It is difficult to overestimate the influence of the moon on the behavior of pike. The smaller the moon, the more active its bite. During a full moon, the pike stops biting altogether. However, like all rules, there are exceptions here - the new moon affects pike to a greater extent if fishing takes place in open, large bodies of water, and, accordingly, has practically no effect when fishing in small ponds. It is believed that the best bite occurs 8 days before the new moon (this is when the moon is completely dark) and 8 days after it. However, remember that you can catch pike even when the moon is almost full, the main thing is to catch it correctly.

Weather influence

Ideal conditions for pike fishing are cloudy weather, light wind, possibly drizzling rain (but not torrential rain). The mercury pressure is below average, low pressure.

In winter , pike bite poorly during snowstorms and strong storms. It bites well during light snowfall and the day after heavy snowfall.

In summer and hot spring days, the pike goes into the water column, therefore catching it is only possible with a donk or a feeder, although at temperatures above 32 degrees the pike stops reacting and hunting altogether. During hail there is also no point in trying to catch a pike. If the weather forecast calls for rain with precipitation over 40 mm, then you should postpone fishing.

Fishing within the city

A favorite vacation spot for Desnogorsk fishermen is the Selchanka River, which flows along the outskirts of the city and flows into the reservoir. Large fish are caught here quite rarely, but you can count on a stable bite of small fish throughout the year. In Selchanka there are:

Perch is found throughout the river. Small individuals stick to the coastal zone, where there is a complete absence of current. Fish weighing more than 300 grams. occupy deeper areas located near the riverbed. Small perch are caught on ultralight spinning rods using the following baits:

Pike on this river often coexists with ide. With the autumn cooling of the water, it moves to deeper areas and begins to be caught using the jig method.

In Selchanka you should look for pike perch on the riverbed edges and adjacent holes, which are located at a considerable distance from the shore. To throw the bait to the predator’s parking areas, the fisherman will need a fairly powerful spinning rod with a test range of 30–70 g. and a length of at least 2.7 m. “Fanged” responds better to soft silicone baits and foam fish about 7 cm long, carried out in a stepwise manner at the bottom.

In winter, within the city of Desnogorsk you can also very successfully catch peaceful and predatory fish. Good fishing spots are within walking distance.
