River Don
The Don is the oldest river in the European part of Russia. Its age is several thousand years, and it was named by the ancient Sarmatians and Scythians. Along its 1,870 km journey, the river changes direction four times due to geological obstacles. It is called “quiet” because of its calm flow, because it is a flat river.
The source of the Don is located not in the Rostov region, but in the Tula region near the city of Novomoskovsk. This is the Urvanka stream. The main river is home to at least 90 species of fish. But amateurs are usually attracted by bream, ram, pike, pike perch, and river carp.
In the lower part, herring and goby swim from the sea. They go to the first ice with the dream of catching pike perch and Don humpback salmon, and if they are lucky, finding a wintering hole with gobies. In winter, predatory fish - pike and perch - actively bite, and in the warm season, many fishermen switch to peaceful fish.
Fishing on the Don in the Rostov region begins right in the regional center on the embankment. Armed with a Bologna fishing rod, they catch ram and small fish, bream goes to the bottom, and with a spinning rod they watch for perch and pike perch. Landing net without a handle, as the height of the parapet is large. There is a long rope tied to it.
It’s good to fish near the Kumzhenskaya grove, near the shallows. From the shore they use a donk (feeder) and pull out the ram and the bream. They often stay there overnight in the hope of a good trophy.
Another cool place is the Rogozhkino farm, in the river delta, just 40 km from the regional center. Neither professional nor amateur will be left without a catch there. The only condition is that you must be sure that you have not settled in the protected area that is located there.
The next beautiful place is near the village of Starocherkasskaya, also not far from Rostov. Getting there is not difficult, you just need to leave early to get a better position. There are a lot of vacationers in those parts, especially in the summer. They catch it with a float rod and a donk. In 1977, a 7-meter beluga weighing 1,400 kg was caught in the Don; it became the largest Don fish caught.

Manych
Fishing on the rivers of the Rostov region continues here. Recently, Manych has become increasingly popular among fishermen. And this is not surprising - beautiful landscapes, mild climate and abundance of fish attract guests here. The river is not wide, winding, calm and clean almost everywhere.
The presence of crayfish indicates the latter fact. Fishing on Manych in the Rostov region is good at any time of the year. In spring and summer people come there for pike perch, burbot, ide and bream. In autumn they catch perch, rudd, ram, carp, and roach. And in winter they hunt for pike, catfish and crucian carp.
Sal
In those parts there is virgin nature, very few people, quiet, calm, a lot of vegetation, and this is an excellent food supply. Catfish lovers flock there, because they reach large sizes, just like asps. Chub, ide and carp are also caught in the river.
Dead Donets
An intriguing name for a fishing spot. However, do not be afraid, this is just a tributary of the Don, and it was named in memory of the events of the 5th century. At that time, the ancient Greek settlement of Tanais was located on the arm, which was subject to raids by nomads.
And one day the settlement was completely ravaged and destroyed, and after that the river received a gloomy name. However, the region there is rich in fish, even beginners are biting. From spring until the end of May, until the water begins to bloom, this is the most active time for crucian carp, bleak, perch, small fish and ram. They are caught using a simple fishing rod with a float and a donk.

