord. You can add variety to the wiring by taking pauses, during which it is possible to lower the bait (if it is sinking) to the bottom of the hole. To sum up the conversation about compound lures, let's just say go for it, and compound baits may just become your favorite bait.

Features of fishing with fishing rods

Experienced fishermen advise using composite wobblers in reservoirs where there is great depth and strong current, since in such places predators are often found at depth. For this fishing, sinking compound wobblers are the most suitable. These lures do not move very well, but they hold up better in water with strong currents.

Leashes

There is a special conversation about leashes. They have almost no influence on the players’ play. But... The leash can easily submerge a wobbler under water, and from a floating wobbler, we get a sinking one.

Therefore, we make leashes ourselves, fortunately, there are now a lot of leash materials: from wire (the “famous” string and nichrome, special leash from American Fishing Were) and multi-strand steel (from seven, nine, nineteen and forty-nine wires) to combinations of steel wires with artificial and synthetic fibers. If you take leads made of different materials, but with the same breaking load, then they will differ from each other in diameter and ability to retain residual deformations.

Product Features

It is important to note that wobblers used for twitching are bladeless; poppers and walkers are never used for trolling. The optimal predatory bait will be shads, cranks, and fats.

And in order to determine whether a bait is working or not, it is necessary to analyze a set of its basic properties.

Among them:

  • color;
  • immersion depth;
  • playing in the water;
  • size.

Let's look at each of them in more detail.

Colors

Special attention should be paid to the coloring of the wobbler. Because the wrong choice can ruin your entire fishing trip.

The selection of color depends on several factors:

  • transparency of the water surface;
  • weather;
  • predator activity.

The best option is to always have two types of colors in stock. Wobblers with a natural color, which most closely imitates a small fish, and lures of bright “acid” tones. The first is suitable for fishing in clear water, the other is better used in a reservoir with muddy water.

Playing in the water

A catchy wobbler is one whose movement is accompanied by active play. And additional noise and vibration will only enhance its effectiveness.

Size

The size of the fish trophy depends on the size of the bait. The larger it is, the larger the predator it will attract. The optimal length of the wobbler is 10–20 cm.

During the autumn period, when the predator is at depth and is actively gaining fat before winter, it is a large wobbler that will be able to lure it. In addition, such a product will create powerful vibrations and noise that the fish will not ignore. But with the beginning of spring, it is easy to lure a predator with a bait 5–8 cm long.

Immersion depth

Each product has its own recommended value. If the bait needs to be deepened or raised by 2-3 m, then this can be easily adjusted using the speed of the boat. Fast movement – deep immersion and vice versa.

With the onset of autumn, bottom models are considered the most effective. This is due to the fact that the food supply of predators becomes less diverse, and they move to the edges, pit dumps, and areas with differences in depth. Here the water temperature is stable and all peaceful fish are grouped.

Therefore, the immersion depth of the wobbler should be from 2 m.
