Lake Pleshcheyevo. Fishing
Lake Pleshcheyevo is a popular place for fishermen; it provides all the amenities for fishing:
- There is a recreation center near the reservoir. Fishermen can stay in it for several days. This will save time rather than having to drive home and then back;
- Receiving a fine for poaching is excluded. Fishing on Lake Pleshcheyevo is permitted, but it can only be done with a special permit;
- The reservoir is not clogged;
- There are many varieties of fish present in the lake. It also differs in size. Experienced fishermen always know where to get a good catch;
- A special fishing kit is provided for fishermen. It includes an air mattress, a spinning rod, a fish tank, hooks and a fishing rod;

How to get to the lake
Lake Pleshcheyevo is located 150 km from the capital. You can get there by various means of transport:
- By train. From Yaroslavsky station, take the train to the Sergiev Posad stop. Then transfer to a regular bus to Pereslavl-Zalessky.
- By car. From Moscow, drive northeast along the M8 highway.
- By bus. It goes from the central Shchelkovo bus station directly towards the lake. The first bus leaves at 7.00 am.

Nature of the Lake Pleshcheyevo basin
In other words, Lake Pleshcheyevo is called the “Pearl of Zalesye”.
There are many reasons for this:
- There are beautiful landscapes here that cannot be compared with anything in beauty;
- On the territory of the reservoir there are mixed forests;
- The reserves also contain flora and fauna;
- Visitors to the base can enjoy fresh and healing air, thanks to the presence of pine, birch and spruce forests;
- In addition to the lake, there are several more swamps on the territory;
- The reserve also has a park area, where you can see several extremely rare plants such as lady's slipper, or Flerov's wrestler;
- Botanists often seek to visit Lake Pleshcheyevo; bramble, dwarf birch, flood sedge and other little-known plants are still preserved on its territory;
- It is rich locally and in wildlife. Here you can see more than 200 species of birds, about 16 varieties of fish and about 60 mammals.
The nature of Lake Pleshcheevo is incredibly beautiful; you can enjoy it all day long and take great photos.
Features of the lake
As is natural for a lake, it has an oval shape. It also has a good location - in the south of the Yaroslavl region. The distance between this point and Moscow is only 140 kilometers. The total area of the reservoir is approximately 50 square meters, while the length of the coastline is about 27 kilometers.
People also come to this place to swim. They can quickly make sure that the bottom of the lake is sloping; to get to a depth of about 1 meter, they need to walk about five minutes from the shore. The deepest point in the reservoir is 25 meters.
The lake has been melting for a long time. Only in May does the ice completely disappear from its surface.
There are some restrictions on the territory of the reserve.
For example, fish can be caught in any way, but the use of nets is strictly prohibited. If this rule is violated, the visitor will have to pay a fine. The choice of vehicle is also limited. Motorcycles are not allowed near the island.
Motor boats are also locked up. You cannot even light a fire on the territory of the base; barbecue lovers will have to use a barbecue rental.
Before you go to the lake to fish, you should make sure there are no fishing restrictions.
Ecology of Lake Pleshcheevo
There are several arguments regarding the ecology of this wonderful place:
- Many visitors cannot believe how ecologically clean this place is. The concern is that there are several industrial, agricultural and transport facilities nearby. In addition, there are also chemical and culinary enterprises. But, despite this, the lake is ecological and the fish in it are present without chemical impurities. The administration provides powerful counteraction to anthropogenic pressure. They periodically check the condition of the lake, monitor its composition and water purity. Residents of the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky are convinced of the ecological state of the lake, and even use its sources for drinking;
- According to official data, special authorities also monitor the cleanliness of the reservoir. The staff of the Scientific Department have been working on this issue for a long time;
- There is also a security service on the territory of the reserve, which carefully monitors that the lake is not polluted by visitors.
Each person arriving at this place is first briefed on the rules of behavior on the territory of the reserve. The administration carefully monitors all visitors and asks them to leave the base if the conditions are not met. Therefore, you can be sure that this place has the cleanest ecology.
Lake Pleshcheyevo National Park
The park includes the territory of a natural reservoir and its surroundings, the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky. The purpose of its creation was to restore and preserve the unique natural complex of the lake and surrounding areas.
The park was formed in 1988 and was then called “Pereslavl Natural-Historical National Park”. It acquired its current name and status of a specially protected natural site only in 1998.
Lake Pleshcheyevo National Park is not only a conservation ecological institution, but also a scientific research institution. The objects located on the territory of the complex have aesthetic and historical value and are used for educational, cultural and scientific purposes. The area of the park is about 24,149 hectares, this figure includes the area of the lake itself (5,000 hectares), forest fund, dendrological garden and much more.
The fauna of the area adjacent to the lake is also very diverse. About three hundred species of vertebrates can be found here, and a special type of butterfly is also found. Among the inhabitants of the park, 10 species of insects, 14 species of birds, two species of fish, and three species of mammals are listed in the Red Book.
A special place in the national park is given to the dendrological garden named after S. F. Kharitonov. This garden is famous for its unique collection of trees and shrubs, comprising almost 600 specimens collected from all over the world.
Fish in the lake
There are about 12 species of fish in Lake Pleshcheyevo. Namely:
- Ukel;

