Bait and bait for carp in August

August is the last month of summer. It is usually characterized by consistently warm weather. The heat begins to subside towards the end of the month. It begins to rain periodically. The days are getting shorter, the nights are longer and cooler. Autumn is approaching, but it's still summer for carp.

Fishing for carp in August is a period of active biting for fish that have survived the summer bloom of water, the heat and an increase in air and water temperatures to the upper limit, and a period of disturbance in the oxygen balance.

Carp are active and voracious in August, biting on any protein-rich bait

In August, carp comes to life again, begins to lead an active lifestyle, refuses constant feeding on plankton and again becomes itself: an active, strong, unpredictable fish, capable of giving a serious fight even to an experienced carp angler.

Carp

A rather unassuming fish - a relative of the wild carp. She is more viable and fertile. Three-year-old females are ready to breed and are capable of laying about a million eggs.

This “pig” can live up to 30 years and gain weight of about 50 kilograms.

Biting calendar:

  • January: lethargy is noted, there is practically no biting.
  • February: carp are not biting.
  • March: little oxygen, passivity noted.
  • April: by the second half it wakes up and begins to bite.
  • May: close to the shore, in well-warmed areas, it is tempted by prey.
  • June: In the first ten days of spawning, there is no bite. In the second, rest after spawning. There is no activity this month.
  • July: when hungry in June, it attacks food.
  • August: instinctively feeling the approach of autumn, he eats everything and is very active.
  • September: At the beginning of the month it moves deeper in flocks. In the second half, on the eve of winter, it feeds energetically.
  • October: carp are indifferent to what is happening.
  • November: lazily dozing in the depths.
  • December: There is no bite, it is at depth.

Where to look for carp

Fishing for carp in August will be successful if you can “grope” the migration routes of this fish through the reservoir. Of course, it’s worth looking for carp in its usual places:

  • in the pits;
  • eyebrows;
  • "tables";
  • at the border of reeds (reeds) and open water;
  • at the snag.

But carp don’t always stay even in their favorite places. Especially at the end of August, it moves a lot around the reservoir. Like the winter burbot, this fish moves in its own “paths.” You will have to look for these trails on every new body of water. Sometimes they pass close to the shore. Sometimes such a path cannot be reached from the shore.

In August, carp can also stay near the surface of the water, eating insects that fall into the water.

Carp avoids shallow water areas. The ideal depth at the fishing spot should be within 1.5 / 2.5 meters. The fish tolerates the current normally, but it is quite difficult to meet carp in the rapids. In August, this fish stays at relatively short (up to 30 meters) distances from the shore. On relatively small rivers, carp like to stand at the exits of pits.

The fish reveals its presence in several ways:

  • blows bubbles;
  • sometimes jumps out of the water.

A good indicator of the presence of carp is crucian carp. These fish eat the same food. Crucian carp grows to smaller sizes. And therefore, crucian carp always have to give in to larger and more aggressive carp.

As soon as the crucian carp stop pecking at the baited area, you can be sure that either a large predator or a carp drove them away. However, you need to take into account that successful fishing for crucian carp in August also greatly depends on weather conditions.

The best reservoirs for August carp fishing

Carp hunting is considered to be the most exciting and intriguing type of fishing. In search of these “golden trophies,” fishing enthusiasts or “carp anglers” travel all over Russia and beyond.

Free reservoirs in Russia:

  1. Fishermen are trying to find carp in the vastness of the Kuban or Volga, but why go so far? When you can catch huge specimens forty kilometers from Moscow, on the territory of Pakhra . It is here that fish constantly bite in the month of August.
  2. Fast-flowing river - Oka . Here at this time you can catch river and mirror carp.
  3. Lake Lukovoe , which is located in the Nogino region. Here fishermen get great pleasure from hunting carp in August.
  4. Three lakes in the village of Kosino , which is located outside Moscow. Carp here bite mainly on bait of plant origin.
  5. Lake Biserovskoe. Here in August, carp bite on porridge made from peas and pearl barley.

Paid reservoirs of Russia:

  1. In a carp spot near the village of Popovka you can hunt for carp both from the shore and from a boat. The cost of a daytime ticket is 300 rubles.
  2. In August, carp is excellently caught on the Shipulinsky reservoir , in the Belgorod region. The cost of fishing is 200 rubles.
  3. There are also a lot of fish in the lake in the village of Rybnoye. You can catch it by boat; canned corn is usually used as bait. The cost of hunting fish per day is 900 rubles.

The August carp fishing will always be interesting and active if the angler can adjust the fishing days to suit the weather conditions.

So, the most acceptable period for fishing is from night until morning, since carp does not like heat. Accordingly, you should not expect frequent bites in the hot daytime.

Now only mine bites!

