Origin of the name: The exact origin of the name of the river is still unknown. Some local historians are inclined to believe that it is definitely Turkic - translated from Tatar the word “tura” means “house, fortress”; also the Mongolian “tour” is translated into Russian as “town, fortress” (this is associated with the fact that the current city of Tyumen, located on the banks of the river, at one time it was an important military-political center of the Western Tatars). There is an assumption of Ugric origin - from the Mansi word “tur” - “lake”, but this version looks the most dubious compared to others. It is likely that the word “tura” has more ancient roots and is associated with the peoples who inhabited the Urals before the Mansi and Tatars. This is indicated by the fact that in some languages of the Urals and Siberia there is a root “tur”, meaning “influx”.

The Tura is a tributary of the Tobol River, flowing from west to east, and its sources are located on the edge of the Sverdlovsk region in the mountains of the Northern Urals. A tributary of the Tura River, the Pyshma River, is considered an excellent place for spinning predator fishing. To get to the fishing spots on the Pyshma River you need to go along the Tobolsk highway and turn right near the village of Sozonovo. This village is located in the Tyumen region, 55 kilometers from the city of Tyumen. From the turn to the river, drive a few hundred meters along the dirt road. Geography

Coastal landscape: in the upper reaches the river flows among small hills overgrown with coniferous and mixed forest. Here along the banks there are small swampy areas, here and there there are rocky outcrops, and periodically there are places of intensive gold mining, where the riverbed is heavily dug up by dredges. As Tura finally emerges from the mountains onto the plain, it begins to wind, forming numerous bends, branches and oxbow lakes. Here, forested banks alternate with water meadows. There are often damp places in the floodplain, and in some places there are large wetlands adjacent to the river.

Usually this route is followed in the spring, when there is enough water. Below Verkhoturye you can raft along the Tura not only in spring, but also in summer, but there the river shows a flat character - it winds a lot and flows quite slowly, so rafting along it is not as interesting as in places upstream.

There are legends about the diversity of the underwater world in these places. However, they are not far from the truth.

Indeed, the Tura River has not yet disappointed a single fisherman. Here are just a few representatives of the whole variety of fish:

The latter type of fish is listed in the local regional Red Book, so it is caught for pleasure, but is immediately released back. But even without nelma there is enough fish here for successful fishing.

There are many fishing spots on the river, but these are especially appreciated:

section of the river under the road bridge. Here you can catch large specimens of pike, ruffe, ide, that is, almost all river fish inhabitants;
between the villages of Chiksa and Oshkova there are places that are intended specifically for winter fishing, since the river bottom is replete with holes;
river mouth;
a section of a reservoir near the village of Sozonovo.

The lower reaches of the river are especially populated with fish. There are many riffles and small areas here.

There are special areas where commercial fishing is carried out, so recreational fishing is prohibited.

Verkhoturye is one of the oldest cities in Russia, located beyond the Ural Range, the oldest city in the Sverdlovsk region, which is also a regional religious center. Artificial introduction: Not all of the above fish are native. Three species - bleak, bream and pike perch - in the second half of the 20th century entered the Tura River through canals from the Volga-Kama basin (it was also possible that they could have been introduced artificially). All three fish successfully acclimatized and reproduced in sufficient numbers.

Fishing spots

Conventionally, the river can be divided into 3 sections:

The upper section is from the source to Verkhoturye. Here the river is considered sparsely fished - this was facilitated by gold mining by dredging and poaching flourishing in those parts; the most interesting fishing is possible only in reservoirs built on the river. In Tura itself, fish are also caught, but infrequently and mostly small. Most often, the catches include roach, perch, dace, and roaches. In the cold season, catching burbot on donkeys is quite common here.
The middle section is from Verkhoturye and approximately to the border of the Sverdlovsk and Tyumen regions. As sufficient depths begin to appear on the river (especially after the confluence with Tagil), fishing becomes more interesting. In the middle reaches, fish species such as pike perch and bream appear. There are noticeably more other fish, and the average size of caught specimens increases. Places from Turinskaya Sloboda and below are famous for large pike. Also, in the middle reaches the river is most interesting in terms of burbot fishing.
The lower section is from the border of the Sverdlovsk and Tyumen regions and to the mouth. The most interesting section of the river, highly revered by local fishermen. The ichthyofauna of this area is replenished with two new species - nelma and sterlet - these fish are found sporadically, are listed in the Red Book and are prohibited from catching. The main catches of fishermen here are roach (including quite decent ones), perch, pike perch (especially in the vicinity of Tyumen), pike, and bream. There are a lot of ruff and bleak, and dace is often found. Getting to these places is not difficult - from Turinsk to Tyumen, there is an asphalt road to the right of the river - in some places it comes close to the river, and there are also many exits from it to the shore.

