Spectators appreciate MMA for its spectacular fights. Therefore, competing fighters try to fight not only effectively, but also beautifully - because this way there is a higher chance of getting a contract with a large organization and increasing their fee.
A good example of a spectacular technique is the pinwheel. This is what will be discussed in this article.
Execution options
In common parlance, “spinner” is often used to refer to all strikes performed with the body turning.
For example, these:
- A blow not to the head, but to the thigh or lower leg;
- Back kick (stretching a kick not from a roundhouse, but by straightening the leg). They hit him not only in the head, but also in the body: solar plexus, liver;
- Tornado kick (strike with the supporting leg rather than with the swing leg);
- Backfist (roundhouse punch);
- Jumping spinner.
Options for making a turntable
A DIY paper pinwheel for children has various options. They can be light, single-color, complex, round, split, round, multi-lobed.
The figure shows different options. The first option consists of thick origami paper. The drawing is double-sided. Manufacturing took place according to the template of a four-bladed turntable. They are made separately, then attached to one stick. It turns out to be a complex craft.
Picture two shows the eight-bladed version. It is obtained after connecting two template squares. Photo three shows a round pinwheel, one of its variants. It can be made in the form of eight blades. Or from a paper circle with cuts in the middle.
The lighter the sheets for crafts, the better it is to twist the product in the wind. The lightest option is the four-blade one.
Is this blow effective: pros and cons
Advantages of the turntable:
- Surprise;
- Power: when hit in the head, the blow can knock out or drop (if it hits the body) the enemy;
- Entertainment.
Minuses:
- Difficulty in implementation and waste of time to practice;
- Low accuracy: you hit at random, aiming just at the level of your opponent's head;
- During the technique, you turn your back to your opponent, and will be vulnerable to a counterattack if he is fast enough.
To summarize: the effectiveness of the technique is questionable, primarily due to its inaccuracy and danger for the one who strikes.
Is it worth training him?
If you fight in tournaments, are or want to become a professional fighter (receiving money for fights), it’s worth it. The turntable looks spectacular, and promoters and the public primarily value entertainment. Therefore, a professional fighter must be able to fight beautifully.
If you do MMA for yourself, you don’t really need a spinner. You are unlikely to use it on the street (conditions do not always allow it), and in sparring, too, because the blow is too powerful for a training fight. You can only practice it for yourself in order to show off a beautiful reception to your friends.
Where to start preparing: preliminary exercises
Since the spinner is a complex technique, it is recommended to train it in parts.
Lead-in exercises:
- Stretching. To do this: pull the transverse and longitudinal twine, stretch the hamstrings, and swing your legs in front of you with a straight leg and in circles (the higher the swing and the wider the amplitude, the better);
- Quickly turn around on one leg. When performing, try to turn your head back to the opponent before your body turns. In addition to speed, a quick turn also needs to be trained for the development of the vestibular apparatus (to avoid dizziness and disorientation after a turn). To develop speed, train the movement by picking up a weight (pancake, bag, dumbbell);
- Stand on 1 leg with the body tilted sideways backward. Train the angle of inclination of the body at different angles - from small to parallel to the floor.
Preparation
We've all seen pinwheels that are sold at children's parties. They are a flower with blades, which is attached to a stick. When the wind blows, these petals begin to rotate, bringing pleasure to the kids. You can easily make such a pinwheel yourself from ordinary colored paper.
After you learn how to make a simple pinwheel, you can complicate your task and make origami with more petals.
To make a pinwheel you will need:
- square sheet of colored paper;
- scissors;
- a small nail and two beads (you can also use a safety pin or pushpin);
- wooden stick (pencil, twig, cocktail straw).
Correct strike technique
Let's look at the most common option: when the blow comes from the heel or foot to the head.
The technique is like this:
- We go to the middle distance if we were standing closer or further;
- We shift the weight to the supporting leg. It can be used to take a diagonal step forward. If you are right-handed, the substep is performed forward and to the right;
- We perform a sharp turn with the body. We hold our hands either at the head or slightly apart for balance. The supporting leg is slightly bent, the striking leg is torn off the ground, but at the beginning of the turn it does not rise yet: it is easier to balance, and the blow will be stronger, and the enemy will later understand what you are doing;
- When the body is with its back to the opponent and begins to turn in his direction, we begin to head towards him and raise the striking leg, first bent at the knee;
- We complete the turn and sharply straighten the striking leg;
- After a hit (or miss), we bend the knee and lower the leg as quickly as possible, and return to the stance. If the blow does not go through, and you do not have time to see the enemy’s action, you can break the distance, because an experienced opponent can counterattack before you have restored your balance after the blow and have not had time to evaluate its result.
How to make a paper pinwheel:
-You can measure a square measuring approximately 19 x 19 cm with a ruler and pencil and cut it out. Or bend the sheet at one corner to the opposite edge, cut off the excess rectangle so that a folded triangle remains. Open it up and get an even square.
-Now, either using a ruler, we draw diagonals with a pencil, mark the center of the square and where the cuts end (about 2/3 of the corner). Or we bend the sheet diagonally, at the bend points we will get lines for cuts, and their intersection is the center.
-We make a cut along each diagonal line (bend) leaving 3 cm closer to the center untouched.
-Fold each upper left corner as shown in the photo and glue it to the center of the top.
-We stick a pushpin into the middle of the pinwheel.
-Attach the button to the wooden rod. If you are using wooden skewers (skewers), be sure to cut off the pointed end. To prevent the wood from splitting when you stick the button into it, first moisten the handle of the stick with water.
-If the button is difficult to penetrate into the wood, lightly hit the button head with a hammer, be careful, the button head may crack from the impact. Make sure that the button is firmly inserted into the handle, while the blades of the turntable should rotate freely on it, so you do not need to stick the button too deeply. If the point of the button has gone through the wood, bend it down by gently hitting it a few times with a hammer, or poke a small piece of eraser onto it.
That's all, our turntable is ready! All that remains is to catch the wind and enjoy its rotation.