The peculiarities of carp fishing in summer are such that it is easier to respond when it doesn’t bite. Carps show low activity only during sudden changes in weather, in strong winds or in the middle of the day during prolonged heat. And even then, somewhere at the bottom of the reservoir near a cool spring, the fish are active.

Some fishermen like to come to the reservoir in the dark and fish at dawn, others like to sleep and start fishing after the sun rises quite high above the horizon. In addition to them, there are carp fishing enthusiasts who prefer to fish exclusively at night.

And adherents of carp fishing even come to the reservoir to fish for several days, so carp fishing in June, July or August practically does not depend on the time of day.

What do carp bite on?

There is no clear answer to what carp bite at in a certain period. It is omnivorous, and a wide range of baits and plant baits are used to catch this fish. Traditional worms and maggots, as well as various fishing baits, are applicable. To provoke the fish to bite, practice-tested carp baits are used. In the summer, catching carp with potatoes gives good results. Potatoes are always at hand, and preparing a catchy bait yourself is not difficult.

To quickly determine what the carp are biting on on the day of fishing, you need to equip the tackle with several hooks. Attach different baits and attachments. After several bites, the bait is determined, which is subsequently preferred. The place of fishing should be changed when the reaction of the fish to all the bait and bait available in the arsenal has been checked.

So, carp fishing in the summer months is exciting and comfortable. The main thing is to prepare your gear correctly and choose a good place for fishing.

What gear to use

3

Fishing for carp in August is quite effective using all known methods of catching this fish. Carp are caught on both bottom and float gear.

Bottom gear that is considered the most effective for catching this fish includes:

  • Feeder;
  • Classic donka;

Although feeder tackle is considered less mobile than float tackle, it is used more often in carp fishing and continues to prove its effectiveness.

Bottom tackle is good when the carp is kept at a considerable distance from the shore, and the bottom of the reservoir is quite clean.

Requirements for bottom gear:

  • A fishing rod made of composite materials or fiberglass (flexible, durable, powerful), length ranging from 2.7 to 4.5 meters with a weight of up to 100 grams.
  • The reel is a spinning reel with an extended spool, a baitrunner and precise adjustment of the clutch.
  • The main line or cord with a cross-section of at least 0.22 mm.
  • The feeder is selected based on the fishing conditions.
  • Hooks - based on the size of the bait.

Previously, donka was used for carp fishing only with a hard bottom. Recently, carp have also been caught with a feeder fishing rod in heavily silted reservoirs, using frame feeders of the “Method” type. Feeder fishing becomes more effective when air and water temperatures drop.

You can catch carp with a float rod in places where the carp stay at fairly close distances and fairly accurate casting is required (the exception is a match rod, which allows you to catch fish at fairly long distances).

Flying, match and plug tackle cope with these tasks quite well.

It’s not enough to have the necessary gear. You need to properly equip your fishing spot.

Special carp fishing rods will help you catch carp, the exact characteristics of which depend on the chosen fishing method.

Carp baits

In August, when fishing for carp, you can use the following baits:

  • Pearl barley;
  • Peas;
  • Corn;
  • Wheat;
  • Potato;
  • Boyles;
  • Sunflower cake;
  • Dough;
  • Granules.

But it is desirable that the fisherman have additional types of complementary foods:

  • Worms;
  • Maggots;
  • Leeches.

If the carp does not bite on any of the above baits, then you can try combining them with each other. So, for example, combine two different boilies, peas with corn, etc.

  1. There are quite a lot of different baits for catching this fish. Vegetable baits such as corn, pearl barley and others must first be prepared. So the pearl barley must be steamed with boiling water. Two hundred grams of pearl barley are poured into a thermal glass and poured with a liter of boiling water. A tablespoon of any table oil and a spoonful of soda drink are also added there.
    This whole mass must be carefully moved and infused for about five hours. Using the same principle, bait is prepared from corn and peas. You need to put on such bait as follows: only two punctures should form on the pea (the puncture of insertion and removal of the hook).

    If necessary, you can bait several peas on one hook.

  2. Recently, baits such as boilies have become popular. These are balls of dough containing various flavors and proteins. They look like balls with a diameter of one to three centimeters.

Boilies, in turn, are divided into:

  • Solid;
  • Shredded.

They also differ in colors. The most common are considered to be white and red shades. However, the color depends on the turbidity of the water in the reservoir; the cloudier the water, the darker the boilies need to be selected.

In addition, they come in two types:

  • Drowning
  • Floating.

To prepare boilies at home, they are lightly fried in the oven. Due to this, they acquire a light and airy texture and do not sink. Such floating boilies are recognized as the most effective when fishing for carp.

  1. The dung worm is also very popular when fishing for carp. You can put one or several worms on the hook. It always attracts the fish's attention. In addition, chopped worms can be added to bait.
  2. To catch small and medium-sized individuals, maggots can be used as bait . They are quite easy to find and can be stored for a long time, which is very convenient.
  3. Mastyrka is also widely valued by carp hunters.
  4. Potato. It is pre-boiled in its skin. The size of the potato should not be large, since it is placed entirely on the hook.