A fisherman going to the lower reaches of the Tura River should take into account that industrial fishing is carried out there with nets, and some sections of the riverbed are at the disposal of tenants.

This river, which is part of the Tobol basin, begins its movement from the Sredneuralsky eastern slope.

The Tura travels most of its route through the Sverdlovsk region, and the Tyumen region accounts for the remaining 257 km of the Russian waterway. On the left, the Tura flows into the Tobol, which belongs to the Irtysh River basin. The length of the Tour is about 1030 km. The Verkhoturye hydroelectric power station, as well as three reservoirs, were built on the river. In spring, the river becomes high enough and deep enough for timber rafting; the river has also been given the status of “navigable”, and ships can travel a distance of 635 kilometers, starting from the mouth of the Tura.

There are very few fish in the upper reaches of the river and in its middle reaches, since industrial gold mining is developed in the upper reaches. Despite such a meager amount of fish, local fishermen living nearby often engage in poaching. In the lower reaches, the character of the Tura changes: it has a large number of shallow areas and rapids (some of them stretch for 2.5 km); The river bed is very winding, and this is why it is of interest to fishermen.

The lower reaches of the Tyumen region are inhabited by pike perch, burbot, bream, ruffe, pike, ide, dace, chebak, perch, bleak, sterlet, minnow, and roach. In such places the river is quite wide: about 200 m. The most promising fishing spots on the Tura are considered (meaning the distance from the Sverdlovsk region to the confluence of the Tura and Tobol): Salairskoye village, Tyumen region; the mouths of the rivers Pyshma and Mezhnitsa; right exits from the highway to the village of Usalka; Sokhnovo; Pokrovskoe; and also on the oxbow of Tura, village. Sazonovo and the coastal section of the river from the village of Chikcha to Oshkukov.

In good weather, if it lasts 3-5 days, the fish will bite very actively. Local fishermen advise feeding fish such as bream: you can make “food” for the fish yourself, but if you don’t have the time or desire, store-bought food will do. The bait can be worms, but not dung worms, but rather earthworms. In Tyumen they are red, and this fact plays a decisive role in catching bream.

The gear can consist of a simple spinning rod, hooks, two leashes, a feeder, a spinning reel and an anti-twist. On the Tour, catching bream with feeder gear is always a win-win option. If only the weather permits, since changes in water and bad weather harm fishing.

In winter, pike are caught on the Tour using a girder, using fry as live bait. Unfortunately, in November the activity of the predator is quite weak, but some lucky ones pull out 5 - 10 kg during fishing. The largest specimen is 3.5 kg.

The best option on the Tura River would be fishing for bream. This fish can be caught using feeder gear using inexpensive bait. You can hang a couple of maggots on a hook. Maggot can be replaced with a worm if necessary. Or - maggot plus worm. In the same way you can catch even heavy crucian carp, as well as ide.

If you look deeper into history, Ermak began to conquer the Siberian Khanate from the Tura River. As it is written in the “chronicles”, the rivers of Siberia themselves carried the Cossacks, and having passed down the Tagil River, Ermak’s fleet ended up on the calmer Tura River. Then an armed detachment of Cossacks ends up on the Tobol River. The flotilla covered a long distance, and Ermak and his associates were helped in this by a fair wind, oars and sails.

The Cossacks found themselves behind the Ural Mountains and quickly became convinced that Siberia was a very rich and abundant country, and that the local residents were not hostile. The villages were located along the banks of the river at a great distance, and the places were abandoned, remote and impassable. The people living here looked at the Cossacks with genuine curiosity. These were the Khanty-Mansi people.

The Old Believers were the first to settle here after the conquest of Siberia by Ermak in the 17th century. The village was called Bolshaya Nominaya. Until this time, this place was a Mansi Paul.
