My best catchable baits for three seasons - wobblers, spoons, silicone baits

How to choose a catchy bait for a spinning rod?

Choosing the right lure for a spinning rod is a skillful process that requires deep knowledge of the behavior of a particular tackle, as well as many years of personal fishing experience. The diversity of the assortment of fishing stores often makes the choice very difficult and confusing, forcing the consumer to hastily take something “by eye”. To prevent this from happening, you should listen to expert recommendations and pay attention to the following aspects:

Fishing conditions.

Regardless of where you are fishing, always remember three key rules for finding a cool spot:

  1. The abundance of food supply guarantees the presence of fish in this place;
  2. Fish (even the most imprudent) like to lie on the bottom;
  3. Snags and grassy thickets are a favorite ambush site for predatory fish.
  4. Based on these descriptions, you can easily find the best fishing spot.

Bait type

. Traditionally, all spinning baits are divided into:

  1. silicone. Their advantage is expressed in the accurate imitation of the movement of small animals. As a rule, they are flavored and edible;
  2. foam rubber. They are used only with jig heads due to their negligible weight. They are characterized by the fact that when deepened they raise their “tail”, resembling a fish feeding from the bottom.
  3. wobblers. A huge group of baits, distinguished by a variety of classes and design options. The most interesting and most popular bait for anglers all over the world. You can choose a fish for any fishing conditions.
  4. spinners. Traditionally, the first solid baits are stamped with relief (or just color) applied to the side of the fish. They are divided into oscillating and rotating spoons. Used mainly for catching “traditional” predators.

Object of fishing.

When the fishing conditions have been chosen and the range of baits has been studied, it’s time to find out what the fish are biting on:

  1. When “hunting” for pike, you shouldn’t get hung up on choosing the perfect bait - this predator is not picky about spinners, wobblers, or silicone vibrating tails.
  2. Contrary to the previous predator, pike perch is more susceptible to jig baits (foam rubber and silicone fish), as well as oscillating spoons. When fishing at night, it can also be “hooked” using shallow-water wobblers.
  3. The perch “eats” almost everything that is offered to it: small wobblers, spinner baits and silicone vibrotails. In the fall it can become active on small spoons and jig gear.
  4. To catch asp, experienced fishermen use mainly heavy baits: spoons or wobblers (poppers or walkers).
  5. Of all the bait “dishes,” the chub prefers to hunt wobblers (such as cicadas and cranks), spinners and small oscillating spoons.
  6. Trout. A tasty fish with a disgusting character, the unpredictability of which outstrips the angler's desire to catch it. Most often it reacts to micro-oscillators, jig heads and wobblers (minnows).

Top best poppers

Poppers also did not go unnoticed. I respect them no less, and maybe even love these surface baits the most. You can read about them here. The exits and casts of pike on this bait are simply unforgettable. The pike responded immediately to the Rapala Skitter Pop, weighing 7 grams, with a blue back and bronze belly. The Flamingo poppers were not particularly inferior, and three bee-eaters were hooked on the spotted green one - one kilo, three hundred kilo and eight hundred kilo.

In September I purchased a new Sert Killer Pop popper. It turned out to be an opportunity to order from an online store. I wanted to buy the Sert Killer Pop 80 model, weight 12 grams, length - 8 centimeters, and accidentally ordered the older model: Killer Pop 100F, weight 24 grams and length 10 centimeters. I received the package and was stunned - I was expecting a baby, but I received some very huge bait. To be honest, I even had to buy a new spinning rod for this occasion with a test of 7 - 28, since my light poles simply did not stretch it. On the first fishing trip, he created a real pike sensation - there was such a loud “gurgle” along the river that where I had not seen a single bite before, the pikes jumped out from under the grass and grabbed him furiously.

In total, more than 20 pike were caught in a week. The largest predator caught was 3,700. I think I would have caught more, but unfortunately a sharp cold snap began and the pike moved to the lower layers of the water. Two weeks ago another order arrived in the mail and now two younger brothers have been added to the older Serty. I am sure that in the summer the pike will not be able to resist them.

The leaders in perch from mid-July to mid-September were the favorites from Yo-Zuri. Very high quality and beautiful baits. The body of these poppers is shaped with 3D Prism Finish. Such a body perfectly attracts predators with its realistic fish scales. The flight data is top notch, and with the right skill it hits right on target. In addition, thanks to a special holographic metallized coating, they are reliably protected from damage by pike teeth with a layer of transparent plastic. I have four of them: three Yo-Zuri 3DS Popperer (weight 7 grams, length 65 mm) and one Yo-Zuri 3DB Popper Floating Lure (weight 10 grams, length 75 mm). The fifth was brutally cut off by a large pike: the miss occurred on the monofilament above the leash.