Carp bait

Every angler with experience knows that bait plays a vital role when catching fish such as carp. In August, pond warriors begin to leave their summer camp sites and actively move around the reservoir in search of “pastures.”

They stay only in places where there is a lot of food.

Therefore, when fishing for carp with a float rod, you need to make a bulk basic feeding, delivering at least 1.5 kg of bait to the desired point.

A smaller amount of mixture will be swept away by hungry fish very quickly.

Of course, the angler will be able to get a few bites, but overall the fishing will not be successful... Nowadays there are a lot of different baits “for carp” on sale. You can hear different reviews and advice about the best commercial bait, but, in my opinion, it is more profitable to make the mixture yourself than to buy ready-made bait.

Firstly, it is much cheaper, and secondly, the fisherman has the opportunity to select ingredients and proportions. There are many different recipes for bait for carp.

It is simply unrealistic to list them within the framework of this article, so I will share only one simple recipe for good bait, which carp really loves. In August, as well as in other warm months, the mixture works just great!

Ingredients:

  • pearl barley - 1 part;
  • oatmeal - 1 part;
  • breadcrumbs - 1 part;
  • 1-2 cans sweet pickled corn;
  • 50-100 g honey;
  • fragrant vegetable oil.

And here's what you need to know: Fishing for tench in spring and summer. Tackle and bait for tench fishing

Cooking process:

  • Cook pearl barley. There should be enough water so that the granules swell, but do not boil.
  • Add oatmeal to the pan with cooked barley.

    Stir well and let the porridge brew a little.

  • Next, you need to pour a little oil into the porridge and add honey.
  • When you mix the porridge well after adding honey and butter, you need to pour the pickled corn and breadcrumbs into the pan.

After thorough mixing, the bait will be completely ready. But you can do something else to increase the attractiveness of the bait mixture - add an attractant.

Real attractants attract fish with special substances - pheromones contained in their composition. Pheromones excite the nervous system of fish, artificially provoking feelings of hunger and aggression.

One of the best attractants containing pheromones is FishHungry. It is sold in small portioned bags. One bag is enough for 1.5-2 kg of bait.

After the bait gets into the water, pheromones begin to quickly spread in it, provoking a good bite.

Anglers who fished with FishHungry bait note that the carp are drawn to the “table” much faster than when using conventional flavors such as vanillin, anise or cake.

I advise you to start by taking 1-2 bags of FishHungry for testing. I am sure that fishing with this attractant will reach a new level!

Bait plays a significant role in fishing, but it is not recommended to resort to dense bait, because the fish can get enough and not pay attention to the bait.

How to organize a fishing trip?

Is your target carp? In August, this fish is caught equally well throughout the day, and also bites well at night. But every body of water has its own feeding hours. Therefore, if you go fishing for carp with a fishing rod in an unfamiliar place, find out in advance when the fish reacts to baits and bait most quickly.

Once you find yourself on the pond, you need to choose a place where fishing will take place.

What to focus on? I would advise positioning yourself on a relatively clean section of the shore, or fishing from a seat between the reeds.

The depth at the upcoming fishing spot should be at least one and a half meters.

If there are shallows nearby, this is very good: the carp are somewhere nearby. The first step is to do basic feeding. We take a bag or bucket with bait, make balls out of it, and throw them at one point.

Feeders use special slingshots and even radio-controlled boats for feeding. But when fishing with a fishing rod, you can feed manually, because The fishing distance very rarely exceeds the 30-meter mark.

After the basic feeding has been done, you can start preparing the place. Gather your gear, lower the fish tank into the water, and set up a folding chair or chair. Take your time - you have at least half an hour until the first carp flock to the table with bait and the bite begins.

The fishing process itself is quite typical and standard: put bait on a hook, throw the equipment into the water, and wait for a bite.

If there is no bite, we experiment with baits, change something in the equipment (for example, the length of the leash).

Carp bite in different ways: sometimes it puts the float on its side, sometimes it drags the alarm under the water.

Sometimes, the fish begins to move sideways, and the float follows it. But if the float antenna only trembles slightly, you should refrain from hooking.

Such movements indicate that the carp is not biting, but is only trying the bait. If we hook at such a moment, we will simply pull the bait out of the fish’s mouth.

Fishing for carp is quite a challenge! If you want to safely drag the fish to the shore and get it into the landing net, under no circumstances should you try to do it quickly.

"Carp fishing in August"

The fish needs to be fairly tired. If the carp is rushing like a locomotive, loosen the clutch a little and give it the opportunity to release a little line.

If you feel that the enemy is not particularly resisting, drag him towards you.

