Fishing in Konakovo

On the channel

The warm canal, located in the Konakovsky district, has a width of about 50 m and a depth of up to 2.5 m. Since the canal flows from the state district power station, the water in it never freezes, so you can fish on it with summer gear all year round. On the channel itself you can catch:

• roach;
• perch;
• crucian carp;
• pike;
• channel catfish;
• chub.

In Soviet times, sturgeon, silver carp and grass carp were regularly released into the canal, but today these fish are practically gone. Fishing in this reservoir is complicated by the presence of a fairly strong current. The bottom of the channel is overgrown with a large amount of aquatic vegetation, so the angler has to constantly monitor the degree of immersion of bait or artificial bait. The banks of the reservoir are quite steep, so it is not possible to approach the water everywhere.

Small roach can be caught on the canal with varying success throughout the year. To catch it, feeder gear is usually used. For fishing to be effective, the feeder should be thrown to the border of the current and calm water. The main bait for roach is bloodworm.

The perch in this reservoir is also not large in size. The maximum size of the "minke" is limited to 200 grams. Small perch are often caught when fishing for roach on a feeder or when fishing for chub using a spinning rod.

On a note! Crucian carp on the canal is of greater interest to the fisherman than roach and perch, since its size can reach 400 grams.

Crucian carp stands far from the main current in coastal pools. Since the water in the canal is quite clean, a school of crucian carp can be seen visually. To catch this fish in coastal pools you will need a very light float tackle consisting of the following elements:

• rods 3–4 m long with blind rigging;
• monofilament line with a diameter of 0.12 mm;
• float with a load capacity of 1 g;
• hook number 12.

The crucian carp in this reservoir reacts very poorly to any bait mixtures, so feeding it is not recommended. The best bait for catching it at any time of the year is maggot. It is interesting to note that in summer the crucian bite on the canal is usually worse than in winter.

The warm waters of the Konakovsky Canal make it possible not to part with summer gear even in winter. There is very little pike on the canal, since it occupies local points on the reservoir and is caught very quickly by spinning anglers. A predator weighing up to a kilogram can be caught in a few mini-pools using wobblers or unloaded rubber.

Channel catfish weighing up to 3 kg are occasionally caught by feeders. This predator prefers to stick to the middle of the channel and is more willing to peck at a bunch of dung worms. The majority of fishermen come to the canal in the hope of catching a chub. There are a lot of small chubs in the reservoir, and they readily bite on a variety of baits attached to the hook of a float rod. Chub weighing 300–400 g. begins to appear in April, when the first frogs appear on the banks. In the spring, this predator is caught quite well using frogs. To catch larger fish, the bait should be positioned as close to the canal bed as possible.

More interesting fishing spots are located where the canal merges into Mashkovsky Bay. In the drainage area you can see a crowd of fishermen all year round. Fish from all over the bay come here to feed on the food that the canal waters carry with them.

In addition, many fish breeds feel more comfortable in warm water. A predator approaches the drain after the peaceful fish. At the point where the canal flows into Mashkovsky Bay, you can always count on catching a small pike perch.

Fishing spots on the Volga

The Volga River flows through the territory of the Konakovsky district, on which there are many attractive places for fisherman. On the banks of the Volga you can not only sit with a fishing rod, but also relax for several days with a tent. Fishing on the Volga in Konakovo is more productive in June–July.

Excellent fishing spots are located at the confluence of the Volga and the Shosha River. Since the entire shore adjacent to the mouth has been occupied by a fishing base, this area can only be reached by boat. The complex bottom topography of the mouth area attracts both predatory and peaceful fish. Depths in this place range from 5 to 12 m.

Good places for fishing holidays are located in the Bezborodovo-Melkovo area. Here you can relax with tents and catch a wide variety of fish. Medium and large bream are caught well from the shore on the feeder.

The float rod catches roach and silver bream. If you have a boat, it won’t be difficult to find a school of perch or pike perch.

The section of the river near the Bezborodovsky Bridge is also a favorite place for many fishermen. There are quite significant depths under the bridge itself, which allows you to fish with a float rod from the shore. On a note! Not far from the Bezborodovsky Bridge there is an area where fishing competitions are regularly held. In this place you can count on catching large roach and bream.

The Volga in the Igumenka area is often visited by fans of spinning fishing. In this area you can fish with a spinning rod not only from a boat, but also from the shore. The proximity of the channel edge makes it possible to catch good fish without using a watercraft. This place is distinguished by gently sloping banks and good access roads.

The place where the Soz River flows into the Volga deserves special attention from fishermen. From the bottom of the Soz River there are many cold springs, so the water in it is several degrees lower than in the Volga. In the summer heat, when the water temperature rises above 23 degrees, you can always count on a good predator bite in this area.

Finally managed to go fishing. Again we decided to go near Konakovo, but only to the other side of the Volga. An acquaintance told me how he gets there (he mostly fishes there, because there are much fewer vacationers there). And so my son and I got to the ferry.

While I was walking along the shore in search of a place (and this shore is flat and there is a lot of vegetation along the banks and is swampy in some places), I had to cut along the edge of the forest. Wherever there was a birch forest, there were also boletuses. There are a lot of them. It’s as if no one collects them there at all. I only took pictures of them and didn’t take them. That’s not what I came for and there’s nothing to bring with me. We need to find a place for fishing.

Shall we go?

Plans to visit Konakovo and take part in the Open Fest Fishing in Volga Feeder + Spinning festival, organized by the Fishing on the Volga club, began to mature from the very first day, as soon as it became known that such a festival was planned.

A very non-trivial competition format - a team of two people, a feeder plus a spinner, and non-standard formats are always interesting. In addition, the festival is charitable, more on that in a moment.

True, we have the Seventh Roll in our club, the core consists of spinning players, and it was not possible to field at least one team, but in the spinning personal, in the end, three of our “tubers” decided to take part - Sanya (@Brutaloff), Nikita and Seryoga.