- Burbot;
- Gudgeon;
- Guster;
- Roach;
- Ide;
- Golden crucian carp;
- Silver crucian carp;
- vendace;
- Herring;
- Marine relics.
The most popular fish in the reserve is vendace; the city coat of arms of this region is dedicated to it. It is worth noting that this is the most ancient representative of fish. Vendace was even presented to the royal table.

However, every year there are more and more fishermen who violate these rules. If they are discovered by law enforcement agencies, they are recognized as poachers and a fine is imposed on them. The rest of the time, fishing is allowed.
However, there are some peculiarities of winter fishing on Lake Pleshcheyevo:
- The ice on the reservoir is very fragile, so you can walk on it with the utmost caution;
- The largest fish is located in the western part of the lake , approximately at a distance of 500 meters to 3 kilometers from the shore. This place was discovered by local fishermen, who for several years in a row have been content with a large catch. The reason for this phenomenon is that this is where the deepest furrow is located;
- It is recommended to fish with bait such as bread, worms, bloodworms, perch eye or whitebait;
- As for equipment, it is advisable to use the simplest fishing rod with fishing line, about 25 meters;
- There are some features for each type of fish. For example, burbot lives at a distance of about 14 meters from the surface;
- If a fisherman wants to catch vendace, then he only needs to catch it with a spoon.
Nuances of location and surrounding nature
Location – Yaroslavl region (southern part), the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky, which is approximately 140 km from Moscow. The shape is round. Total area – 50–51 sq.m. km. The length of the coastline is about 27 km. The average depth of the reservoir is 12 m, the deepest mark is 25 m.
Interesting fact! Locals note that Pleshcheyevo resembles a large bowl. The edges are very shallow - no more than 1 m deep. Then the bottom drops sharply down to a level of 10 m, gradually deepening to 15–18 m, and in some places up to 25 m.
The main part of the bottom is sandy, but there are areas with silt.
One version of the formation of the lake indicates that it was formed during the Ice Age. For this reason, the water in it is so clear that you can observe the bottom at a depth of even 10 m
A more logical explanation for the crystal clear water is that the reservoir is filled with springs.
It is part of the national park, which is called Lake Pleshcheyevo. Surrounded on all sides by forests, swamps, and birch groves.
The reserve is home to many animals and birds. Among them:
- Brown bear;
- hare;
- fox;
- wolf;
- boar;
- muskrat (listed in the Red Book);
- black stork;
- grouse;
- swans.

Summer fishing on Lake Pleshcheyevo
There are some features of summer fishing in a reservoir:
- In the summer, fish such as ukel, bream or roach predominate;
- You can also “run into” burbot if you fish near the thickets;
- The largest fish is found at maximum depth, approximately in the central part of the lake, so it is recommended to catch it by boat;
- It is advisable to make a catch using live bait or spinners;
- The water in the lake is almost transparent, so you should not use a thick fishing line, as this may scare away the fish.