Sooner or later, the carp will stop actively resisting, and the fishing will end in your victory.

As you can see, carp fishing in August is not so difficult. And in general: in reality everything is even simpler than in theory.

No tail, no scales!

Choosing the right equipment

Feeder

From time immemorial, feeder gear for carp fishing has been considered the most proven, and therefore the most popular among avid fishermen from all over the world. Their main advantage is their versatility in use, because with their help you can deliver both bait mixture and bait to the fishing point. At the same time, this can be done with high accuracy, both for short and long casts.

What do you need to know about summer feeder equipment?

  • The ideal size of the feeder is calculated depending on the planned casting distance, as well as the total size of the entire portion of bait.
  • Naturally, the hook must be selected: both to the proportions of the bait and to the weight of the future catch. Use branded products with a sharp tip, made from high-quality materials.
  • To make a leash, you can purchase a fishing line with a diameter smaller than the main one, about 0.05 mm (or a little smaller).
  • As for the thickness of the main line, it must be selected depending on the predicted size of the prey. If you are confident that you will be lucky enough to catch a large carp (over 7 kg), then use braided line. If your premonitions are modest, then use regular monofilament with a diameter of up to 0.3 mm (breaking force up to 7 kg).
  • Normal reel version: spinning (size: up to 3500), equipped with a baitrunner and a friction brake.
  • And finally, the length of the rod itself: from 3 to 3.6 meters (casting 40-80 g).

Match rod

For lovers of carp fishing with a float rod in August, a match rod will be an excellent choice. Because, thanks to the presence of a fairly voluminous reel and a special float (“Waggler” - Russian “Wagler”), you will have the opportunity to throw a “tasty” bait at optimal distances (up to 40 meters).

The basic requirements for a float (match) fishing rod for carp fishing in August will be as follows:

  • The carrying capacity of the match float should be in the range from 3 to 7 grams. It is important to choose an antenna that is very clearly visible against the horizon.
  • The optimal hook size is No. 3 (no more than 0.7 mm thick)
  • As for the leash, in this case it can be made from fishing line with a diameter of 0.25 mm and a short length of up to 25 cm.
  • Install an inertial “meat grinder” reel (with a wide spool) of a sufficiently large size (up to 4000) on the rod.
  • The best length of the main monofilament line (recommended diameters up to 0.25 mm) is up to 150 meters.
  • The rod itself (at least 4 meters long) must have guide rings.

Carp rods

As you can already guess from the name itself (even for a beginner), this is the most popular type of form in the separate world of carp fishing (sport fishing for carp). From the date of “birth” (i.e., the moment of invention) to the present day, the carp fishing rod has undergone many modifications and modifications. Literally for all occasions.

Thus, today you can find even three of its types on the shelves of fishing stores. Two of which are considered auxiliary (marker, spod / rocket) and one is the main / working option (directly for fishing).

In addition, there are specially designed carp fish:

  • for standing water or, conversely, for fast flow;
  • for fishing from the surface (using equipment with a float at 50-60 meters);
  • for very long casts of heavy baits;
  • for fishing in reeds and thickets (short models);
  • and, of course, for beginners (who forgive many mistakes - they bend perfectly, absorbing the powerful jerks of a hooked carp).

Regardless of the main purpose, carp “sticks” (having increased power) can withstand both instant “blows” and long-term fishing. No other blank will allow you to so effectively throw a fairly heavy rig at a distance of up to 100-120 meters. And then successfully win - a powerful trophy in a serious, fierce battle.

Baits and lures

One of the positive aspects for the fisherman in the carp’s biography is its voracious appetite. This “piglet” actively feeds in August, and with the same success gains weight.

Both store-bought bait and homemade porridge are suitable for fishing.

The bait may contain:

  • peas
  • pearl barley
  • corn
  • green pea
  • maggot
  • potato
  • sunflower cake
  • dough
  • boilies
  • granules
  • worm
  • maggot.

Tip 1: You can make so-called “sandwiches”. For example, halves of different boilies, corn plus maggots, worms with pearl barley.

Tip 2: If there is a populated area nearby, you can ask the local residents what the “culinary preferences” of the carp living in the area are.

Features of carp fishing in August

In order to catch carp in the last month of summer, you should pay attention to the following factors:

  • Choice of bait;
  • Determining the fishing location;
  • Proper equipment of fishing rod and tackle;
  • Behavior and character of this type of fish.

What period of the month is suitable?

Fishing will be successful in the second half of August. During this period, anticipating the onset of autumn, the carp begins to actively feed. Often, fish gather in schools and go in search of feeding in order to stock up on nutrients before the coming cold snap.

Times of Day

Carp is considered a nocturnal fish. During this period, its activity doubles. Fishermen have noticed that the bite increases from late at night until dawn. But this does not exclude the possibility of a good catch in August and during daylight hours.