Aksai River
Without exaggeration, we can say that these places are very popular. This rating can be explained by the large amount of fish, convenient access and close proximity to populated areas. Aksayka, as it is popularly called, departs from the Don at the village of Melikhovskaya, and then, after making a detour, again flows into the bed of the mighty river.
The main tributaries on the right are the Kerchik and Tuzlov, and on the left – the Erik Karaich. And all these water streams are rich in fish. They catch asp and catfish, perch and pike perch, pike and chub there. And also roach, carp, bream and many others. There is also a treasured place called the Aksai slabs. Fishermen sacredly guard its location.
But, judging by the forums, it is located just below the Glass Factory. There the river runs through a fairly long stretch of straight channel, and slabs are dumped into the water, near which intense fishing is observed. You just need to have time to take a position. The depth starts right from the shore, so no one will leave without a trophy. And a few words about the spawning ban: from April 1 to May 31, fishing is prohibited on the Aksai and all its tributaries.
Underground River
A tributary of the Manych flows in the Bagaevsky district. Near the village of Karlovka there is one lake, and near the village of Fedulov there is an even larger one, with the name Podgornoye. Azhinov has the widest place. At times it becomes muddy with mud, but there are a lot of fish in it. In addition to crucian carp, bream, perch, pike, you can catch bitterling and catfish.
Taganrog Bay
The Sea of Azov is the shallowest in the world, its maximum depth is about 13.5 m. Moreover, it is the most continental sea on the planet (it is located farthest from the World Ocean). The region's best sea fishing awaits here. And of course, you can’t do without visiting Taganrog Bay.
In general, Taganrog has a unique history. It was built in 1698 by order of Peter 1. The city was the very first base of the Navy of the Russian State, as well as our first port on the open sea. The king wanted to make it his capital. But after the unsuccessful Azov campaign, he rushed north and “opened a window to Europe” by building St. Petersburg.
Taganrog residents fish in the area of the Beglitskaya Spit, on Sambechka, in Andreeva Bay. They bite perch, goby, mullet, and hybrids. They plant everything - from porridge and bread to worms and meat. And if you take the polychaete worm Nereis or a shrimp, you will pull out the pelengas.

Veselovskoye Reservoir
Formed in 1941 on the Manych River. The coastline is indented and dotted with bays. About 500 km long. There are several islands in the reservoir, and not on the shore there are villages, farmsteads and the city of Proletarsk. And all the local fishermen are happy to spend time having a pleasant holiday.
However, fishing on the Veselovsky reservoir in the Rostov region won the hearts of visiting amateurs. This is understandable, because the aquatic world there is represented by 40 species of fish. Bream, silver bream, pike perch and ram are of commercial importance.
Tsimlyansk Reservoir
Formed on the Don in 1952. Mostly located in the Volgograd region, Rostov region got 33%. But this was enough to spend time there with a fishing rod. After all, its dimensions are considerable - about 180 km in length and 38 km in width.
The average depth is about 9 m, but the bottom is uneven, pitted, and in some places reaches 30 m. It is often called the Tsimlyansk Sea. Thanks to such volumes and the complex bottom topography, the fish feel at ease there and grow to large sizes. You will need a boat and an echo sounder to determine the depth and presence of fish.
They take silver carp for the quaker, and small fish, crucian carp and ram for float gear. There is also a popular dushman there, who is considered a hybrid. However, most likely this is a Far Eastern crucian carp. And they called him “dushman” because he “strangled out” (suppressed) some species of fish, including golden crucian carp.

Warm channel
Very popular among the local population, especially in winter. It was not called that for nothing - the canal’s task is to divert heated water from the Novocherkassk State District Power Plant. You can see people with fishing rods there all year round. The canal is home to all the fish that live in the river. But there is a twist - only Canadian catfish, the owner of tender meat, is found there.
The channel is not subject to the spawning ban, but the nearby Aksai, Tuzlov and Dead Aksai channels are already under surveillance. Therefore, carefully evaluate your position so that you do not get caught by the Fishing Supervision Authority for illegal fishing. The Red Book shemaya is especially “insidious” in this sense - she cleverly hides among her fellows, can swallow a hook, and it is forbidden to even approach her.

Fishing in the Rostov region in summer has its own peculiarity. As the sun rises, the activity of burbot and roach increases. They are taken from the shore or from a boat, using any permitted gear. Maggot with a worm, corn, semolina, bloodworms, and pearl barley are quite suitable for bait.
Fishing in the Rostov region in winter is characterized by the following: the fish are located right at the surface of the ice, a particularly good time for the process is the frosty morning of early December. They are caught with winter fishing rods, jigs and spinners. Animal food is good for bait - maggots, worms, pieces of meat or liver, fish fry.