In total, more than 200 hundred perch, two dozen pike, 3 chub and one asp were caught this year. The Pontoon 21 Beat-Bull popper also performed well.

The best lures for spinning

Rublex Orkla

Rating: 5.0

The famous series of oscillating spinners, which have become the hallmark of the Rublex company. It uses the same principles of geometry as domestic spinners of the Atom series - the body has a double bend, allowing the bait to make dynamic, jerky movements, similar to the yaw of a small fish.

According to the manufacturer, the Rublex Orkla series has ten different color options. Some color schemes are so realistic that the lures take on the appearance of trout and mackerel fry. There is another option, in which the emphasis is on catchiness, achieved thanks to the red color of the head part. The cost of baits in this series is low, and they can be used everywhere, be it a lake, a river or the open sea.

Advantages

  • low price coupled with high catchability;
  • the ability to choose among ten color options;
  • unique spasmodic movements that highly accurately imitate the yaw of fry.

Flaws

  • not detected.

The best spinners

This is the next group of baits that I want to talk about. In cloudy weather, the turntables model “Aglia” No. 1 and No. 2, gold and bronze colors, turned out to be catchy. Also very “perch-like” were the Mepps model “Aglia long” No. 0, red with a blue stripe. On “Fiord” spinners No. 2 and No. 0, silver and blue with yellow, perch and small pike (up to 1 kg) were caught well in clear weather. This summer, pike perch preferred Myran spinners of the Panther and Wipp models, weighing 5 and 7 grams.

The best soft baits for spinning

Fox Rage Fork Tail

Rating: 4.9

Fox Rage silicone baits are a unique development that relies on the special movements of the fish when retrieved. A characteristic difference between Fork Tail and other series is the refined and forked shape of the tail, thanks to which it manages to exactly repeat the body movements of the fry. Depending on the speed of the retrieve, the depth of fishing and the overall parameters, the amplitude of oscillations of the tail section changes greatly, which has a luring effect on large fish.

As consumers note, the performance qualities of Fork Tail allow the fish to be used for several full seasons, up to its complete torture along the entire length or (more often) loss of the tail. This is an excellent bait for river and lake fishing, which is preferred by all toothy and aggressive predators (mainly pike and pike perch).

Advantages

  • adaptive shape that changes the amplitude of movements depending on the speed of the drive;
  • high efficiency at low water;
  • abundance of exterior color options;
  • long service life.

Flaws

  • not identified.

Tackle Industries Super D Swimbait

Rating: 4.8

A soft and very unpredictable swimbait, which has won a place in the ranking due to its atypical appearance and high catchability on rivers. A metal base with an axle weight, two eyes for tees and one spinal hook is placed in the rubber body of a small fish with an elongated and curled tail. Actually, the last element is the main luring factor - the spiral-shaped silicone tape has the property of changing the speed and amplitude of vibrations depending on the wiring.

According to experts, Super D Swimbait is most often used as a slow-moving bait. A predator, such as a large pike, pike perch or chub, only needs one sight of a skillfully created fish to decide to attack. Unfortunately, the cost of this bait can significantly hit the pockets of amateurs and beginners, so it can rarely be seen as an element of a fishing collection.

Advantages

  • believable animation of small fish;
  • variability in color choice;
  • three hooks in the base - two tees and one backbone.

Flaws

  • quite high cost;
  • It is possible that the soft tail may break off during the first stages of fishing.

Trolling wobbler - Jesse Saddle 8 and Bomber Flat A

The category is very broad, because... and the sizes can be any, and the depths are very different. But here, to be more specific, I will focus on the most common fishing conditions in our company, and these are reservoirs or areas where wobblers with a depth of 2 - 4 m are needed. I won’t be much mistaken if I say that such conditions in the North-West are the most standard for most anglers.

Wobbler Jesse Saddle 8 (photo 33). The most versatile trolling wobbler, which has managed to fall in love with the masses of domestic fishermen who fish on our largest bodies of water. The fishing is also great on small lakes and rivers. It was created as a pike-perch wobbler, but it works just as well for pike and salmon. Despite its small size, in recent years it has regularly brought almost the largest pikes.

Wobbler Bomber Flat A (photo 34). It looks primitive. For some, even scary. But he is an extraordinary catcher. Moreover, both versions are good - both with a small and with a large shovel. They differ in “game” and in depth, respectively, but one of them is successful in almost the vast majority of cases. Raises the fish vertically a decent distance. Equally attractive to pike, zander and perch.

The candidate is Smithwick Suspending Super Rogue (photo 35).
